Mochi Shine Muscat Traditional Japanese Rice Cakes, 130g, Soft Chewy Wagashi Food Sweets

These are delicious and weird as heck. Texture is chewy and nonsensical. Taste is bold and surprising, just in time to be swallowed by the time you begin to appreciate it, causing a nice little addiction. Gotta love japanese snacking.

Not the typical artificial grape flavor that’s common here in the US, so even if you don’t usually like grape candies, you may like these. The texture is nice too. Only complaint is that either they don’t have enough powder on the outside of them or they got smushed too thin, so they are very sticky, where other mochi I’ve tried don’t have this issue.

I love love love this product. Regular Korean shop was out and I had to order some. It’s not like a normal gummy it’s better. It’s not super sweet very subtle. Price was reasonable. Not super sticky. It’s like a gummy had a baby with mochi❤️

These are pretty tasty, glad I tried them. For muscat in particular, though, I still prefer gummies instead of mochi. There are so many flavors, though, and my husband definitely plowed through some of the others we tried.

I love shine muscat grapes. These have that same sweetness. They are perfectly soft, squishy & yummy.

The purple ones tend to be more favorited in my family. If you are looking for traditional mochi, this is not it. This is more of a giant soft jelly bean rather than the mochi I have had in Japan.

A subtle grape flavour but still very yummy with a texture that we personally enjoyed.The mochi are individually wrapped within the packet, so they will last longer than the day you open the pack, and could easily be divided into a handbag snack or for lunchboxes.. though this means there is a lot of plastic and packaging with this product.

When you first open the pack, you're greeted with a really lovely, authentic grape fragrance, presumably due to the Shine Muscat juice used. Inside, you get 10 individually wrapped mochi pieces (13g each, making up the 130g total). The individual plastic wrappers are convenient and recyclable.The mochi themselves look good, lightly dusted with powder, and have a high-quality feel. The texture is pleasant, soft, with a satisfyingly chewy bite.However, the main drawback for me is the flavour balance. They are incredibly sweet, and that sweetness really dominates the entire experience. While the grape aroma was promising, the actual taste felt overwhelmed. I sensed there might be another underlying flavour, perhaps a slight fruitiness or even a touch of sourness that could have provided balance, but it was hard to detect under the intense sugariness.Considering the price (£9 for 130g), these fall into the category of an expensive, occasional treat rather than something I'd buy regularly. The value isn't quite there for me, mostly because the flavour profile was skewed so heavily towards just 'sweet'.(P.S. - For anyone wondering about the California Proposition 65 warning on the packaging: this is standard for many products sold in California and wasn't a concern for me personally.) Overall, the mochis themselves were high quality, but let down by pricing and flavour.

THese taste amazing, although they are smaller and flatter than other rice type mochi cakes I've had (probably because they are filled with something).The muscat grape flavour is very strong, you only need to eat one of these to be satisfied so although the cost is rather high for the pack, you won't be eating them all at once.the pack size is 8 servings and there are 8 individually wrapped cakes inside with each being 120 calories, for an occasional treat this would probably be acceptable.
