New Balance Men's 410 V5 Cushioning Trail Running Shoe

I took a chance on these based on the Amazon reviews. I never bought a pair of running shoes online before because the fit of running shoes is usually highly variable and I have to try on a half-dozen pair in the store before I find one I like. I usually take a size 10.5 M but I've found that running shoes are almost always sized too small. I've owned some Nike shoes in size 12.0 to get a correct fit! I ordered these in size 11.0 just to be sure, because I like a touch of extra room in the toes, I hate it when my toes touch the front of the shoes and these have a slightly pointed toe box. I figured I would take advantage of the free exchange if they didn't fit. I was surprised to find that not only do these fit me perfectly -- just a touch of extra room in the toes -- but they're also the most comfortable and nicely padded (on the soles) running shoes I've ever owned. They're very nicely made and they have lots of cushioning, especially under the ball of the foot, where a lot of running shoes have issues. The fit is more or less "neutral", yet the shoes have good support. I had a couple of pair of New Balance 510 in the past that I liked (I'm not sure what the difference is in all the numbers) but these are even better. So, I'm really pleased, they fit just like I wanted and they're really comfortable. In fact, I may order another pair just to have in the closet in case they discontinue these!

They are clearly undersized as has been mentioned quite a few times. You need to order at least 1/2 size larger than your largest shoes even if they are previous New Balance. I normally take 101/2 to occasionally an 11. I received the 11, and they were too small. Returned them for 11 1/2 and the size fits perfectly. The shoe itself has been great, although I cannot comment on durability because I have only worn them several weeks. They are heavier than many NB’s but much more supportive especially if you need pronation support. The shoe combined with an good arch support insert works well. Very comfortable. Very satisfied. Amazon return process was excellent with very pleasant and helpful service managers.

Very comfortable shoe and I was able to get it during a price fluctuation and on the lowest price it's been for months. I'm partial to NB because the brand just fits me well, everyone is different especially when it comes to footwear, but I reallly like this shoe. I don't just go giving anything 5 stars, so 4 stars from me means it's a great product. For this to have gotten 5 stars from me it would have to be constructed a bit sturdier, there is some small give or movement (however/whatever terms you think of your foot moving around inside the shoe). I would recommend this to anyone that has an average size foot in width as it is a great fit for me that way. I have only put about 25-30 miles on these so far so I'll have to let you all know at a year or if anything comes up sooner. Does anyone know what NB's reputation is about standing behind their shoes when (hopefully won't ever happen) something undesired happens, e.g. Delaminates or tear, etc?

Original Review: Cheap. If you're looking for the quality shoe expected from NB, this isn't it. The soles are of a cheap lightweight rubber composite which squeak on floors. The outer layers are mostly a cheap plastic-based material. Overall, with daily use, I don't expect that the shoes will last more than a couple of months. Even the shoe strings are so flimsy that they'll likely break in short order. There are no reinforcement for the eyelets, so those who like a tight shoe will eventually break through the top holes. These shoes seem like something one would find on a hanger in a big box retailer for $19. Hopefully this is more of a 'low end' model problem and not for all NB models now, otherwise it's time to find a new brand to follow. Updated: 03/23/2019 I have to improve my rating from my original review. Many months later now, the shoes have continued to hold up. There is some slight stitching problems at the pivot point where the toes are, but aside from that slight problem, the sole, and all other aspects of the shoe have held up. I'm updating my rating to 4-stars from 1-star to reflect this change in overview. Updated: 01/02/2020 I have to say that I'm overly impressed about these sneakers; updating my rating from 4 to 5 stars. It just goes to show that a first impression isn't always the right impression. Yes, they felt cheaply made and lightweight, but they've held up. I'm now around a year of daily wear and the soles are just starting to wear down, but not yet to the foam bottom. Overall, I'd order these ones again (and will) as they've held up much better than expected.

I like the fit in the wide shoes and they hold up for about 2 years under heavier than normal wear.

Since NIKE cannot help but trip over themselves and give in to ridiculous politics and media pressure, I have decided to look onward for a new shoe brand. I was hesitant to go back to New Balance due to their historically lackluster styling BUT I have noticed a bit of a change going on with their lines. They always offer shoes in the wide sizes so when I saw this particular style in my size I decided to give it a shot! They fit GREAT right out of the box (sz14 4E) and I'm even happy with the styling. This is a great shoe at a great price!!! Added benefit of knowing my money is not going to support Kaepernik and the like.

This is a good quality running shoe, and as a heavy guy (230 pounds) i have used New Balance for a couple of decades. They can take a year of pounding. My only complaint is that the sizing keeps changing. My feet are the same. I started size 15 ten years ago, then went to size 16 about six years ago. This year the 16s don’t fit and I sent it back - now I need a 17. Perhaps different styles fit differently but I think that New Balance needs to standardize their US sizes. The European size (52) is accurate but buy a US size one size too big. Or it will be too short in the toe. But a good shoe, once you get the fit right. Amazon replaced it quickly with no complaint.

I bought these with the hope of a good fit with a wide-enough toe box. I consistently wear a 12 in NB shoes and I have a wide-ish foot, so I ordered a 12 4e (wide width). Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the fit. They felt short (more like an 11 1/2). I also believe the toe box narrows too soon. In other words, the shoe should be wider towards the front (not clown-shoe wide, but wide enough that your toes are not compressed). The shoe feels wide enough at the ball of my foot, but too narrow at the toe. Quality seemed good, although I only wore them around the house. I will be returning these (I actually found a cheaper pair of NB in the same size and width at a chain shoe store, and they fit perfectly... much better than this shoe even though they are supposedly the same size). If you are set on these shoes, I would order at least 1/2 size up. If you have a wide or wide-ish foot (like me), I would not recommend these shoes. For those looking for a better option, I have a recommendation: I find most Merrell shoes with regular width to have a wide-ish toe box and a comfortable fit. I order Merrells 1/2 size longer than my normal shoe size, and I have been happy with the performance and durability (I have several pairs).

Excellent support and comfort. What I expected of New Balance. Glad I stuck with them over the last 20 years.

Nice wide fit and very high quality. I love New Balance shoes. These are perfect for light hiking or off road walking. Great grip.

Bought this because was looking for 4E extra wide fitting after finding model 624 no longer come up to standard of quality (in the leather). This model 410 doesn't feel as wide as the model 624 4E extra wide fit but am hoping the fabric more than the leather upper of the 624. Too soon to tell how good this shoe is.

These are really good quality and lasted my hubby a whole year (usually trashes shoes in a few months). They fit great and the colour went with everything. Definately would buy again.
