Grammar explanations are straightforward without being oversimplified, and dialogues reflect authentic workplace and social situations. Cultural notes are especially helpful, offering context that deepens understanding beyond vocabulary and sentence patterns. The structured progression builds confidence steadily, while review sections reinforce retention. Review: Excellent books, ruined by the robotic voiceover - I used to love watching anime as a child, and have previously used Explore to Win's books whilst learning French, so I was curious to see how their Japanese course was. The content is very detailed and thorough. The way certain end of chapter exercises are written, means they do not make much sense in audiobook form, for example the chapters based on the 3 different scripts used in Japanese writing, as you can not see them. Included with the audiobook, however, is a pdf copy of the books, so you can do those exercises on there and use the audiobook to learn the pronunciation at the same time. It would be useful if the audiobook pointed out which page to turn to, so that you could sync your learning and work on your reading and writing skills whilst also improving your listening skills. The one thing I disliked, was the voiceover. It was obvious that it was computer generated, using a word bank that I previous voiceactor had recorded. This was a shame, as the voice sounded jilted and unnatural, and it distracted me from what I should have been learning. It would be great if it could be re-recorded, using a human, so that the excellent content can shine. The videos were a nice extra, and built on the previous learning. The stories, however, again sounded very robotic, and made me want to switch off, which is a shame, as I'm sure the content was interesting and useful to learn from. Overall, I quite liked this resource and found it to be thorough and a very comprehensive learning tool. It's just a shame that the voiceover is so poor. If you recorded it again, with a human narrating, and pointing out which page listeners needed to go to find the corresponding exercises, then it would easily be one of the best beginners Japanese courses on the market. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A great way to learn Japanese!
Explore To Win wrote a great book on how to learn Japanese. There are 7 different books. The first one discusses how build a solid foundation on learning the basic scripts and vocabulary. The second is the practice workbook that allows you to work to learn more scripts and practice the vocabulary. The third book teaches about clear grammar and sentences. The 4th book teaches you about to expand your vocabulary with everyday words and phrases. The 5th book gets you ready for conversations with the world. The 6th book gives you fun narratives to practice. The 7th book gives you complex grammar and reading narratives to help with reading comprehension. I give this book a 5-star rating, and would recommend it to others when given the chance.

A good option to learn Japanese
I think this is a very good option to learn Japanese. It's complete and has a lot of material. I think it's convenient to those just starting to learn. It has a step by step structure that goes from basic writing to vocabulary and grammar. It has a good practise section that's very useful.

Don't waste your time
The book starts off by telling you to add it to your cart ... talk about attention to detail. At the end of the first chapter, they expect you to write kanji not even brought up. The section on hiragana is only 10 pages. I quit there. I bought Genki 1 and 2, it's arriving tomorrow. The "free audiobook" is only if you sign-up for audible with their affiliate link. The videos you can watch, are short and near pointless. This book was rushed. I wouldn't be surprised if it were generated or hired out to someone extremely cheap. Also, read some of the reviews and tell me they don't read like an advertisement. Something "smells fishy". All-in-all, I'll be learning hiragana and katakana first by practicing them daily. I'll pick up the kanji over time. I've skimmed this book and even where it mentions Japanese pitch, it's very short. You will not be speaking japanese in 30 days any better than loading a youtube video and mimicking it. Either that, or just copy Bleach. For anyone seriously wanting to learn japanese for something important, I'd pass this right up. I've quite a bit of time into pฤli and sanskrit. I may not be any good at japanese yet but, I've learned what makes a good book/system. This isn't it.
