Very pleased with this skillet
Pros1. I've owned this skillet for nearly 5 years now! I've used it daily for cooking bacon, eggs, French toast, lasagna, stake, pretty much anything a frying pan can cook and more.2. The non-stick surface shows no signs of wear. See how to clean and not to clean it below.3. It's as large as a flat skillet but has the extra benefit of raised edges for containing splatter from cooking food.4. It's large and doesn't take up any of my stovetop because it has its own heat source.5. It has a built-in electric heating element that will not overheat the non-stick surface. Non-stick cannot exceed 500 degrees or it will burn and peel off.6. It cooks pretty evenly from the bottom. Not as even as a convection or gas stove and skillet, but evenly enough to get good results.Cons1. It can be used to cook casseroles but will require frequent stirring because the sides and top are not heated.2. It is difficult to clean the legs and power adapter. There are lots of edges, groves and hollow spaces to navigate when cleaning the legs.3. The power cord is short and the skillet draws 15 amps of power! You'll need to pay a lot to buy a 20 amp extension cord. Good luck finding one that is not neon orange and under 10 ft long.Cleaning and Caring1. People have a difficult time understanding how to clean and care for non-stick pans. You absolutely cannot use metal scrapers, scrubbers, spatulas, or utensils. You cannot use paper towels or any wood/paper products. You cannot use plastic scrub brushes. You cannot use microfiber or plastic wash cloths. You cannot use the scrubber on the back of sponges. You cannot use a plastic sponge. Cleaning with wood, plastic, and metal will scratch your non-stick. Cleaning with chemicals like household cleaners, wipes, and solvents will ruin your skillet. Use liquid dish soap and water. Do not use put your skillet in the dishwasher because the detergent will ruin it.2. You can use silicone cooking utensils, spatulas, and whisks. Pretty much anything with soft silicone should work as long as you avoid scraping or applying any force against the non-stick. You can use plastic cooking utensils if you are extremely careful, but I wouldn't recommend it.3. To clean non-stick, you must use a soft sponge or cotton rag/washcloth and regular dish soap. Do not scrap or scrub with anything. To get stuff that has burned or stuck on the non-stick, just simply poor a little hot water into the skillet and let it soak for a few minutes. Then gently rub to sponge or rag along the non-stick surface until the stuck-on particles are cleaned off without applying any force.

A big pan that saves space and works great
The 16" size of this Presto skillet actually ended up saving room in my kitchen because it replaced both an electric griddle and an old 12" electric skillet. This pan can be used for all kinds of cooking: griddling, frying, grilling, braising, roasting, even baking. The sides are high enough to use it as a chicken fryer or for stirfry. I can check how bacon is frying through the glass lid, minimizing spatter, if any. The temperature control is accurate and the pan heats up quickly, unlike my electric stovetop. In fact, you can get a perfect simmer by turning the knob down just till the light goes out. Also nothing sticks to it. The only two things you have to remember are: 1)spray it with Pam or some other cooking spray the first time you use it (just the first time), and 2)to maintain the nonstick coating, never soak it in water for extended periods (you won't need to soak it, it cleans up fast and easy). I really like this skillet and recommend it highly. I bought it in February and have used it regularly ever since.NOTE: It is now May 2008 and I still use this electric skillet at least once or twice a week. It has held up beautifully and still looks new. I have to tighten the leg screws now and then but I'm not complaining. I would give this pan six stars if I could.NOTE: It is now October 2008 and we still use this skillet a couple of times per week at least. It takes about 3 minutes to clean after it cools. I can cook just about anything in it. I like its temperature accuracy and the quick control I have over the heat. I use it all the time.NOTE: It's now February 2009, and two years since I bought this skillet. I still use it at least once a week and it is holding up just fine. Other than tightening the leg/handle screws now and then, it works as well as the day I received it.NOTE: It's now January 2010 and the skillet is still going strong. No problems with it at all. We use it every weekend for egg & pancake breakfasts with all the trimmings.

Larger, George foreman equal
Unit came with no issues. It cooks very well and evenly. Simple to install legs with screws attached underneath. Very easy to clean, durable and a great size, equal to our George foreman grill/skillet. We love the larger size and price was good. Well worth the money. It s very light weight, glass is heavier but durable.

Best Electric Skillet I found
I have found, many times, that you do pay for quality. My preference, when I buy things is to buy the best (or the best I can afford). With this electric skillet, however, I have found that the lower price tag did not reflect lower quality. In fact, this is much better than higher end models I have tried. This skillet has even heating, things don't pool in the center or along the edge. It cleans with ease and is the perfect size when cooking 4 or more portions. It is also great with pancakes because you can cook more at one time than in a traditional skillet. For making gravies this is the perfect skillet--warming to perfection and evenly. If you love electric skillets, i don't think you can go wrong with this.If you haven't tried electric skillets and are wondering if they would be right for you, I would encourage you to try it. Having something that heats EVENLY all over is awesome, especially in larger sizes than you can put on your stove. It also frees up burners. This is also a great gift. I got one for my mother and she uses it all the time. This skillet is better than models that sell for over $200 when it comes to heating and distributing food evenly (2 HUGE requirements for an electric skillet). I think I have had my over two years and my mom has had hers over a year. During that time neither of us has experienced wear and tear or lower functioning. We do not use metal utensils.

Very large; great for fried chicken and breakfasts
I had wanted an electric skillet for a long time but none were big enough. Then I saw this 16" skillet and knew I had to have it. It not only has a large cooking surface but the skillet is deep, making it a perfect chicken fryer. So - I cooked fried chicken. The thermostat seems to be accurate. The heat is pretty darn consistent across the pan. There are a couple small cooler spots but I just moved the chicken around a little and it worked fine.I also made breakfast in the skillet - fried bacon and eggs, and then used as a griddle for pancakes. It worked perfectly.Things I don't like:1. I HATE glass lids. They are heavy. This one isn't vented - a big negative in my eyes.2. The legs need to have the screws tightened before each use. This is a dangerous negative. Not a good thing if you are frying something and a leg to your skillet falls off - immediate call to a Burn Unit. But I like the pan enough to make it work. I made myself a note and store it inside the skillet, reminding myself to tighten the legs before using. The bottom of the legs could have used some rubber grippers. The skillet slides on a slick countertop. I solved this by placing the skillet on a damp dishtowel before starting to cook - no sliding.3. I am glad this is a big pan but it is really a BIG pan. It fits in my dishwasher but barely (and my dishwasher is large capacity).4. If you don't have a lot of storage space, this skillet will take some maneuvering to store. I happen to be tall and have a pantry cupboard it fits perfectly on top of - no problem for me.All in all, this has been a great buy for me to date. I have seen other reviews complaining about the non-stick coating coming off. So far, my skillet has been fine. But I've only had it a couple of months. I'll update this review as needed.

Has become an Old Reliable in our home!
I purchased this to help when our stove was broken. My mother had used an electric skillet often for my family so I thought it would be worth a try even though I had a small one I hadn't used often. This version is great!Pros:The non-stick finish is very helpful and items have cooked up easily. In my two years of use I have accumulated markings over the heating elements but that doesn't interfere with use. It is large enough to cook a real meal, or to have two different items sauteing at the same time (onions and peppers). You can also make 6 medium sized pancakes or 4 large sliced bread grilled cheese at once. It is a breeze to hand wash. After washing I just leave it upside down on the edge of the sink and it dries quickly so it can be put away. I did try and make pasta once but couldn't get the water to more than a simmer so I can't recommend it for more than normal "low to medium" cooking!Cons:It IS large so if you don't have an easy storage place it may become a problem. I have a shelf in my pantry where it is easily seen so is easy to think of using and then return to it's place after use. If you have this buried you won't use it which would be a real shame.Summary:A very useful kitchen appliance even if cooking just for 2 people, but especially for a family. Easy to use and very easy to clean. The legs get loose over time and have to be tightened with a screwdriver; a minor inconvenience. Great gift which will be sure to have lots of happy use.

Great Pan for cooking, Dishwasher Safe, High sides and quality non-stick!!!!
I ordered this after receiving an order of a different one that I thought I like better...I returned that one and ordered this one. I like this one MUCH better!!! The pan itself is much sturdier with a deeper sides. The lid fits much better and it also has a steam vent on it while the other one didn't. The plate is not removable but that doesn't really matter as you can still take it to the table for a serving dish. Thermostat heating works wonderful and the non-stick coating is quality extra. The best thin about the whole thing is that the pan is dishwasher safe!!! Best thing ever!!!!

Great size, easy use and clean
Just love it The size is amazing and I love the non-stick surface. I'll get a lot of use out of this skillet, especially during holiday prep where I can use another cooking space.

Excelente la volvería a comprar
Ya llevo dos años con ella y sigue funcionando perfectamente y aun mantiene su teflon

It is large enough to cook a complete breakfast for two and it heats evenly.
I like the electric skillet because I can cook large quantities at one time. ie: cooking peppers & onions or string beans with onions & tomatoes. You can cook a large quantaty of the vegies and freeze zip locks. The only thing I did not like is that it is slippery on the counter. I cut up 4 squares of "no slip" & place them under each leg to hold the skillet from sliding around.
