Too soon to say whether its cleaning inside as it suggests 4 oil changes to show the effect. But the oil definitely made the engine noticeably quieter, smoother, and reduced the fluctuating revs I had due to the sludge (which I am hoping to clean by this oil). So its definitely effective in getting control of the internal lubrication requirements.

The Valvoline Restore & Protect Full Synthetic 5W-30 has been one of the best motor oils I’ve used in a higher-mileage vehicle. After a few oil changes, the engine felt noticeably smoother and quieter, especially during cold starts. Throttle response improved slightly, and idle became more consistent as well. I used this oil in my snowblower and have been happy with the performance so far. This is the most amazing oil I have ever used. As a previous mechanic and current auto enthusiast, I am very picky about what I use in my vehicle. I tried this on a car I planned on trading in for about a year before getting rid of it and it really made a difference in quieting down the lifters and valve train. Looking internally to the engine I found that this does clean and dissolve varnish internally while also retaining its viscosity. I was impressed by the improvement in how smoothly it made that car run until trading it in. I've been using it in my new to me 20 year old used car I bought which has low mileage and runs great. Using this oil has only made it run better. Quieter, smoother, etc. I have used RP, Mobil 1, Pennzoil, and more. This one is my new number one that I plan on sticking with for the life of my vehicle.

The Valvoline R&P oils might be the very best oils on the market for late model engines. These oils have an incredible ability to clean piston ring lands(grooves). Owners that gone to extended oil change intervals and have experienced oil usage and blue smoke from the exhaust can solve this issue. This oil can clean the piston ring grooves and ‘restore’ the ring’s ability to seal the combustion chamber from the crankcase thereby actually STOPPING oil usage and the exhaust smoke. I wish Valvoline would extend this oil technology to 10w30 and 10w40 viscosities for use in mower engines.
