Before Gastro and Low Fodmap diet, the only way i could control my IBS so i could attend any important social event, ie weddings, funerals, graduations family holiday events, was to take heavy pain medication which in essence put my stomach to sleep. Recovery from this strong pain med the next few days was brutal. When the pain came back, it was harsh. Pretty much bedridden for at least 3 days while my tummy woke up and tried to find a balance. I would never recommend this approach. I stopped doing it as I realized, first of all the med could be addictive; and secondly, it just was too harsh a recovery for my body. I was to the point, every social event rsvp was preceded by explanation of “cannot guarantee attendance”. Many events, i would call and explain my health concerns; and because of the costs to the host/hostess, i would decline. But not the case any more, i happily RSVP yes; and no pain meds at all. I thank GASTRO for this change in my life. I can do low FODMAP diet; but without Gastro, it is not effective on diet alone. It takes both. My hope for you is it will be as effective for you as it has been for me.
