Stove-top safe. ● For first-time use, disassemble water tank, funnel filter and coffee collector pot, rinse with warm water and dry, reassemble and make a test batch according instructions below. (Throw away test batch, do not drink.) ● Use Instruction: ● 1. Fill the lower chamber with cold water just below the valve. ● 2. Insert the funnel and fill it with ground espresso (do not tamp). This one admittedly is cheaper - but it is very inferior in quality compared with the Stellar version. The lid had become detached in transit and the hinge pin absent, the thin sharp edged lid is poor as are the coffee measuring spoons (which are unnecessary anyway I suppose). Anyway it's going straight back because it looks and feels like trouble. It probably works fine because the base section looks robust and well manufactured. I'm sticking with Stellar, better value over two decades.
