Thompson in the distinctive "Tanto" style, the Tai Pan embodies all the best features of a classic dagger while minimizing its shortcomings. Most daggers are notorious for having thin, fragile points that are easily broken. In contrast, the Tai Pan features a sturdy spear point which is wide and thick enough to resist breaking without compromising its ability to offer deep, effortless, penetration. The blade is made from superior VG-10 San Mai steel that provides superior edge-holding ability while still being able to withstand impact and lateral stresses. To keep the user's fingers from sliding forward onto their keen edge, the Tai Pan comes with a solid steel double quillon guard. The handle is made of deeply checkered Kray-Ex. I wuz worried at first 'cuz the price was so right for me, I thought I was taking a chance on getting stuck -- pun intended. But yeah, this is the real thing. It ain't a super steel, but I don't care 'bout that kinda thing. The VG-10 San Mai is good enough for anything I'm gonna do with this blade. Not that there's anything wrong with CPM 3V, but c'mon, the price is crazy and if you're honest about it, you won't know the difference. This is a fighter, not an all around hunting utility survival blade. IMHO, of course. And yeah, it's from Taiwan, but frankly, I've compared it to my Seiki City, Japan blades and it looks good. I've several vintage (to you ... I bought'em new back in the day lol) Cold Steel tanto and Bowie knives make in Seiki City and except for "Taiwan" on the blade you couldn't tell the difference. Everything is symmetrical, fit and finish is first rate and the Kraton (rubber) handle is rock solid. What. A. Deal. If I have a complaint (or quibbling, as it were) it's the edge wasn't as sharp as it could be or as sharp as most of the CS blades I've purchased since the late 1980s. No worries, a bit of polishing on some 1500 grit sandpaper and some stropping on leather and it's scary scary sharp, not just scary sharp. If you're in the market for this kind of blade -- and to be honest, you should be! lol -- BUY. THIS. KNIFE. As Stan Lee used to say, 'Nuff said! ;)

**Q: how long is the blade and is it a full tang knife?**
A: The total blade length is 7 3/8th inches. The total cutting length is 7 inches. And yes it is full tang. The ONLY way to get 7 1/2 blade length is to measure below the guard which makes no sense, otherwise 7 3/8ths. This is an OUTSTANDING knife and one of my favorites. However. This is NOT a backpacking survival knife, or a wood working knife, or even a kitchen knife although it really cuts meat. The sheath is set up for any carry, belt, gear, what have you and well designed and made. Blade is amazing as are the handle and butt cap. Typical great Cold Steel quality for this style. This is a self defense, carry (depending on the laws in your State or country), or collectors knife. As it is a hollow grind being foolish with its use will make you make a sad face. Again I cannot say how much I like this knife, fit, finish, balance, feel, edge, steel used, grip quality, all outstanding. I hope this helps.

**Q: Where is it made?**
A: Made in Taiwan will be good quality. Made in China will be inferior steel.  I had to look through very many Seal Pup knives before finding one made in Taiwan.......there is a difference.

**Q: What type of steel does it have?**
A: To the person that said this cheaply made….you’re wrong. They have great knives and use good materials. You’re getting your facts mixed up on where junk is made.  Cold steel has a good reputation in the knife collecting community

**Q: I ordered my knife from abcd sales is it going to be authentic?**
A: It should be, if not Amazon will refund your money on return. They won’t tolerate Cold Steel fakes being sold. I have the same knife and got it on Amazon for $128.00 a smoking deal and authentic too.
