However if your worktop is already shiney, eg covered in Formica, like any varnish over time it could chip so you will need to significantly abrade the surface (eg 60grit sandpaper) beforehand. This has a v slight amber colour. Make sure no dust gets on it until it’s dry (12hrs). Best is two coats with 150grit sanding between coats. I use a lot of this. Transfer remaining varnish to smaller container as once opened it will get a thick wasteful skin. **Q: Is this water or solvent based? I’ve looked on Ronseals website and it doesn’t say** A: Water based **Q: Can I apply it with a roller?** A: I've used Ronseal varnish for years, but never considered using a roller. High gloss finish *by A***R on 18 December 2018* After being dissapointed with alot of waterbased clear varnishes, I gave this a try. I was after a high gloss glassy finish. Window board was sanded to 240 grit and had 3 coats of a waterbase ronseal medium oak finish in gloss however the varnish was drying to a satin finish.
