More Bang For Your Buck
This HP EliteBook 8440P laptop was likely used by corporations back in the day. It's business class, and mine came with features beyond my needs such as a security card reader and a fingerprint scanner. I found out upon receiving mine from the great seller whose name I feature in my review's headline that the webcam is only optional, but I didn't mind not getting one since I wouldn't have used it anyway. At any rate, let me tell you what every HP 8440P should have that the average home user would enjoy: To the right of the power button are little button lights that toggle on/off things such as your default Web browser, the WiFi, sound to mute, and volume + or -, etc. And this laptop has both a thumbnail mouse with its left/right click buttons on the very nice keyboard, as well as a touchpad. Two microphones are at the top of the LCD on the left and right (tiny holes) and a push open/close keyboard light on the right center area, and the webcam with a little indicator light will be on the left center if yours comes with one.On the left base of the unit, there are three USB 2.0 ports to the right of a cooling vent, a 4-pin firewire, and a 54mm PCMCIA slot, which I inserted an old 34mm USB 3.0 card into and was able to get it working. There are el-cheapo 54mm USB 3.0 cards you may find here on Amazon, so that's definitely a plus thing to add. And the audio ports (mic and headphones) are below the PCMCIA slot.On the front base by the lid button is an SD card reader slot and two speakers, on the left and right. On the right base is that smart card reader I mentioned, an optical drive bay in which mine came with a DVDRW drive, an eSata port I plan on using to plug a matching hard drive into so I can clone my Windows 7 installation. My seller, by the way, provided a 1TB hard drive and 8GB of RAM with a Windows 10 upgrade installation, but I still run Windows 7 and did a fresh install and used the Windows 7 COA on the bottom of the unit. You may want to ask your potential seller about what OS is installed... but I digress. There is also a Gigabyte Ethernet network port and a modem port on the right.Last but not least, the bottom allows for two batteries!, a SIM slot?? (way above my retired pay grade to describe), vents, as well as easy access hard drive bay and memory module compartment.Overall, I'd say as a former corporate technical support technician that this is the best used laptop you can get in this current $200 price range. Some may find their units to be slow, but my seller did real justice selling it with the 8GB of RAM, which makes tooling around Windows and programs on this 2.4GHz system a decent experience for anyone with home user needs.Hope this helps!

Nice refurb from Klamp Electronics.
I purchased this laptop form Klamp Electronics and received it about a month ago. Here is what I found upon un-boxing. UPS left it on the porch without even knocking. The box was in pretty bad shape and I worried that the laptop would be damaged. The laptop was vacuumed sealed to a piece of cardboard a there was a nice amount of air gap between the laptop and the shipping box. The only shipping damage was on one corner of the display cover. This was no fault of the seller and it was so minor I am not going to worry about it on a refurb unit. One thing that I thought was strange was that the aluminum cover had a large sticker to cover scratches. The small ding from shipping made this peel up a bit so I just peeled the whole thing off. The scratches that this was hiding were so minor that I feel this was not really needed. It did show that the refurbisher was concerned with the cosmetics. There is a similar sticker on the mouse pad as well but I am leaving this for now.Other customers have noted that they received their unit with a "crooked " key or two on their keyboard. This unit had one like this, however, with a little manipulation, the key can be snapped back into place. Most keyboards are assembled this way. Look up "Keyboard key replacement" on YouTube and it will show how they assemble. I am attributing this also to the gorillas that are apparently working at UPS.Unit came with a charger and nothing else. Firing up the machine the only thing installed was Windows 7 which is fine by me. The registration key sticker on the bottom is correct and registration was easy. This unit didn't come with the fingerprint reader, (which I'm not sad about) but it did come with a 300 gig hard drive. Score!!I installed Firefox, Avast anti-virus, Open Office and the various video drivers as needed. For the past month it has been humming right along.Other than the ham hand galoots from UPS this buy has been a real pleasure. Good solid well built laptop. Nice display, I like the size, and sturdiness. I will be buying another one for another member of my immediate family soon.
