Addictive. Painful. Captivating. Tumultuous. Slip of the Tongue is an authentic, raw, and emotionally gripping read!!
This was my first Jessica Hawkins book and it was a heck of a ride. Can I just say HOLY ANGSTFEST?!WHOA! INDEED!So first things first, I should start with:1. There's a 95% chance that at some point while reading this novel you'll be MAD. **laughs**2. I LOVE weak willed characters who give into their base desires. Life isn't pretty. Sometimes things happen and you aren't as strong as you think. Often, people don't find out what they're made of until life has handed them a "rough" patch. I have EMPATHY--for those who are resolute in their moral high ground AND for those who aren't. I understand that people have moments of weakness that can be labeled as selfish. I get that for some there are simply no excuses that can make a betrayal okay. But, I also know that the heart isn't perfect. Sometimes it stutters and falters, sometimes it's suffocated by pain and rejection so thick, it's blinded and becomes lost.3. In a BOOK WORLD cheating doesn't bother me. AT ALL. I can understand it.4. If you hate heroines who think of themselves and their feelings, who aren't firm in what they want, then ... maybe go into this knowing that Sadie can be a little flaky at times. (AND PS: I LOVED THAT ABOUT HER)Now ... Seeing as that's out of the way, I'll move on! Cause... Holy moly! THIS BOOK ROCKED MY FACE OFF. I was raging and huffing and puffing and dying through most of this novel. You can just see it from status updates that ranged from ... "OMG. So many feels already. I mean, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Darn."To ..."OH :o :o !!!!! ***lets out an extended shudder*** OH FREAKING :o !"To ..."What an A__! Maybe I'm heartless. Maybe my soul's black and cold and icy, but I give zero $%#@ for this b__."To ..."OMG! I'm so mad, I'm RAGING right now. "When I'm ready." WHEN. I'M. READY. You know what, &%^$ YOU and your when I'm ready. ***tosses hands in the air*** ^%$^ THAT NOISE! Just don't. DON'T!"To ..."I'm seething with poisonous feels right now. SEETHING! ***just breathe, Angie! You cannot get inside your kindle and assault this fictional dirt bag!!!! BREATHE***"To ..."OH NO YOU DON'T! Take your sweet somewhere else! Pshhhhhhhh! Just NOPE! NO!! NOPE!!!! #HeartOfBlack"To ..."Oh sweet mother of hot-messes! :o :o :o THIS IS FREAKING JUICY! Like this is the juiciest, most intense story! Holy EEEEPPPP! :o this is going to p**s people off and I'm giddy over it. Hahahaha! Gawddddd!"LMFAO! And those were just some of my GR updates. They weren't even the notes I made on my kindle!!!! So yeah, you'll feel emotions ranging from pure heartache, to utter rage, to complete giddiness. This is a juicy read that spares no punches. Jessica's writing is solid. The characters are flawed, authentic, and compelling. Slip of the Tongue has it all, from erotic sex that makes you hot and bothered, to intimate moments that have you swooning, to the utter heartbreak of rejection, betrayal, and devastation. Nothing is glossed over, and it's as addictive as it is painful and thrilling!Sadie has it all, until one day her husband turns cold. As each day passes Nathan's retreat is a brutal wound being inflicted on Sadie's heart. After all it took her years to let Nate in, and now that she has, he's doing the one thing he promised he wouldn't, he's giving her space and withholding his love at every turn. It hurts, and to say Sadie feels alone is an understatement. The husband who adored her, can barely stand to be in the same room as she is. She deals with it as best as she can, trying to love Nathan through whatever is bothering him but the more she pushes, the more he shuts down.As Sadie navigates her quickly crumbling marriage, someone new moves in across the hall. Finn reminds Sadie of a 'warm' Nathan. He's funny. He listens to her, makes her feel special and leaves her at complete ease. Fresh on the heels of rejection, Sadie's lonely intensifies. Finn hones in on this. He recognizes this girl needs. And slowly a friendship forms. But Finn has his own secrets, his own complex issues. He feels something for Sadie that he can't yet explain.Gahhhh...So much happens.Between Finn and Sadie. Between Sadie and Nate. There are twists and turns you don't see coming. This novel is a whirlwind of feels that are wholly consuming. Once you start reading, be prepared to be owned. I guarantee you won't put it down until it's done.Addictive. Painful. Captivating. Tumultuous. Juicy. Sexy. Slip of the Tongue is an authentic, raw, and emotionally gripping must read that I just loved. A highly recommended favorite of mine.

Relatable read that will have you vowing to be different
Slip of the Tongue by Jessica Hawkins4 stars!!!āIām beginning to see that perfection is overrated.āThis was one of those frustrating reads for me, frustrating yet totally understandableā¦a bit of a contradiction you might say but what Jessica Hawkins delivered was an honest, relatable account of a typical married couple. A marriage is nothing without communication and for some reason it was this that became lacking for a couple that always had communication at the forefront of their relationship. It was this lack of communication that led to misunderstandings and a lot of mistakes. It was a tough read, my heart was in my mouth and at times I wanted to cringe but I could just see it happening to so many othersā¦albeit not as quickly.Sadie and Nathan were Mr & Mrs Perfect, they were the envy of all their friends having the perfect marriage, the perfect life, each had put the other on their perfect pedestal to cement their undying love and their perfect relationshipā¦until it wasnāt.āI will love you the same in the dark as I do in the light.āOne day Nathan stopped talking to his wife Sadie, they hardly communicated, hardly touched, hardly saw each other. This was going from living in the Sahara to living in the North Pole, from one extreme to another. Having promised to never shut the other out Sadie has no idea what has happened or what has changed. The signs all point to one thing but is that the case?Feeling lost and lonely and incredibly heartbroken Sadie is at a low ebb, until the man across the hall moves in and they start up a friendship, but will it lead to more?āHow do I tell the person I love most in the world that heās failing me? And that another man is making it better?āSadie and Nathan were incredibly frustrating, at times I wanted to scream and throw my kindle, it was exhausting!!! This was an emotional read but not just in a tear jerking sense but in that Iām married and I can totally relate to everything that is happening emotional state. I was reading and thinking at the same timeā¦I must communicate moreā¦I must communicate moreā¦. I must communicate more. I would never want to put my husband in a position whereby he felt I didnāt love him or want him, while reading I vowed to tell himā¦often.āThe man puts you on a effing pedestal. And you do the same to him. Itās about time you knocked each other off, because now youāre on the ground where you should be. And thatās the foundation you need to build on, not some lofty idea that you canāt be happy if you arenāt perfect.āIf you feel unloved and unwanted after having it all by the bucket load it would make you think the worst, I know I would and that is exactly the situation that Sadie finds herself in. But rather than attack the situation head on she just lets it get worse steadily over a few months, she sits and stews and wallows in self-pity. While I could relate to her feelings I did find her extremely selfish at times and it was this that made her hard to warm up to. For someone that had such a strong marriage I just felt that she gave up too easily and put herself in an even worse position even if it gave her the affection that she was desperately seeking.Nathan is just as much to blame in this clusterf**k of epic proportions, he has his reasons but the way they manifested in his actions were to the detriment of his marriage even more. As an outsider looking in it is easy to see the mistakes but surely even he could see that he was not helping the situation at all??āYou can close off your heart, but donāt forget ā I know how to tear you open. Iāve done it before, and Iāll do it again and again until you realize I will never, ever let you abandon me. And I will never, ever abandon you.āI have to say that the ending for me was a bit too convenient, I just couldnāt believe Nathanās actions. I wanted more at this junctureā¦more fight, it was all too quick and clean. However, this was a book that I couldnāt put down, it was entertaining, it was thought provoking and it was incredibly addictive.

Love Yourself
āļø for the authorOf her hard works to wrote this booksIām no two goodie shoes readerBut Sadie - girl please keep your hussy tight in a not , donāt deep in other man stick while you still married, have your own suspicions of your husbandI mean what in your right mind letting your secret lover making it dirty with you the just get on with your own husband , yes you still married with him ... even if you find him cheating with your own eyes - you should put yourself better than that , this day we called it ā LOVE YOURSELF āItās doesnāt means you should be selfish, NO - be kind to yourself by not degrading yourself in the name of lushBe selfish all you want but thereās boundaries you should not cross when you are dedicated yourself on married institutions or just a mutual relationships/ partnership, whatever you calledI found this book is degrading women in so many levelsAfter H find Sadie cheating on him because of her assumptions and H which doesnāt communicate well here is a little bit some conversation on the last few pages that giving a cherry on top of this book ( Iām happy thereās no epilogue for this one )H:āWhen youāre lost, donāt turn to someone else.ā āAnd donāt leave me out in the cold again.ā We stare at each other.I say, āI need your warmth, even when you donāt think you can give it to me. What do you need?ā ( this is from Sadie - yes the woman character which takes the whole book )Did you guys asked about the OM ????Well despite his handsome , greens eyes and letting his charming power making it dirty in the bioscoop and get caught , this Sadie left him high and driedShe is very sensible at the end - as thereās no herroine to name on this book after all is a special one star to read a character that monopolies the whole book and get her happy ending with no hard works at all just being her selfish self , so nope wouldnt recommend this book to my daughter if she grow up - I couldnāt say the same to my readers friends here , Iām happy that some of you really enjoyed this story

What a emotional rollercoaster!!!!!!
Oh my..... Where do I start. This book!!!!!!!! First of, if you love a book that gets you so invested in it emotionally that you forget to even move while reading and so have cramps all overš or if you love a book that makes you so crazy you want to go inside it and slap the characters than definitely hang on right for the ride. This was definitely a emotionally filled ride for me and the weird thing is not that I could at all relate to the situations or even the characters at all. But the book has me oh so engaged.Yes the situation is already known a little that Sadie gets lonely as her husband is getting distant from her with reasons unknown especially when they always had a perfect marriage and are considered the perfect couple but none of them are close to figuring it out. Enter handsome as hell and a person who is near and caring and genuine, Finn, he starts filling up the space for Sadie which Nathan made up. Honestly some of the intimate scenes are just HOT HOT DAMN!!!!!I really felt that Finn deserves to be happy even though he is flawed and makes mistakes. Nathan, yes he was at times so annoying and frustrating But he has definitely emerged out as my favorite in this book. He is just a selfless man who has a lot of love to give. Sadie on the other hand, I didn't like her that much. I wouldn't want to judge and all but her indecision and confusion was just frustrating at times. But I loved how the author has beautiful detailed out the characters, their painful mistakes. The writing is truly spectacular for making one want to love a book that makes you feel angry, hurt, sad and almost violent at one time. Now I'd like to read about Andrew and Amelia as they are strong personalities with partners who have left them.

Such an amazing story!
I've never read any of Jessica Hawkins' work before, and I'll admit that I went into this book with the mindset that I wasn't going to enjoy it. The reason being that the female character in the book is married and has an affair with her neighbor. Cheating is not something I personally I like to read about. The reason I chose to read Slip of the Tongue was because I'd heard a lot of fantastic things about this book from other readers, so I figured I'd give it a chance. I'm so glad that I decided to take that chance because I freaking LOVED this story!!!!I don't want to go into detail about the storyline because I know if I did it would without a doubt ruin it for other readers who have yet had the pleasure to experience Sadie, Finn and Nathan. All you really need to know, is that I loved it, which I did. A lot! :)I look forward to reading more from this very talented author. Thank you so much for such a beautifuly written, angsty, and very sexy reading experience Jessica!

Angsty page turner worth a read
Oh dear I hate cheaters but this book is so damn readable you have to keep going. Finn strikes me as an almost stalker but really his soul mate hasn't appeared yet.But the book, beautifully crafted, twisted and so much pain but it's not the affair it's the unspoken and avoided discussions that should of happened but never did. Once the dam was opened it all came out. So much pain on both sides that with a little understanding and discussion may have helped even though it was never the right time.Would love to see another book where these two are touched on just to see where they are.
