works great!
first of all this is made of some kind of hard plastic not metal so it's pretty light which is a plus when you have rug it around the beach along with all other things you have, and also I won't have to worry about rust in salt water.I have used it twice so far two weeks apart (in Hawaii). It is made pretty strong. I had no problem digging it in to packed wet sand 6~7 inches below the surface all the way up almost to the round bolt handle. I had my weight on the handle as I was turning the anchor (I weigh 140), the handle flexed but did not crack. I don't thinks this will work very good on dirt ground.Once in the sand, we had a over sized beach umbrella anchored in it.One warning: do not over tighten the securing bolt. It is strong enough to crush the umbrella pole.It held the umbrella firm through fairly strong wind (strong enough to flip my umbrella up). It came easily off the sand and sand fell off pretty easy so there wan't much to clean either.

Great as Rod Holders
Bought these as Surf rod holders, for which they work just fine for my medium surf rods. The inside diameter is a bit small, and won't fit some rods being only about 1 1/4 inches inside diameter. Don't use the thumbscrew for rods, as you will likely run out of line before you get the rod out of the holder (not a design defect as these are sold as beach umbrella holders). These are a bit challenging to use on beaches with a lot of shell, but so far I have had no problem finding a suitable spot. They are a lot better deal than many of the vastly overpriced rod holders which are basically cut PVC Tubes.

I didn't have much expectations for it but I was very happy with the product
For the price, I didn't have much expectations for it but I was very happy with the product. It worked very well, never came loose and held the beach umbrellas in place for the hours we stayed on the beach. Now, this isn't product specific but I assume it's with all. When you put the beach umbrella in, there is "screw" on the side, that is used tighten the umbrella in place. If you use a metal umbrella it will pinch or crush the metal a bit, but I personally do not care, but people like to complain about stupid stuff so FYI. I am buying a second one for next year since this one worked better than I expected.

Held up well
Received my anchor - it was blue if that matters - and used it at our condo in the Outer Banks in South Carolina. It took a fair bit of driving into the sand once the top soft layer was penetrated but if steady downward pressure is exerted it screws in fine as the handles provide plenty of leverage. It has a large plastic screw that holds the umbrella spike in place effectively. Why only 4 stars? Well, the first day of use it was windier than usual and the sportbrella I was using caused the top 1/2 inch of the anchor to bend a little just above where the screw holds the umbrella spike in the anchor but it was a windy day and the few other umbrellas around were being blown inside out or in a couple of cases were blown out of the stand. However the anchor did its job just fine and the slight buckling did not seem to be an issue on subsequent days. It was a LOT more effective and easier than trying to get the umbrella pole into the sand without the anchor.

great anchor
We used this anchor with an 8' umbrella for a windy week in the Outer Banks of NC. It held like a champ! The plastic is pretty beefy, and it really digs into the sand well. We would dig a hole in the sand with our hands, anchor the umbrella into the hole, and then cover the entire thing with more wet sand so that the anchor handles added some additional grip. The only problem was that the tightening screw put pressure on the umbrella pole at a single point, and that caused the pole to bend a little. Nothing that can't be fixed in the future with a short length of pipe inserted into the pole to strengthen it.

Does the job
I used this anchor in Nags Head for a medium sized beach umbrella and it worked fine. The umbrella stayed put on a windy day. This exact product seems to be the top seller at the beach supply shops in the Outer Banks. The stores keep tons of them in stock. I bought another one for a second umbrella while I was down there. You do have to push down hard while screwing it into the sand, especially to get it started. You can even go in at an angle if necessary.

great for a beach umbrella
I love this. I would have lost my beach umbrella by now without it. It really is easy to screw into the sand, goes in about a foot and actually hold the umbrella. There is a hole in the top you stick the umbrella into after screwing it into the sand. Great, doesn't take up much room. It's worth it. it you ever had to run down your umbrella at the beach, get this and that will be a thing of the past.

Beware - other reviews on here must be for another item....
There are a number of reviews on here that apparently must be for another item other than the one shown. Be assured the item does NOT have a removable handle..... AT ALL. It also DOES NOT HAVE MORE THAN TWO FINS. So when one of them BREAKS OFF after only using it a small number of times, it's no good anymore. Piece of junk. Not sure what the other people on here are reviewing but I'd love to get one of those with the removable handle or with the 3 fins. This one just isn't it. If you want something that lasts..... buy something else.
