They do need changing out once they get covered in gnats to optimise the amount of sticky surface area to catch them. Given the breeding rate of the gnats and how bad the infestation is, depends on how many pads you will need in total.

Picked up the Aonova 60-pack yellow sticky traps for fruit flies and fungus gnats, and they work surprisingly well. The bright yellow attracts the little pests, and the sticky surface catches loads of them. Easy to hang or stick near indoor plants. Only minor gripe is you need to replace them fairly often if you’ve got a lot of flies, but that’s normal. Otherwise, simple, effective, and a cheap way to keep indoor plants pest-free.
