Review: Solid build, just works - The lock feels solid, it has a good heft to it. Fingerprint detection works reliably and fast. The installation is well thought out with exception of the cable, it's too stiff and the fine wires at the end are exposed and prone to pinching. Reversing the lock is ingeniously simple. A wide variety of catches and latch plates are included. I was not able to connect to the lock via the Aqara app. Probably because I don't have an Aqara hub (?). Pairing with my Home Kit hub was flakey but worked on the 3rd attempt. Once paired, the lock works like a charm. It operates super quietly. Fingerprints read fast, Apple Home Key reads fast. As it should. The keys look like Schlage keys and I was able to insert a Schlage key in the lock. In bet if you wanted you could re-key this lock to any Schlage key - although I have not tried that. It's a lot of lock for the money. I love it.
Review: Nice looking and easy to use! - This is a great smart lock once you actually get it installed. We had an issue with the handle staying firm. After many you tube videos, the problem was corrected. The keypad is easy to use. The fingerprint entry is fantastic. Setting up the app and subsequent users was relatively easy. If it wasn’t for the handle flopping during installation I would have given this a 5 star as it is exactly what we wanted in a smart lock.

**Q: How do I know if this will fit my door?**
A: The lock fits doors with a 2 3/8" or 2 3/4" (60–70mm) backset, 1 3/8"–2 11/64" (35–55mm) thickness, and a 2 1/8" (54mm) hole. If your door has two boreholes (typically for separate deadbolt and handle), a deadbolt-style lock may be more suitable.

**Q: Can the Aqara U300 be used on outdoor doors?**
A: We do not recommend exposing the product directly to rain or snow. If used outdoors, it must be installed under a covered entrance (e.g., a porch or awning).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I like Aqara but it requires hubs to maximize the features

The Aqara U300 works great! I really love the passcode, fingerprint, and Bluetooth access. My house is about 2,200 sq ft, and I’m able to control the lock via Bluetooth throughout the entire house without any issues. If you want NFC or Apple Wallet features, you do need to purchase an Aqara Hub, but overall the user interface and functionality are excellent. Installation was easy for me since my garage door already had a handle-style lock. It is definitely more expensive compared to other smart lock systems, but in my experience, it’s worth it. I previously used an August lock, and the connection was very inconsistent. The Aqara U300 feels much more reliable and polished in comparison.

### ⭐ Two Dead in a Month — Unreliable and Barebones for Remote Use

I bought three Aqara U300 locks for interior doors in a remote Airbnb setup, thinking they’d be a cost-effective, smart upgrade. Unfortunately, two out of the three died within the first month, both due to completely drained batteries. Once they're dead, they’re totally unresponsive—even with fresh batteries, you need physical access to power them up via USB-C or key (and yes, it’s a huge pain when you're managing things remotely). Worse, you can’t unlock or manage users remotely. You have to be physically near the lock with Bluetooth to do anything meaningful—like adding/removing users or unlocking the door. You can see battery status through the app, but you won’t get any warnings when it’s about to die. So unless you're actively checking, good luck catching it before the lock bricks itself. Meanwhile, my Schlage exterior smart locks are still cruising along at 90% battery, fully remote-capable, and haven’t given me a single issue. Should’ve just spent the extra and gone all-in on Schlage. Pros: Sleek design Works with Apple Home Key and Matter (when it works) Easy initial setup Cons: 2 of 3 failed within a month due to dead batteries No remote management or unlocking No low-battery notifications Bluetooth-only for any real admin control Not suitable for Airbnb, rental, or any off-site use Emergency power is awkward if you’re not physically there Bottom line: If you need something that actually works for remote property management, this isn't it. Looks nice, sure—but the reliability and features just aren't there. Aqara still feels like beta hardware. Go with Schlage if you want peace of mind.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Feels like a lock Apple would build

I've owned several smart locks over the years. The Aqara U300 is my favorite of them all. PROS - 1) Simple installation - if you use HomeKit it integrates into Apple Home easily without need for a separate WiFi hub, the Aqara locks were built for HomeKit so this feels like the closest thing to an Apple built smart lock. 2) Sleek design - no bulging battery pack on the inside, small footprint for the equipment on the outside, hands down this is the best looking smart lock I've ever seen. 3) Fingerprint scanner is very quick - sets up a lot like a fingerprint ID on an iPhone 4) Apple HomeKey is incredible - HomeKey is added to Wallet on iPhone (of all Household members of your Apple Family who have access to Home) automatically when the lock is added to Home. Just tap your iPhone or Apple Watch on the outside display and the lock opens immediately, you don't even need to turn on your iPhone or Watch, just tap and open the door. CONS - 1) No WiFi connection to Aqara APP - only connects via Bluetooth. Which isn't too much of a hassle, because once setup through Apple Home, remote operation (locking and unlocking) is available. But you need the Aqara app to setup additional users, their passcode and their fingerprint scan, all things that need to be done close to the lock, so lack of a WiFi connection on the app is not a deal breaker. But just be aware, if you are adding additional users, you need the Aqara APP, and you need to be very close to the lock. 2) It RE-LOCKS very quickly. When you unlock this lock you have a very short time to open the door, or it will re-lock. I understand wanting to keep the house secure - but there are times when a 10 minute delay re-lock would be helpful - like bringing in your groceries from the garage, your hands are full it's not convenient to be trying to put your thumb on the fingerprint reader, or trying to tap your Apple Watch on the display. There is a setting in the Aqara APP called PASSAGE MODE - I set that to 10 minutes. To activate PASSAGE MODE, you need to push a button on the top of the inside portion of the lock, and verify with a passcode, fingerprint or Apple Watch / iPhone bump on the outside portion of the lock. That then stops the lock from re-locking for the set amount of time - IF you remember to hit that little button. It would just be easier to have the 10 minute delay activate every time. Lots of PROS for this lock - and a few CONS - but a HIGHLY recommended smart lock!!
