I have several Flexcut carving knives and this is the best so far for my carving projects. The 1 5/8 inch is an excellent all-round knife that will do general carving and also perform detail work when you need it. The flat plane design will let you get into places that other knives have difficulty in reaching. The design also makes stropping much easier and thus easier to keep your knife razor sharp. Price point is well worth it.

Very good carving knife. I own every Flexcut knife and gouge made. Recently added all the professional series knives. These are easy to sharpen, holds an edge very well and are very comfortable to grip for hours of carving.

I kept this knife because I love the blade. Very sharp, and the full flat grind moves nicely through the wood and is very easy to strop. The cherry wood handle, on the other hand, was quite rough with some deep imperfections you would not expect to have to deal with in this price range. I had to sand the handle quite a bit to remove most of the tear-out and to soften the edges. I also sealed the wood to prevent stains. Like blood because it's so sharp! I like the old ash "wale tail" handles, but these big cherry handles will be easy to get used to, or to reshape as you like. Since mine required sanding anyway, the new flat-ground blades are fantastic. Comparing the overall carving experience to my old Flexcut knives, there is less of a difference than I expected. Those standard Flexcut knives are quite good, cheaper, and there is a much bigger variety of them. The pro series do have nicer blades, and compared to custom makers, the price is good. Maybe instead of Band-Aids they should include a piece of sandpaper with them? A little better quality control and this will be a real winner.

Great tool

Love this new Flexcut Pro. Can’t believe how incredibly sharp the blade is. Cuts through basswood like butter. I’ve got other Flexcut and OCC knives but the Flexcut Pro blade seems to be the best of all. The flat grind is perfect and the cherry wood handle feels great in my hand. I highly recommend getting this knife.
