## Description

desertcart.com The generous 2-1/2-by-5-inch cutting surface of Microplane’s durable extra course grater provides ample room for rapidly generating grated foods. Appropriate for soft or hard cheeses, create Mozzarella-covered pizza or Parmesan garnish from a single tool. Keeping fingers at a safe distance, hold shaver at an angle and run food in a downward motion over the grating plane. 35 razor-sharp blades, staggered on the arched cutting surface, cut effortlessly and resist clogging for continuous grating. A band of rubber encircling the bottom edge prevents slipping and provides stability. The stainless-steel handle features rounded edges for a comfortable hold, and finishes with a small metal loop to simplify storage. Measuring 13-1/2 by 3 by 1 inches, this tool carries a polished shine and is dishwasher-safe. To protect against dulling, cover cutting surface with accompanying plastic blade guard when not in use. --Amy Arnold Product Description This professional extra coarse grater is perfect for grating cheddar and other semi-hard cheeses and vegetables

Review: Please, Tell me WHY? - Finally! A super sharp grater that shreds cheese perfectly for cheese dip!! In the past, I've resorted to buying bags of pre-shredded cheese in order to get the thicker shredded texture needed for many recipes, sacrificing the quality and creative flavor combinations that are available when you grate your own cheeses. I love course shredded cheese...after all, who puts fluffy cheese on a pizza? So, who get's FIVE STAR excited over a grater? Well, I do. Although I love making things from "scratch", as I get older, I find that many of my kitchen tools are becoming harder and harder to use, and at the moment, I have two (yep, two) broken wrists that required surgery and millions of shiny metal parts to fix. Both wrists are on the mend, but needless to say, both of my hands are very weak and both have very limited movement,, and at my advanced level of maturity, my doctors have told me to expect arthritis in both hands, and not to expect to ever regain full use and strength in either... So...I get really excited whenever I find something that makes my life easier. This thing is so easy for me to use! It is perfectly balanced, the handle is just the right width and it is long enough and the rubberized foot at the end helps to hold the grater still, and at the perfect angle so that it does not slip and slide all over the cutting board like my big, clunky old box grater did. And it's easier to clean, too. Some folks have complained about the sticky label on the back of the Microplane Professional Extra Course Grater (Wow! It took longer for me to type that than it did for me to grab my little bottle of Goo-Gone and clean the sticky residue off of the grater), but I found that peeling it slowly only left tiny goo-dots that wiped off easily with Goo-Gone, another one of those products that no home should be without. Since I have never owned a non-professional, Home Series Microplane grater, I can't compare the two to tell you which one I like better, I can. however, tell you that this style is easier to use than the Microplane Classic design grater (the long skinny one), although I do like the rubberized handle on my Microplane Classic a little better than the stainless. With my week hands, t's easier to hold on to than the stainless steel handle. I have no idea if the "professional" is any sharper than the Classic, or the Home series graters, I do know that the design of this grater is what sets it apart from all of the others. There is little to no cost difference between the Home series and the Professional, but there is a wold of difference in the ease of use. The secret is the foot on the bottom of the Professional grater. Definitely go Pro! Now, putting all of the praise aside, I have but one question for the makers of the Microplane Professional Graters that I am sure is weighing heavily on the minds of all who have ever purchased this product: Three holes? Why on earth is there a single small hole in only THREE of the four corners of this thing? Do your produce engineers not realize that things like this make people like me CRAZY? but...since the rest of the product is so darned nice, I guess I can live with the three hole thing...I just want you to tell me WHY?
Review: The microplane is really great. I've used at least 10 different graters over ... - The microplane is really great. I've used at least 10 different graters over the last three years and this is, beyond a doubt, the best of all of them. It's very well-made and seems like it will last for a few years and it is a joy to use. Love the grater. BUT, whichever department decided to use the laminated paper labels and the industrial strength glue to glue huge laminated paper shields to both the grater cover (which is really awesome, and I didn't mention is above. The grater cover is awesome so it keeps the super sharp, easy to grate cheese side safe in the drawer) but, back to my diatribe...You had to glue it to the cover and to the grater itself? really? So, I got it and soaked the parts and of course only part of the paper came off and none of the glue, so I had to keep the pieces laying next to my sink for 5 days until my day off when I could search the garage for the goo-off --which dries my cuticles and makes painful skin cracks in the winter, of course, but anyway...So I had the super nice grater and grater cover lying by my sink for 5 days, which made me feel crappy every time I looked at them..Then, on my day off I start using the goo-off and finally get the label off the cover and I'm glad to know that at least it's not the type of plastic that melts when you apply the goo-off to get the impossible to remove label off...So we've got that going for us... Then I get to the label that is stuck ONTO the grater which is much, much harder to remove than the label that is stuck on the grater cover because of course, everything that I put the goo-off on and then scrub the grater with disintegrates. Because it's a grater. And I am trying to be so careful not to tear my fingers up and I even think that I should dig around and find that metal glove that I use for the mandoline, but I know that will take at least 30 minutes and I don't want to face the fact that maybe I can't find the glove and WHY is this so hard? So I still don't have all the glue off the grater. I'm going to boil some water and put the grater in it to melt down the glue and then try to goo-off again. I do like the grater a lot and it's awesome that I can put it into boiling water. I'm going to give it 5 stars but I hope somebody in that company reads this review and does something about those labels because I am not at all happy about the amount of effort it is taking to remove them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Those of you who like this grater, how do you get the sticky label off?**
A: Goop Off or Goo B Gone gets off sticky labels from everything! This is not the only product that has really difficult labels to remove!

**Q: Is this made in the USA**
A: Blade made in USA; assembled in Mexico.

**Q: Really considering it but repeated complaints about the sticker issue gives me pause. Is that how it's currently packaged? Did this happen to everyone**
A: I did not have any trouble removing the sticker. If anything should give you pause, it is the fact that the grater is quite sharp. I recommend cut-resistant gloves.

**Q: Is this good for food like carrots, zucchini and cheddar cheese? Or would the extra course version be better?**
A: this microplane is too fine for that. I would recommend a regular sized grater for carrots and zucchini. cheddar is ok for the extra course version if it's between the fine and regular.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Grater - Does the Job
*by R***A on May 5, 2016*

I am over the bulky tent graters that are a pain to clean and to store so I thought I would try these. After reading the reviews I settled on this one. I just wanted a basic grater one that will shred to the size of store bought shredded cheese. I am trying to get away from all of this processed food (but I love cheese) so I will just start shredding my own from store bought blocks (which saves money too). I love the rubber end tip that helps stabilize this shredder and prevents it from slipping. I am just using this so far to shred basic cheese like swiss (picture), cheddar or mozz. So far so good! It shreds the cheese very well and very easily. It is easy to clean up by hand - but be careful as it will shred your sponge and your finger tips. It is easy to store right in my silverware drawer. And the plastic cover is nice to have for safe keeping. I have used it for a few months now and it hasn't dulled at all. Note that others have said about the sticky remnants from the sticker. Yes - mine has this too and it's a big pain and a big disappointment Not sure why they haven't either switched glue types or location of the sticker. I have rubbed vinegar on it and each time I wash this I try to get off more of the residue. Still gets 5 stars b/c it is a great grater so far. I know I rely heavily on reviews. Please acknowledge if you found this review helpful Thank you.
