definitely bitter and no guidance with serving size ex no idea # milligrams in an 1/8 teaspoon
got the thiamine HCI bag, but it has no guideline as to milligram equivalency. someone noted that 1/16 teaspoon is roughly = 100mg dose (so 1/2 tsp would be 800mg), another noted that a 1/2 teaspoon is roughly = 1250mg. which of those is more accurate? ultimately, i need to know what a 1/8 teaspoon is equal to as that is the smallest serving spoon i have. i got the bag to do mega high doses to counter a big B1-deficit confirmed by various tests incl genetic microbiome (as a result i have daignosis of stage 2 parkinson's). and it has a bitter taste that some 'no taste' folks apparently cant taste. i wrote bulksupplements.com to ask for more measurement info. when they answer, i'll update/edit this review.

Easy to take, a little bitter
Although I've been taking 25mg for years, recently I learned that some folks may be super deficient in B1. Wondering if this deficiency was at the root of my longstanding health problems, I decided to experiment with dosing using this product. Having powder handy is just so much nicer than popping 20 pills. In an Italian study, researchers gave participants between 600mg and 1,800mg. I've used this powder to try different dosages to see if it helped me like those in the study (with CFS and other potentially longstanding beriberi problems, specifically constipation). Just so you know, this powder doesn't smell but its pretty bitter. I'm not someone who cares about that, but I realize some people do. Turns out that to make acetylcholine your body needs both B1 and choline, and that can help with constipation (lifelong for me). I think I'm finally getting somewhere with this. Apparently it can take 6+ months to recover. While I started out taking high dosages, I found I needed to scale back to 600mg (the smallest amount that yielded results in the Italian study). I got sick within a week (which for me is a good sign--called a "paradoxical reaction" or herxheimer). Crossing my fingers.

Works, but taste is beyond terrible
This supplement is a B vitamin, and if you have ever smelled the smell of old multivitamins, this will remind you instantly of that. The issue they're being taken for has subsided, so it has proven to me that they work, but the taste and smell is so putrid that no amount of flavoring seems to diminish it at all. Best to take quickly in a small amount of liquid (like a shot glass!) and then chase it with a larger amount of liquid immediately.

Strong egg Sulphur odor and taste compared to previous orders. (Orderd March 20205)
My last order of thiamine has a strong egg Sulphury odor and taste. I don't know if the lot I ordered late March 20205 is tainted. This one is extra foul from the egg odor and taste on top of the normal sharp fleeting bitterness of Thiamine. Not sure if it is more or less effective because I have been avoiding taking it out of caution, it's an expensive 8oz paper weight. The lot number is #2419211 Will change the review if get a normal product on my next smaller order. Fingers crossed.
