How toxic is this? I read people put it in their horse stalls, but not sure about how smaller animals will react to it

I hang one inside my horse shelter (12’ x 12’). Have one in each storage shed. 1 inside my Turkey (Turkeys, chickens, ducks, Guineas, Bantams). I process all mention poultry & fowl, all internal organs are healthy. Also chickens and ducks eat the mice from inside poultry house that has continual spray with no I’ll effects.
I put 2 inside our home, each dispenser facing towards the exterior doors to kill anything crawling/entering from cracks under doors.
I hatch chicks, quail, ducklings inside with no I’ll effects.
Inside house with 2 dispensers going I did end the life of my Chicilian Rose Tarantula. Tho’ she was 29+ years old and may have just finally died from old age. 
Inside home we have cats, dogs, tutles, rabbit, 2quail, hog nose snake, 2parrots, & one betta, no problems with any pets. 
We’ve used these for many years. I want to mention besides flies & mosquitos, it also kills scorpions. We do still get spiders in the far back bathroom (4 rooms away from dispenser with doors closed.) we don’t put these in our bedrooms, just the Main living area directed at both exterior doors. Hope this helps.

Does this work with any dispenser or not?

yes, it does. Just make sure that it fits into the dispenser and the sprayer button will hit the nozzle. Used many fragrance dispensers myself over the years.....
Try to use an alternate that has at least 15 minute intervals. Some areas you can get away with 30 minutes, but I found it most effective for me on the 15.....
