I would guess since this isn't to be used or applied to anything living BUT to non-living furniture, it hasn't been tested on animals. It works pretty well on my 100 year old oak furniture. **Q: Can i use it on wooden serving spoons, etc and bowls without washing it off** A: Lemon oil is toxic.... Only use pharma grade Mineral Oil (get it at any pharmacy or Amazon) on any wooden surface that comes in contact with food. I was told this years ago when refinishing a wooden Butcher Block Table, and I spoke to butcher block Mfr. **Q: Does it contain any wax?** A: I do not believe it does contain wax. It cleans and is an oil but I don't think it has wax in it. It also does not say on the bottle. **Q: Does it leave a sheen? My table has a light lacquer finish and looks natural with no shine. I don't want it to shine.** A: It is an oil so it leaves a shine. I have never used it when it didn't make an old piece of furniture look better. I put it on, leave it overnight and wipe it down with a soft cloth. It also keeps old wood from drying out and splitting. I put it on the back of the furniture to see how it looks before using it on the whole thing. I highly recommend it.
