Strategies and Practice for the HSPT (Barron's Test Prep)

Last year my son used this HSPT practice test to familiarize himself with the kinds of questions that would be asked. Really every kid should be doing something like this before the test so that they will be able to complete the test in the appropriate time. My son's scores were so good he got a partial scholarship at the school he applied to.

My daughter applied to a private high school and for background purposes, I'll admit that she is very smart but also takes her studies very seriously. She knew there was a lot riding on this exam. I bought her this book to help her focus on the exam and she found the book to be amazing. It was easy to read, well structured and provided a lot of practice test examples. She went through the book about a week before the test and felt very confident taking the exam. She scored so well that she earned a full academic scholarship!!

I'm sure the book is fine. Getting your middle school kid to use it is another story.

This book is a must have for anyone preparing for the HSPT, definitely the best one out there. The book is very comprehensive and the author keeps it interesting, with a style that works for my twins as they prepare. I highly recommend.

My son wanted to apply to a specific Catholic high school, but we didn’t have the time to sign up for a formal class. We are not Catholic and his former schools were either public or Baptist—so he had no prior exposure to the test format.We purchased this book based on a Facebook group suggestion. In order to take full advantage of this resource, you must be diligent and encourage your student to study daily. Just like any other study guide, it’s only as helpful as the time you invest in the strategies. My child had 8 weeks to buckle down before the exam.My son ended up scoring above average in every category. Honestly, he enjoys math but to see that he earned 98th percentile was mind blowing. Wasn’t as impressed with his verbal battery, BUT he didn’t study that section as much as I encouraged—so can’t blame Barron’s for lack of student motivation.I gave the book 5/5. Son said the real test was harder than the study book’s practice exam, but that’s relatively speaking. He didn’t study the verbal section as I instructed. GREAT NEWS: He was accepted into the school and I totally believe that his HSPT score impacted his admission.

Great explanations and practice tests. My son is taking the exam in a few weeks. This review has helped him feel more comfortable with the way the exam is formatted and what to expect.Update: Got his HSPT results, 98 percentile. Would give this review book more than 5 stars if I could. It was much more helpful than any of the online review courses offered.

Great, comprehensive HSPT test prep book. I had ordered a different cheaper book first but it was missing content for an entire section of the test! I returned that and got this instead. So glad I did! The practice problems, explanations, and strategies really helped my son prepare. The two complete practice tests are must-dos and were great for helping him feel comfortable.

My husband is a tutor from kindergarten to college and teaches Physics and Calculus. All he said was it was perfect.
