Very pleased!
Let me start by saying that I'm a 70 year old woman and also fairly new to detecting (4-5 years). I've enjoyed puttering around with my first two detectors but they were pretty basic and good for beginners and youngsters. I've wanted to upgrade to a more sophisticated unit so I could have a better idea of what I was finding but most of them were so out of my price range I was afraid I was out of luck! When I found the Ricomax GC-1028 it seemed to be just what I was looking for, and in my price range! Hooray! Ordered it immediately! The packaging was sturdy and all parts and pieces were individually secured in pullout cardboard stabilizers. Assembly directions were clear and well illustrated as well as the operating directions. Each function of the unit was described in detail and also illustrated, and the testing and "how to use" sections very well covered. It's lightweight and comfortable to hold, which for me is a plus since I have physical issues that don't let me get too "frisky" when I'm out looking for treasure! In testing it, the unit detected a silver ring, a gold pendant, indicated a penny and a nickle accurately, and found a buried nail 3 inches down. The only issue I had is the batteries wore down terribly fast! Now, to be fair, even though they were brand new and the same brand, they were not the best quality so that will have to be tested at a later date. Overall, I am quite pleased with my newest toy and look forward to many hours scouring the parks and places that just might make me rich! Or, if not rich, at least get me out of the house and on my feet! (Probably not something a serious prospector would want but several steps above a beginner's unit and definitely just right for the casual hunter.)

An excellent choice for entry-level metal detecting.
My Bounty Hunter Tracker IV metal detector recently ran into some issues, so I decided to see if I could find a reasonably-priced replacement as this time of year is the best time for metal detecting. This RICOMAX metal detector was the best-priced one I could find that actually included a working LCD screen. I really like that this metal detector utilizes an LCD panel that actually gives you an estimate about what is it is detecting before you take the time and effort to dig into the ground. The LCD panel is also useful in many other ways, as it gives you a depth estimate and even tells you how your battery life is looking. I especially love that feature as thereโs nothing worse than wanting to use a device only to find it is dead. Setting the detector up was very easy. You really just have to connect a small handful of parts, insert 2 9V batteries, and youโre good to go. The package even contains a small shovel for digging up your loot. A nice touch. The Bounty Hunter metal detector has an analog discrimination gauge which in all honesty is just a pain to use. I love the discrimination feature that this detector features and have found it to be pretty accurate. It also emits different tones depending on what it detects. I tested out the detector with a few different types of metal, including a gold wedding ring, and was impressed to find that the detector was able to point that out to me. I now know that I have a powerful tool to use if myself or a loved one ever loses a valuable piece of jewelry.

Great for kids!
We bought this metal detector for my son's 12th birthday at the beach. He was very surprised and excited! He loves every feature of the sensor showing what type of metal it is sensing. The water proof base is nice also so it can be used in small creeks, rivers and ocean shores. The shovel that came with it was very nice also! The adjustable stem is great so kids and adults alike can use. It was very easy to assemble and packaged very well! We have only used it a few times so far but it really is a nice metal detector!

Great metal detector for the price
I received the detector really quick as promised and was excited to get going and finding a treasure.. It came in a nicely packed box, and was really easy to put together as it was in about 4 pieces and the instructions are really easy to follow. Don't forget the batteries! None are included. It did come with a little shovel that stows away into a travel bag which is nice, but it did not come with the carry case that is shown in the picture. I'm still very new to metal detecting, so I haven't found anything really.. I've dug a few holes and am learning that just because it beeps it may not be anything depending on your swing or if you bump something, things like that. I'd suggest watching a bunch of youtube videos to get an idea of what to do and not to do. It can be frustrating and tiring to dig a hole and not find anything and then realize that it was only signaling because you were bumping a piece of wood nearby or something like that. Overall though, it's really easy to understand, as each different "metal" makes a different noise and shows up on the LCD screen. It also shows an approximate depth, which is nice so if it's finding things at 8" in hard packed soil you can just let it go and look for things closer to the surface. I've only been out a couple of times so far. It's very light weight at only about 2.5 pounds, but your arm does get tired after a bit of walking around and then digging.. I couldn't imagine carrying one that was like 5 pounds or more.. So that's nice. I've only had it for about a week or so, and so far so good.. If something goes screwy I'll come back and update the review, but I'm really happy with it so far!

Meh...
Not saying this is bad. I gave it a try this afternoon, after work. Easy enough to use. Didn't find anything, but that's the buyer's risk. I'll try it more over the next few days. I wonder what would have happened had I purchased a more expensive model. I live in an historic area. 300 years of British/American history. Colonization. Slavery. The Revolution. The Civil War. Etc. I really out to find something. We'll see. Tomorrow? The "Acid Test." I'll salt my back yard with a fist full of coins. If it doesn't work, This Johnny is going back.

My Ricomax, very first Metal Detector and we put it through its paces
I received my Ricomax GC-1028 yesterday. This is the first Metal Detector that I've ever owned, and am I ever grateful that I chose this one to start off with. The instructions are very simple to follow and a lot easier than I thought. After reading the online Owner Manual, off I went to search for buried treasure with my children. I'm a single father of my 5 beautiful children, and I count it as a win if I can get them interested in anything other than the TV and their other electronic gadgets. And seeing that we are all fans of the TV show, "Expedition Unknown", I figured they might find Metal Detecting enjoyable. Off to the backwoods, we go and it wasn't long before my Ricomax began alerting us to something buried. One of the various features that my Ricomax has is the 3 different tones it makes when it detects metal. Each tone indicates finding different types of metals. Once you've read the Owner Manual and then hear the tones, before you start digging, you've got a very good idea of the type metal you're going to find. I'm a Medically Retired Deputy Sheriff here in South Carolina, I sustained a severe back injury in 2013 and had to retire. With that being said, finding a Metal Detector that wasn't heavy but still offered the things that a high-end detector costs, was one of the selling points I was looking for. My Ricomax looked great on paper, but the true test is when I got the opportunity to use it "in the field". I patiently awaited my children's arrival from school, we assembled it and off we went. I was blown away at how light my Ricomax Metal Detector is. It literally put zero strain on my back, which allowed me to spend more time searching. Though we didn't locate any buried treasure, we did locate an old Bottle Cap. Although it was just a Bottle Cap, I wish y'all could've seen my children's excited looks. Purchasing my Ricomax Metal Detector was a very smart purchase. Even if we never locate buried treasure worth billions, seeing my children get so excited about unearthing something is something that could never have a value placed on it. Also, even though it was our very first time utilizing a Metal Detector, I knew that my children were going to put it through its paces. I allowed all 4 of my Sons and my 1 little Princess to take turns, and though I told them to be careful, kids are going to be kids. In conclusion, my Ricomax Metal Detector definitely gets the, "Crawford Stamp of Approval", in all categories. My plan is to purchase a Metal Detector for all of my children, and I can assure you that I'll purchase nothing besides Ricomax Metal Detectors from this point on.

Not Good
This is my first bad amazon review, but for me, this product was highly disappointing. First, I tested the detector on all settings and also tried to find things on my property before I took it out. i tested it on pure silver coins, pure copper coins and my wedding band. These items were placed on the surface, and some very shallow in the ground. The detector would only sometimes go off, and when it did, the tone was not constant. Once I got a hit, I would pass along multiple times and it would never go off a second time, even after I passed it over exactly where the coins were. I could see the coin and the detector would not go off. I did not have any discrimination on either. A metal detector should give a constant tone when it is over metal. This detector may beep quickly and then never read anything again. The pin point feature was highly inconsistent. I understand this is an inexpensive detector, but the look of it was great, and it performed worse than my $50 bounty hunter detector. At least that detector gives you a constant tone when you are over metal. Iโm highly dissatisfied with this unit. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I wish I would have known this before I bought it. Iโll just do more research next time.

Excellent Budget Detector GC-1028
I've been metal detecting for many years now and I bought this detector simply to have an inexpensive backup in case one of my main units fails. Since it is the middle of winter here I was unable to test this product outside, however, I was able to do thorough indoor testing. I know some of you may find it odd I'd review this without outdoor testing, but believe me, a lot of detectors are tested indoors against each other in order to verify strength and discrimination ability ( I may update review once spring rolls around). I put this detector (with it's 10" coil) up against other detectors in it's relative price/power range. The Bounty Hunter Quicksilver, Garrett Ace 200, and Fisher F22 (all with 8" coils"). The coin test is simple; we move a coin side to side against the coil and see how far we can get a strong signal. In this case I'll just speak of the quarter test results, as I do not want this review to turn into an essay. The Quicksilver was able to keep a crisp signal with correct tone at 8", The Ace 200 was slightly less at 7.5", the F22 again 7.5", and this detector also came in at 7.5". Similar results were found with dimes, nickels, silver dollars, and fifty cent pieces. All in all, very much in the same ballpark for power. Now for the discrimination testing, all of the detectors worked correctly, however the large 10" coil on this detector does make pinpointing and garbage pickup a bit more of a problem. It's not terrible and this is a common issue when using larger coils. Long story short, the smaller the coil, the better it will be at using discrimination because it covers less area(smaller coils are also what you want if you are mainly searching for gold). I will point out the larger coils require a slightly slower movement/swing as they can miss things, so keep it a smooth motion back and forth when swinging. Without going into further detail, from what I have seen, this detector at under $100 is an absolute steal. It's definitely a beginner detector but it comes with bells and whistles that you usually don't see until you get to the $200+ range. If you are interested in the hobby and want to play on the beach, dig up your yard, or simply to have a backup like me, I recommend this detector.

Awesome metal detector!
Bought this for my husband for for a Fatherโs Day gift. He loved it! Works great and very easy to use. I was very Happy with the product, but the delivery was a nightmare. After numerous calls to Loomis express, it finally arrived over a month and a half later. The box Looked like it had seen better days, so I was a little concerned there may be some damage . Fortunately it was all good!

Great product slow ass shipping
Unfortunately I didnโt get this until well after Christmas when it was supposed to be here before. When it did come, my husband loved it. Canโt wait for spring and summer now! Something I would maybe add would be batteries that are rechargeable to go along with it. Would be worth it to add ๐ Product is great, shipping is poor
