Amazing! Worth the high price tag
This is fantastic! We originally had a stainless steel litter tray for our kitten and cleaning it every night was a massive chore (he is on a wet food diet and wees a lot!). This was pretty much ready to use straight out of the box. The app is easy to use. We have a kitten (which I only realised on delivery it says it is not suitable for kittens or pregnant cats) but it does have the kitten mode function which means we use the app to select ‘empty’ instead of allowing it to happen automatically when our kitten leaves the box. It seamlessly empties out the used litter and even works a treat on our kitten’s softer stool. I thought it would streak but it didn’t. Have only had it a few days so can’t comment on the ease to clean it but I don’t think I could go 15 days (as stated) without emptying the trash bag as my kitten wees often. We have the deodoriser provided installed bar the trash but did not opt for the additional air purifier that sits inside the litter tray. We have zero smell coming from this litter tray and we use Ever Clean unscented clumping litter which admittedly didn’t smell either when used in our stainless steel litter tray. Our kitten took to using this straight away before we could even add some of his old / used litter (as recommended) to help him adjust. After the first couple of uses he did go in and out a few times to dig around for previous wee and poo but is now used to not doing this and is enjoying his clean set up. It also has a large footprint compared to a traditional tray set up but I now no longer have litter kicked out of the tray in every direction to continuously clean up, it all stays inside the box. We use our old litter mat with this, as it is rounded it sits neatly underneath to catch stray litter without needing to be placed directly under the machine. This is not a cheap option but saves so much time and energy each night that it is 100% worth the investment.

Brilliant once set up, but beware of soft floors!
I bought this for my 16-year-old cat, and while I’m absolutely thrilled with it now, getting it working took some troubleshooting. Here are the things you need to know before buying: The Floor Issue: If you have soft, squishy, or floating vinyl floors, the weight sensors in the feet will not work. The floor absorbs the weight, resulting in "ghost" visits where your cat uses it but the machine does nothing. I fixed this by buying a solid 18mm wooden board and placing the litter box on top. Once it was on a truly hard, zero-bounce surface, it worked perfectly and it is whisper quiet - my cat was curled up in a ball sleeping peacefully nearby whilst it was cycling - didn't bother her at all! The Wi-Fi/App: The initial setup and connection was easy but I don't find the app very user-friendly - it's difficult to find what you need IMO. Also the data is inaccurate - it's currently saying my cat went 0 times yesterday, however if I select yesterday in the calendar it shows her visits. Not sure why! My cat is a very healthy 3.85kg (weighed on baby scales) but the app initially recorded her as 2.2kg, I think she must've been resting her front paws outside. Do not panic if you see a sudden "weight drop" in the app! As long as the machine catches enough of their weight, it will still successfully trigger the automatic cleaning cycle, but if it drops too low you can turn kitten mode on for safety. I set the auto-clean on a 30-minute delay so it doesn't spook her, and it handles the messy work brilliantly and quietly. It is definitely worth the money and effort, but just make sure you have a rock-solid floor and understand how your cat sits in it before you panic about the scales! Hopefully as my cat uses it more regularly and becomes more comfortable with it, she'll be fully inside and weighed properly. Overall I'm impressed with the quality and am glad I bought it. It's so much easier and more hygienic than standard litter trays and is way better than my old (now broken) robot from a competitor (quieter, better waste compartment, smaller footprint and smart features). I did buy a little step to help my old girl get in and out, as she's a bit arthritic, but most cats probably won't need one. I haven't bothered with the optional air freshener spray (sold separately) in case it deters her, plus I don't think it's necessary - shame you can't get the light on its own though!

Not bad, but expensive option
We've had this for about 3 months now. Have found it to be good quality in build, ease of use and ease of cleaning. Have had no leaks and our 8 month old has no issues using it (apart from not liking the flap) The bad parts. It is expensive and quite large. I think the app could use some more features. For example, you can reset the the odor eliminator as a reminder when it needs changing but after emptying the waste, it constantly states its still full when its not. Sometimes it can take hours before it figures it out, even after removing and putting the tray back and ensure the bag is set properly. Its annoying. The waste container mounts up quickly and does not level, so it'll say the containers full but theres still plenty of room. So it says average solo cat 14-15 days, but for out 1 kitten it "fills" in about 4-5 days. Also, it has inbuilt scales, but they are way off. After believe my kitten was underweight, we took her to the vets and found she was a kilo over what the scales showed. Even after changing her weight in the app, the scales still show her a kilo less. Not end of the world, but if you have the feature, you expect it to work. Overall I still think its worth it, but the additional (bags, odor eliminators, added litter, deodoriser spray etc) they're not cheap.

Fantastic - a game changer for me, got some of my freedom back
I don’t generally write reviews but in the case of the PETKIT PURA MAX 2 I felt I had to review. This auto cat litter box has been a game changer for me. I have two Scottish fold indoor cats – they are actually my daughters but she is at university. I have a caravan and a girlfriend in Germany. As a result, I like to go away on frequent short breaks and long weekends. I don’t want to put the cats in the cattery as they are indoor cats, and it freaks them out. Feeding is not an issue as they generally have high quality dry food and water is also not an issue. The problem was the litter tray ! I cleaned the tray one or twice a day so going away was an issue. The tray was also a bit ….. well smelly and I was always concerned about the potential smell with having visitors. This auto cleaning litter box has solved all my issues. Although I wouldn’t leave them for a week the box copes with two cats for a week no problem before the bag needs a change. I am using Amazon ultra clumping litter and that also lasts at lease a week without topping up. The box itself stays amazingly clean. I just spray the inside with surface cleaner once and week and wipe it out. The unexpected bonus is the smell issue seems to have been eliminated. They use the box and within a minute it has completed it’s cleaning cycle and the waste is in the bag, in the box with the lid closed. The phone app is really good and is totally stable with lots of settings although I found I left most at the default state. The box correctly identifies each of my cats and provides lots of data on usage. If you are in a position where you need to travel and need a bit of freedom or you just don’t want to be scooping cat waste every day get one of these units – yes, it is expensive but worth every penny. I think it will pay for itself in saved litter and home visit cat sitters in less than a year.

I should have got one of these sooner
The PETKIT PURA MAX 2 Self Cleaning Cat Litter Tray is a great investment, it changed my life, I no longer have to worry about two cat trays every day, no more scooping and having to dispose of waste daily. It is quiet, looks of good quality, and I think it will last a long while. You also can get spare parts if needed. It works very well, the waste is disposed automatically to the waste bin and the smells don't linger. As a bonus it works with pretty much any clumping cat litter, so you don't have to buy specialised expensive cat litter. We went for World's best, but I would research what litter would work best for you. The device is big, it is bigger than I thought it would be, and it needs space around it to function properly, make sure you have enough space for it. It is also fairly heavy, and it needs to be on a solid surface to work, carpets or a cat litter mat prevent it from working properly. You need space and a hard floor. The sensors work well, if it is doing a cleaning cycle for example, it will pause if a cat goes near it. I found the setup fairly easy, and they do have YouTube video guides, which are helpful. Both my cats got used to it quickly, and one of them is afraid of everything. The only complaint I have is that I should have got one of these sooner! It is saving me time and it will pay for itself as I'm using a lot less cat litter than I used to. The application works very well, I wish you could turn off the mentions of other devices, but apart from that you can see what PURA MAX is doing and how many times the cats have used it. You can add the cats to the application by weight so the tray can identify which cat used it. For us, as our cats weigh a similar weight, it confuses both of them, but we don't think that's an issue.

Not worth it in my opinion.
I know the majority of these reviews are overwhelmingly positive, which confuses me because it makes me feel like im doing something wrong..(I'm not) I do think its more hassle than it's worth. Especially when you're paying this much money for it. The pee clumps VERY easily and causes blockage and issues when auto cleaning. It makes out like you don't need to clean it much, but I find myself having to put my hand in there atleast 3 to 4 times a week to sort out the gross clumping of the pee soaked litter that won't shift properly with the automatic cleaning. And I have to give it a proper clean atleast once a week too due to pee staining and poop smears all over the back of it which starts to stink. And the collection tray fills up VERY quickly. I pay for the good petkit tofu litter too, which isn't supposed to clump as badly as other litters, but i can assure you, it does.. There is absolutely no way in hell I could leave this machine for 15 days, that's honestly CRAZY talk, and not at all factual in my experience. Don't spend your money on this if you're thinking there will be no smell or mess to clean, there is.

A real game changer, forget the competition, the PETKIT Pura Max is the best automatic litter box
I don't usually write reviews and I only did it for this one because it is an incredible product and a true game changer that deserves to be known as we are being underserved by the current competition. Introduction Let me first start saying that prior to this unit I had the Litter-Robot 3 (LR) Connect by Whisker for almost 2 months so I had ample time to understand what I think makes a successful and great automatic self-cleaning litter box: design, cleaning mechanism, cat sensor, noise, odour control, litter types, app connectivity, reliability, customer service and price. What you get: - The PURA MAX - A full set of waste liners - Deodorizer system with 2 bottles - Anti tracking matt - Some cute stickers Design It feels like a futuristic product and something you would expect if you are paying circa £600 for it. It is only available in white however I feel it is a neutral color that goes well with any room. It has a mini OLED screen that tells you relevant information on the current status such as a countdown to when the PURA MAX (PM) will start cleaning itself, that’s weight or whether it has stopped. This is again better than 4 buttons only system of the LR where you literally need to have to learn what color (red, blue, yellow) means from the 4 buttons (power, cycle, empty, reset) and all the different combinations (holding two buttons longer, shorter, etc) It is also easy to assemble and disassemble (the glover, waste area or other parts) should you wish to perform a deep cleaning. I like the fact that the included charger is a braided cable instead of a flimsy one like the Litter-Robot 3 Connect. In terms of performing a deep cleaning, I think PM would be easier as the unit and the glove are lighter and litter wouldn’t be in place it shouldn’t due to a superior sealing. Overall, the size and dimensions are slightly smaller than the LR and space wise (entrance and interior space) similar to the LR or just slightly less. Cleaning mechanism This is the biggest different compared to LR and why I think PM is a clear winner. LR moves like a clock, clockwise (cleaning cycle) and counter clockwise (emptying). When cleaning it, it will move clockwise and litter and clumps will meet first the sieve/strainer pouch which it will let the unused clumping litter to be stored. Then it will reach a hole in the globe which will then allow the clumps to drop into the waste container. After that it will shift counter clockwise to return the litter to where it is. The bottom side of the globe is made of a type of rubber that should be anti-scratches however I can see that it was easily damaged as cats bury their droppings. My main issues with this mechanism is that: 1. The entrance to the LR is always exposed so cats can easily go in and out when it’s actually moving. This shouldn’t be happening if the sensor is active however I felt it was not always good at sensing them as it’s mainly through weight and the cat is already in. It took my cat almost 2 weeks to get used to it and a lot of trial and error. Not an easy transition from your traditional litter box. 2. Clumps will often times get stuck to the rubber bottom (regardless of whether it’s clumping or not clumping ones) it will not slide into the waste container. The worst is when the globe is cycling and the clumps are still on top and they fall either on your cat or inside the globe but then breaking the clumps into crumbles and getting mixed with the unused litter. 3. It is not entirely sealed so often times there would be litter outside the globe, at the entrance of the waste container, in the base, etc. 4. It actually takes 2 minutes and 30 seconds for a full cleaning, a rather long waiting time. PR solves this issue the following way: 1. Instead of rotating horizontally, it is rotating vertically, so when the glove is going up, the entrance is sealed and cats cannot get inside. The clumps go through a larger holed strainer (so the cleaned litter stays at the bottom) before they are directed into a “mini sewage system” leading into the waste container when it moves down. 2. The clumps don’t get stuck to the bottom side. I think it’s made of a mix of a special fabric which is also scratch resistant. 3. The sealing is great and I have not seen litter getting into other places they shouldn’t be. 4. It takes about 1 minute and 40 seconds for a full cycle. Cat sensor LR cat sensor is mainly by weight (it measures the weight of the litter and if the cat gets in and there’s a sudden change of weight then it will activate). This could create many false positives as the cat only leaning but not getting in and not being as reliable as the infrared, thermal sensors and weight and other sensors of the PM. I feel the PM was a lot more reliable than the LR. Noise One of the main reasons why I did not like it the LR. It is very loud, even without counting the sound the litter and clumps make when the unit is shifting, you cannot sleep with it next to you. I left the LR in the corner of the other side of the room which and from my room which could be 8-9 meters away, we could clearly hear it cycling and don’t think it can be used at night time. With the PR, it is almost like whispering, we cannot even hear it from the other room being in the same place that the LR was. However, once the litter is added and there are clumps, I would say that none of then are suitable to sleep next to them however with the PM you could do it if left in the other room as I did. Odour control I genuinely don’t believe the waste container nor the carbon filters at the bottom of the LR makes any difference and it’s almost like a £30 hooded litter box. Like I mentioned earlier, the waste container of the LR is not fully sealed so odours will escape, I could easily smell it from far within 2-3 days (the odour can easily spread outside the room) and if you were to be next to it, it would be very noticeable. The PR has done a better job, the waste container fills better sealed and does not rely on carbon filters but on a deodorizing spray that it is applied after the cat has gone into the unit. I’ve tried testing the spray and I feel it does a great job, it doesn’t smell like chemicals but something more “natural” and the cats did not hate that smell. I have also stopped using it just to see how good the odour control is and I am very pleased, I did not need to empty the waste container even after 5 days and I expect to only do it every 2 weeks although I would be happy with 1 week. Litter type Both units recommend using clumping litter and LR recommend clay one. I don’t recommend using organic or corn based like World’s Best Cat Litter for the LR because it is incredibly dusty, it sticks to the bottom, it tracks everywhere and the smell is very bad. With PR however, it can be used with a mixed of litter but I have only used it with the Tofu organic plant based one supplied by PETKIT. So far I am very pleased with it, it offers a better odour control than any other type I’ve used (silica crystal, wood pellets, world best cat litter corn), it is dust free or what I would really rate as 99% free (and not like others where 99% means still tons of dust), it smells good new or being soiled, clumps fast, strong and works perfectly with the PM. It does track a bit, similar to a silica crystals but better than clay or organic corn from World’s Best Cat Litter. App, connectivity and function The LR has a very simple and limited function, for instance you cannot put a sleeping time longer or shorter than 8 hours, you cannot set a delay that isn’t 3, 7 or 15 minutes, you cannot have a manual mode (so it cleans at your command, for that you need to turn on and off the unit whenever the cat goes in and out) and it doesn’t provide as many functions or analytics than the PM one. LR’s interface is simpler but not better in my opinion. I did struggle a bit more connecting to it. The PM was a lot more straightforward and offers you many other options that the LR doesn’t with a slicker interface. None of them support 5 Ghz Wi-Fi at this point. Reliability and customer service My LR needed to has its base replaced (the main unit that houses the cat sensor) within a week or so of receiving it. I will no longer detect the cat, therefore it would still need to be manually operated as it wouldn’t connect to the Wi-Fi either. I am not sure if this was caused because I was turning it on and off to operate it as a manual mode or it was just with that defect. The newer base didn’t have that issue but it took me quite a lot of back and forth to have them agreed to send me the part, doing massive trouble shootings, recording videos, pictures, etc. Not a nice experience. In addition, I also have the impression that some things that should be well aligned aren’t… (when you pull out the waste drawer is not as neatly as it should be once closed) The PM just worked straight out of the box and have not had the chance to speak to their team but having bought these from Amazon I get double comfort from PETKIT team and Amazon. Price and value I paid circa £650 for the LR (£579) as in addition of the LR I bought the ramp (£50) and the anti-tracking fence (£25) however I feel that the ramp was a complete waste of money for a young kitten as they can easily get in and out and the fence… I think the fence did keep some tracking away however if one accessorize is that useful, maybe it should be by default and not an extra? The LR also came with a complimentary 2 waste liners. If you were to add the carbon filters (LR’s way to deodorize the unit) then you would need £30, another £25 for the full waste liners and £40 for the litter trap map. So basically you would need to pay an extra £120 for accessories that are essential for the LR (£170 with the ramp) while PM gives you them for free and included in the price. Total cost for LR £699 or £749 (with ramp) Total cost for PM £599 (with a 9% discount now so it’s £545) That’s almost £150-£200 of savings compared to LR. Conclusion Is an automatic self cleaning litter box worthy? Is the PM worthy? is £500-£600 a reasonable price to paid for an automatic litter box? Unfortunately we don’t have many choices and a new entrant could decide that you could get the same customer experience at £400 instead… and I do feel there’s a market for a mid-price above £150-200 and under £500 but at this point it doesn’t exist so given the current conditions I would definitely say yes. The way I think about it is whether I would do everything manually as if I was caring for a baby (feeding, cleaning, etc) or I can have a nanny (automatic or smart appliances to help with it?). A cat may use the litter box at least 4-5 times a day if you have one cat so double that if you have 2. For me, that time that is wasted doing repetitive things is gained for so it is definitely worth investing in a good automatic litter box that basically removes the scooping side of the equation and can do it in a quiet, inobtrusive, well designed way. I feel sorry for those who are still using the LR and think that it is the market leading automatic litter (it isn’t) and have not discovered the PM because it is honestly better in every single away, I cannot find anything that the LR can do better than the PM (perhaps the £50 price difference, although at the time I am writing this review there’s a 9% discount so it’s same priced as LR). As a matter of fact, I feel the PM is just the next generation of the LR and removes all the issues that the current LR has. There aren’t many good self-cleaning litter boxes in the market, even less at these price point of £500-600 and from the ones that there are, I genuinely believe the PETKIT PURA MAX is the best one. I hope this review was useful to you, please let me know if you have any specific questions.

This automatic litter box is superb!
I absolutely love this automatic litter box, it really hurts your back cleaning out a normal litter tray so to then purchase this one - I was blown away tbf. I have two cats (one large and one small) and our boy took to it straight away and the girl cat was a little weary for the first day or two but all is good, our boy cat is fascinated when the box cleans itself and he just sits and watches it go round. Its a good size box and there are no odours at all, I use corn clumping cat litter and it works superbly. It was easy to set up and has changed our lives to be honest, no more smells and scooping - it just gives you extra time not having to see to it all the time and be embarrassed when people came to visit because of the smell. I changed the waste compartment after about a week for two cats using it and our boy is like a cart horse, he is in and out of there all the time so not bad. You just open the compartment pull out the bag and pull the ties to seal the bag and throw it in the bin - just so easy. At the time of purchase it cost £499.00 so it does cost to buy the machine but you will get that back when you buy cat litter because you use less litter so will save money throughout the year. Deffo value for money, happy cats = happy owners. 10/10

Air Purifier Compatibility Not Clearly Disclosed
Overall, the PETKIT Pura Max 2 is a good and well-designed product. It works as expected and offers convenient features that make it easy to use and maintain. However, buyers should be aware that the air purifier does not fit properly with the standard side cover. The side cover is unable to securely hold the air purifier in place, which is frustrating. As a result, I now have to look for a different side cover to purchase separately, adding unexpected extra cost. This limitation should be clearly mentioned in the product advertising and description, as it may influence purchasing decisions. Transparency about compatibility would help customers avoid inconvenience after purchase.
