Canon SELPHY QX20 Mini Portable Photo Printer | Wireless Dye-Sublimation

What a great little printer! I use it for printing photos for my adventure / travel journal, and it is perfect. It looks smart, easy to use, good quality prints, app connects well with iPhone via wifi, lots of places sell refill paper / ink. keeps charge. It's small but a little heavy to take with me on my travels. Prints cost approx 80p, so not the cheapest option, I haven't used cheaper third party supplies. The app is good, but not amazing. Navigating to specific albums can be a bit slow, so I tend to favourite the photos I want to print. Unfortunately after 3 months and printing about 80 photos the film got caught and stuck in the machine. I tried to remove it but some was stuck, leaving the machine useless. I contacted Canon support via their website, and after a couple of emails they sent a replacement to me. 3 days later I was happily printing again. I was so pleased it was sorted so quickly. Like most people, I have hundreds of photos on my phone that rarely get printed, and that's where this little printer really comes into its own. Being able to print wirelessly from a smartphone makes the whole process quick and convenient. I particularly like the option of two different print sizes and the peel-and-stick backing, which opens up lots of possibilities for scrapbooks, journals, memory books and craft projects. Because it uses dye-sublimation printing, you don't have to deal with traditional ink cartridges, although it's worth factoring the ongoing cost of the compatible ink and paper sets into your decision before buying. The printer itself is compact enough that it doesn't need a permanent place on a desk and can easily be stored away between uses. For me, the biggest advantage is convenience. If printing a photograph involves turning on a full-sized printer and loading special paper, I probably won't bother. With this, printing favourite moments feels much more accessible. A lovely little printer for anyone who enjoys scrapbooking, journalling or simply wants to turn digital photos into something tangible.

THE PRINT PROCESS Three passes. Cyan, magenta, yellow, each one sliding through the unit with a satisfying little whirr. You can watch each colour layer build up on the print and it's weirdly satisfying, like a miniature production line on your desk. From tapping print in the app to holding a finished photo took roughly 40 seconds, which is quicker than I expected for dye sublimation. THE APP AND OUTPUT Canon's SELPHY app on Android is fine. Nothing fancy, does the job. You pick a photo, crop it, hit print. My one gripe is the mandatory white border along the bottom of every print. You can't remove it unless you cut it post print. Or if you can using some IT magic, I haven't found the way. Both the square and rectangular image sizes are peel-and-stick, which was the whole reason I went this route over Instax — I wanted stickers without messing about with separate adhesive sheets. And also something that's more cost-effective over time. THE UNIT It's compact enough to sit on a bookshelf but has a surprising weight to it. Feels like there's some real engineering inside rather than just a plastic shell. USB-C charging, which is welcome. The pink finish looks smart when clean. WHAT YOU DON'T GET No ink cartridge. No paper. Not even a sample pack. At £123.50 you're buying a printer that can't print anything until you order consumables separately. No carry case either, despite this being marketed as portable. I had to order a pack of square and rectangular paper just to find out which format I preferred. Canon could have thrown in five sheets of each and a starter cartridge. Compatibility is also limited to Canon's proprietary formats. I'm generally against tech limiting supplies by format but I suppose the dye sublimation method is pretty niche. OVERALL A capable little photo printer that produces lovely peel-and-stick prints. If it came with ink and paper in the box, this would easily be five stars.

Prior to purchasing this product. I already owned 2 other portable Canon printers. An Selphy and canon zoemini 2. The Canon SELPHY QX20 uses a dye sublimation to print photos. They are better quality than zink ink and the photo lasts ages. What made me order another printer? I wanted the dye sublimation and the ability to have sticky backing for junk and travel journaling. The Selphy QX20 prints on two paper sizes. 72 x 85mm Photo or 54 x 85mm. In order to use the printer you need to download the selphy app. I had no problems with setting up the ink and paper into the printer. You just need to open the side and slide the ink cartridge and add the paper at the back. Do keep in mind that you have to use up the paper and cartridge before switching to another size. You can add different borders in the app, bear in mind it will leave a white area for you to write on. It does not print fully on the sheet. Watch as the printer runs three 3 different inks and a final gloss coating. It prints the photo quickly, the colours seem to match my iPhone screen without adjusting the settings. I love the portability and size, although it is heavier than the zoemini. A minor thing but you expect that the printer should at least come with some paper and ink to sample the machine for the price of £99. You will need to add the ink to your order for you to use.

This little printer is so easy to use and you have the options to print 2 different sizes, the photos are very sharp and clear and prints very quickly with no fuss. Definitely recommend this product

The print quality is good but my ink cartridge keeps jamming and I loose a whole pack of paper/ink which is very expensive.

Superb - easy to use and prints are of excellent quality

It’s a bit of fun. I’m a wedding photographer and being able to print a proper tangible photograph and hand it to someone is really lovely. The quality is clearly a step up from an instax or a non branded printer but it’s expensive and for the cost I want it to be even better. The cost of the printer isn’t cheap and then per print is about £1 each as well for a tiny little photo. Not sure how I feel about it just yet.

Cooler, kleiner Drucker der leicht zu verstauen ist. Bringt schöne Fotoergebnisse im praktischen und modernen Polaroidformat. Durch die App, die kostenlos installiert werden muss ist es einfach die gewünschten Fotos zu gestalten. Die App bringt noch eine Vielzahl an Rahmen und Matten Fotofinishes mit, sogar kleine Collagen lassen sich mit bis zu 4 Fotos gestalten. Eine sehr coole Sache für Tagebücher oder schnelle Erinnerungen für Freunde.

Photos are blurry and hazy; I think I have a faulty printer or do not buy.

It seems like I keep receiving defective units from Amazon Germany. The first unit came with broken ink cartridge latch right out of the box and I had to return it. The second unit I repurchased couldn't print right. All prints had dog ears and long streak of scratches. First print came out blurry and subsequent prints had ink streaks. I tried troubleshooting, adjusting printing paper and ink sheet, all issues still persist.
