Wray and Nephew Rum 70 cl, 63% vol - White Overproof Jamaica Rum

I like to try something new and a 63% abv white rum is definitely different.I like my navy proof rum and drinking alcohol this strength requires a mixer, or at least water.Flavour is clean and surprisingly good. It's sweet with hints of Banana. By far the best white rum i have had in a very long time. This would be ideal for cocktails due to the strength of it.but even with water it's very tasty.Good quality, better value when on sale. Highly recommended. Thank you for reading my review. Well as an avid rum drinker and a Jamaician i must say this purchase has to get a 5, the taste is an acquired taste, will warm you up as it goes down.Perfect with Apple juice or a redbull or if you can manage straight

Not really a white rum man in the slightest, so take this as the word of an "outsider" as this was purchased as a gift.Whoa! This really does have a kick to it.Yes, I know it's north of 60% but even then it takes a lot of diluting to the point where it doesn't pop your eyes.I can drink Southern Comfort 100% Proof (50% volume) neat, but this is borderline dangerous and the restricter in the bottle neck probably is a safety feature to stop people from taking a big swig straight from the bottle.The nose is typical white rum petrochemical, as is the first taste, but this is swiftly followed by rubber, with a finish of smokey bananas and it certainly offers more complexity than other rums I've tried.I wouldn't place it up against a good whisky in the complex flavours stakes but it's quite different to the cheap lighter fluid and that's yer lot of Bacardi.Would I recommend it?Well certainly I wouldn't buy it for myself, but if you think Bacardi makes for a good mixer then I'd definitely say give this one a try as it's a much more interesting drop and it's not priced too highly for what is a slightly more niche product.Just exercise caution if you're not used to VERY strong alcohol.
