Very sturdy and well built
This is a really solid and well made stand. It's perfect for what I was after. My laptop is used as a virtual instrument for my band and it fits in neatly with my keyboard stand. Feels as though it should withstand gigging. I don't use the mouse tray for a mouse and as others have mentioned it's really a bit small for most mice. I use it to hold my Roland audio interface, which fits really nicely. In the description the mouse tray is described as being able to use it on the left or right, which I suppose is true, but if you want it on the left the tray will be toward the back of the laptop as the only way I can see to place it there is to turn the whole laptop table around. I would really have liked some kind of case for this stand that would allow me to carry it with the table folded but left in place, primarily to protect the mouse tray which slides out easily when carrying it. There doesn't appear to be anything custom made for it, but I've found it fits nicely into a padded guitar case, with the table folded and put where the body of the guitar would be and the legs in the neck section. It's also not an expensive option. I would certainly recommend this stand!

A good stand, not the cheapest but fine quality
A great product, not the cheapest of this type of product but the quality is first class. Sturdy and adjustable in height, tilt and rotation you will be able to find the optimum position for your laptop. The mouse tray tucks away if not needed (but does impinge slightly on the adjustments for the laptop sliders) but I used mine to hold a lamp! I have a widescreen 17" + laptop and I found the sliders adjusted well and soon were snugly holding it in place. They are helped with a grippy rubber section on the laptop tray. Very pleased, I will feel the benefits long after I have forgotten that it wasn't the cheapest buy.

Great stand overall
This stand is not perfect, but overall it is very good. Firstly, when considering buying one I think it's important to consider how you intend to use it. For example, I bought it primarily as a stand for my Native Instruments "Maschine" (Mk2) drum machine. And for that, this stand is pretty much perfect. However, I do also occasionally use the stand for its intended use, e.g. as a laptop stand. And for that purpose, I can see the limitations. First, the PROs: * Fantastic build quality. * Very sturdy and robust. * Good quality materials and finish. * Very flexible in terms of its height and angle adjustability. The CONs: * Mouse shelf is indeed far too small for its intended use. It could however accommodate a trackball device, which doesn't need to move. For me personally, it is also going to be perfect for holding a small hardware synth such as a Dave Smith Tetra. * Mouse shelf isn't removable. * Mouse shelf gets in the way when adjusting the tilt angle of the laptop stand and doing final adjustments. That said, once its all in place, this factor is no longer a problem and can be quickly forgotten about. So overall this is a great stand, albeit with a few minor compromises. I do recommend it, especially for "Maschine" owners. If you want to use the mouse stand for its intended use, then you may want to consider using a trackball instead. I am considering buying another of these stands, because they are very versatile and sturdy.

Probably the best purchase I have made for gigging!
I'm a bit of an active keyboard player (using VSTis) and found that using the 2nd tier on my keyboard stand was not laptop friendly - a few near misses made me think of a better solution... And boy am I glad I found this! Perfect fit for my Dell Studio XPS16 AND Babyface (placed in the mousetray). It feels REALLY secure on stage and I can leave it off to the side but within reach during performance. Its honestly one of the best things I have purchased for my live rig and helps setup quickly and easily... Perfect!

too clunky and heavy
I ordered this stand to replace one I already had as I was travelling abroad it is was too heavy. This item was even heavier and too long to fit into a standard large suitcase.

Quality Product!
Using this as a stand for a midi controller and it will take just about any size. Have used it live for gigs and is rock solid.

Hasn't let me down yet
was different from the one in the pic. I think it might be an older model. the one i got was a return i think. anyway the grips looked really good in the pick, on mine they were just 4 hex-keys attached with rubber caps. the rubber caps have long since vanished but i still trust it with my macbook pro. a bit fiddly setting up and packing down but the most important factor if using something like this (like me) to gig with a laptop, it's very sturdy

Great - buy it
Top quality product with solid construction. A bit heavy, but needs to be in order to protect device. Also, use my tablet on it

First of all, I ordered the stand on May 20, 2013. When you're an Amazon Prime member, there are no shipping charges on products labeled as Prime. You also get your purchases in two business days. To my surprise, I got the stand the following day! This is just one of the reasons why Amazon is the best. Anyway, back to the stand... After opening the packaging box, it only took me about 5 minutes to assemble and set it up for my laptop. Yes, it fits a 17.3" laptop! My laptop is a BOXX G1840, a powerful and thick 8.7 pound mobile workstation that I use for Revit when I'm doing client presentations (I posted three photos on the page title of the product). I also use it for reading PDF music sheets whenever I practice my alto saxophone. Before I stumbled on this product, I was placing my laptop on top of an angled heavy duty music stand during practice sessions. I knew there has to be a better way to securely hold my laptop for reading music. After doing a research, I found this Quik Lok stand at Amazon. At first, I was skeptical after reading a review that said it hardly fits a 15" laptop. But this person might have gotten the wrong model. Judging from other reviews, I knew this was the product I was looking for. There is a method on how to fit a 17.3" laptop on the tray and be supported by the adjustable arms. The arms are basically jumbo Allen wrenches attached to steel clamp-like supports at the underside. They pivot and can be locked in place by tightening the knobs. There is a rubber material at the bent end of the arms that cushions the laptop's edge. The two bottom arms are used for keeping the laptop from sliding down, although the rubber padding of the tray actually keeps the laptop in place. The two top arms are actually meant to be used for securing the sides of the laptop. When fully extended, there is still about a quarter inch space between the sides of my 17.3" laptop and the bent tip of the arms. Since the laptop would be sitting on the tray at an angle, there is no need to support it on the back side. Some reviewers were not happy with the size of the mouse tray. For me, the size was perfect, even for my mid-size wireless mouse. Being a 3D modeler, I've learned over the years how to maneuver the mouse by setting the mouse pointer speed to the maximum and doing short quick flicks with my hand to move the cursor. This prevents hand fatigue during long hours of 3D modeling work. Anyway, I'm very happy with this purchase. I've used Quik Lok products before so there was no question on its durability. They've always produce high quality products. This stand is solid, well built, and will support your precious laptop. I highly recommend it.

This stand is incredible. We use it in a adult education setting travelling between different organizations on a weekly basis. It is extremely high-quality, very stable, almost infinitely adjustable and convenient to transport. It is also nice to have a separate platform for the mouse. Often, we need to move around the room taking notes; the stand tightly grips the laptop and makes this task very easy. The build quality and durability are tremendous, the finish on the tubes is industrial grade and the adjustable knobs are large and easy to manipulate. Having used the stand for several months, we cannot believe it is priced so affordably; definitely professional grade and worth every penny.
