When i add external speakers, they only come on very quietly** A: I don't own a Shuman yet, but my past knowledge of audio stuff is at your service to try to assist with your problem. Since the Shuman's speakers are inside, there was no need for them to put sockets on the outside. Thus, if you were to plug in some speakers, they would end up in the LINE OUT phono sockets. LINE OUT is designed to provide a low level signal to an external amplifier. This is why you'll either hear nothing, or next to nothing if you stick yer plugs in there. So, if you *are* desperate to wake the neighbours with a Rockin' night of Buddy Holly or a Thumpin' night of Rave Anthems, your best option is to purchase a set of decent AMPLIFIED or POWERED SPEAKERS. These are the type that, back in the day, were to be found sitting on home computer desks. Companies such as Creative make really clear, nice sounding powered units (often with a Bass and Treble knob, which is something lacking on the Shuman) and these generally plug into headphone, AUX, or LINE OUT sockets and can really pack a punch, making your party go with an ASBO or two. You'll need to purchase a cable to connect the speakers to the HiFi. I'm sorry, but I'm not sure exactly which one you'll need. I'm guessing it's probably going to be either: A pair (Left and Right) of PHONO TO PHONO, or maybe a stereo headphone (3.5mm) to L+R PHONO. Once you have established which you need, search Amazon as they have all kinds of cables. As for speakers, I've always relied on the Creative SoundBlaster range, and had excellent results, so I've stuck with them. One final tip: DO remember that amplifying means boosting ALL sound. Scratches on records, or poorly insulated components that might cause hum or crackles, could (possibly) cause a little unwanted noise.
