Hot frothing supposedly works on a different principle, but is best with higher fat milks. If you try that, they recommend 50 seconds in an 800 Watt microwave oven but never hot enough to boil. They also have a technique where you start at the bottom of your cup and move up slowly until just under the surface regardless of temperature, and then do another round for optimal froth. Every coffee drink is a new experiment in the above variables for me, so hopefully you will find your optimum froth that way too! **Q: how do i open the battery case** A: Susan, If you look at the bottom of this frothing device you will see a ribbed black cover. If you are right handed, Hold the frother with the left hand so you can see the ribbed black cover, then put your right thumb on this cover, push down with your thumb and slide the cover back towards you.
