Punky Colour Flamingo Pink Semi Permanent Hair Color – Vibrant Pink Hair Dye, Vegan & Cruelty-Free Conditioning Formula, Lasts Up to 35 Washes, 3.5 fl oz

I’ve been using punky color for the past 3 years and it is by far my favorite brand! Started dying my hair fantasy colors after becoming disabled, (since I no longer had a dress code to follow for work) and soon my friends and family had me doing theirs, too! It’s comparable to lime crime’s unicorn hair or overtone (which I’ve also used) but WAY cheaper, which allows me to change or maintain colors even on a very tight budget. I’ve used violet, purple, plum, fire, flame, vermillion red, flamingo, turquoise, bright yellow, and spring green. The reds tend to stain a lot and fade fast (as any red is prone to do), but the purples, greens, turquoise, flamingo, and yellow all last SO long. They’re so highly pigmented that I mix them with white conditioner to dilute them for a more pastel look, and they still come out bright and beautiful and fade gracefully. My favorite conditioner to use has been Sally’s jojoba oil moisturizing treatment with biotin and silk (recommended by an employee there), but I’ve used plain old suave and still had great results. I will usually leave this on for several hours or overnight in a shower cap. Since there’s no harsh chemicals or ammonia it does not damage hair and ends up feeling like a conditioning mask when rinsed. I think it smells great! My husband doesn’t like the smell but says it’s way better than boxed dye. It can stain your scalp and tub (some colors are worse than others). I recommend using vasoline around your hairline and ears (and removing any dye that found its way to these areas immediately after the application process before putting on a shower cap) and a good bleach based cleaner will take shower/tub stains right off as long as you use them right after rinsing (I’ve even had success doing this with just Clorox wipes). I’ve also used punky’s 3-in-1 shampoo to maintain purple and really liked the results. Pictures are of my latest work, using spring green and bright yellow (diluted 1:1 with Sally’s jojoba moisturizing treatment) and its still SO bright! Also included pictures using flamingo pink and turquoise (heavily diluted) on both me and my sister. The pink and turquoise mixed together make a beautiful purple shade, too! All pictures are diluted and applied to bleached hair, but I have also used this full-strength on virgin hair (natural blonde, dark blonde, and light brown) with great results! Keep in mind that on unbleached hair, it will not show up as bright or last as long, though. Colors will fade the quickest from any part that is exposed to sunlight (or excessive touching like bangs/around face). Hot water and frequent washing will also accelerate the fading process, so I use dry shampoo between washes, usually only wash 1-2x/week, use cold water on my hair, and also use a sulfate free shampoo & conditioner that is designed for maintaining colored hair. Everywhere I go, someone asks me about my hair... I swear, punky should be paying me for how often I recommend them! 😜

First, I really want to emphasis these bottles DO in fact have instructions. They are located under the label, which peels back (kind of like how some otc medicine has a peeling label for more info, look for the "product details" triangle on the label peel back there). For these bought on amazon sometimes there might be sticker hindering this, instructions are 100% present. For those wanting to know, the instructions says to apply to clean dry hair (just shampoo, do not condition hair), comb through hair, let sit 15 - 30 minutes, rinse with cool water until it runs clear. (bare bones instructions) Here is what I do. Wash with just shampoo, no conditioner, let air dry, it needs to be be 100% dry. I put Flamingo pink color, with a dash of purple into a NON metallic bowl (glass is fine, absolutely no metal though, don't mix with a metal utensil either) I then dump a good amount (about a 2(color):1(conditioner) ratio maybe slightly more conditioner, honestly I eyeball it, this does not change the color intensity for me ) of conditioner in and mix thoroughly (any bare bones conditioner, white, no oils or other actives, just something inexpensive, regular and not fancy) I then apply to hair, sectioned into fourths, I start at the ends and work my way up combing as I go along, I just slap it on with gloved hands, it makes a mess (even with naturally light blonde hair, I still bleach it cause I want the color to pop). I Then let this sit overnight... yes I sleep with the color in, I put cling wrap over as best I can, and then find my trusty old hoodie and sleep with the color in. I rinse next morning with cool water, until it runs clear. (I wear gloves when I rinse out, once majority is out I remove gloves) Things that have NEVER happened -Stained clothing/bedding - with the exception being the hoodie I use overnight, but even then most of it washed out, and what was left never transfers. -stained my skin - even if I get it all over me, it comes off, some areas need a little more help, But none of my skin stays pink for long. - had colored sweat drip my face - I sweat a lot also, especially my scalp, if I wipe the sweat away with a paper towel it does have a pink tint, but you can only see that tint after wiping. It all comes off. This is unavoidable, if you sweat, some color will come off, it really isn't that bad though. I've seen people use other brands where they sweat and there's just a stream of color coming off. -stained the bathtub permanently - not gonna lie, tub is pink after rinsing, I kneel in the tub and use a hand wand to get the initial amount out, before standing, helps splatter, easier to clean. but tub still has pink all over it. A quick spray of a bleach based cleaner let sit the rinse, it should all be gone. I got in the habit of doing a bleach spray down after showering every time. The longest I have gone, without having to do touch up is 5 months (possibly six). I uploaded photos, hoodie photo - the hoodie I use to sleep when leaving in over night, it took a second to even get the stain to show up, but picture this - the entire inside of that hood was covered multiple times (at least 5 - 6 sleeps with color in, and then I'm lazy and wash it seperately, the hoodie would sit for weeks before being washed. If i really try I could probably get that stain out also. I've never had trouble removing this color either, I can get it all out, not even a hint left behind. I use a mix of 20 volume developer, baking soda, and conditioner This is good point to say I'm a licensed Cosmetologist, and I experiment with my hair a lot. things I recommend Not to do when your hair is a vibrant bright color -don't wear white shirts - the color will transfer and people will see it. with punky color don't worry it will wash out. I've had color transfer very lightly before and it always washes out. (unlike another well known brand that ruined my favorite pillowcase in high-school along with multiple articles of clothing, still bitter about that, still avoid that brand) I love Punky Colour, it has been my go to since 2000, 25 years (that says a lot) Something I really like. Punky Colour, the colors mix really well, you can truly get the color and hue you want with this brand. I add some purple to get a more fuchsia color, it works every time, the purple does tend to wash out first, as even though the colors mix to make a new color, the individual colors wash out at the rate they would have had you done that color alone, and purple always washes away quickly for me. The scent of these is great, no chemical smell, reminds me of artificial grape. The scent sticks around in the hair for a bit, usually takes me 2 washes before it doesn't smell like the color anymore, But i personally really like the scent it's a nostalgic scent for me now. consistency is thick, so it stays put when on hair, it won't be dripping down. The straight color (with no conditioner added) can hurt a bit, it'll pull the hair as you apply it, as it doesn't have much slip to it. (especially since you apply this to clean dry shampooed only hair) I have just below shoulder length hair (lets call it 20 inches from root to tip), and a lot of it. With conditioner added I need 1.5 jars to fully coat my hair properly. Does not damage or dry out you hair. It will leave your hair in really good condition as the color it self is slightly moisturizing/conditioning. After rinsing hair is soft and manageable. (will do nothing for frizz though), if bleaching before using, making sure you follow up after rinsing color out with a really nice color safe hair treatment/conditioner. Above all, have fun doing it and rock that beautiful vibrant color!

I purchased 4 of these from this Amazon seller "BYPLE", I recommend them! This seller has the cheapest rates in town for this product, believe me I know since I use it often. I have tried many other brands and I stick with this one. Jerome Russell Punky Colour is super vibrant and long lasting! I have tried Special Effects before and it is long lasting and bright however, Jerome Russell does the same thing for half the cost! Plus I enjoy custom mixing my own pinks using a tad of blue or purple (for a cooler toned pink, I strongly dislike warm toned pink.) Flamingo Pink by Punky Color needs toning with a pat of blue or purple. The result is a bright shocking Magenta! Love it, if mixed right it blows Special Effects Atomic Pink out of the water. PLUS, this product smells like grape kool-aid soda :D AND did you know that you may do custom colors with these?! Say you cannot find the perfect purple or the perfect blue, what not.. well, I often create hybrid colors by mixing anywhere from 2-3 different Punky Colour dyes then store them for future use under the cabinet. Example being: Say I want a cool-toned pink? I'd mix 90% Flamingo Pink and add in a half spoon of Violet! Beautiful and gorgeous :) Or I mix Atlantic blue with Spring Green and come out with a beautiful sea-green! LOVE :) *Word to the wise, never mix greens with pink, purple, orange, or red! And never mix blues with orange or red! Anyhow, if you buy this product you will get your moneys worth. It is super vibrant, in fact, is so vibrant that you can dilute it for applying if you have more porous hair (as a result of several bleachings which are necessary to attain platinum hair.) Speaking of bleaching.. you MUST pre-lighten your hair several shades (if you are naturally dark) for this dye to take hold and fill your hair cuticle. That is how you get a very vibrant color-true shade from this dye. I highly recommend and cannot say enough good things about this bleach: Schwarzkopf Igora Vario Blond Plus Blue Dust-Free Bleach (Available here on Amazon) It has never broken my hair off, burnt it, or burnt my scalp. And as my hair is naturally dark brown, this bleach has always provided the most rapid lifting, in several levels, that I have ever achieved at home. That being said on to some more information which I hope you will find useful. If you are interested in diluting this product as I do then here is my diluting recipe and tips and tricks that work for me! Tools: 1.) Get a value package of vinyl gloves. Never mind buying them by the set at the beauty supply per hair coloring, way too expensive in the long run. A lady ALWAYS needs gloves on hand. You'll thank yourself for it whenever the hair coloring fancy strikes!) 2.) DOLLAR STORE: Buy a box of plastic spoons & forks, great for mixing and disposable. 3.) DOLLAR STORE: Buy a 2-4 count set of "tupperware" type bowls with lids - these you can use to mix your color then store under the bathroom cabinet for future use. My diluting Recipe: 80% Conditioner (Cheap one such as White Rain!) I use the Coconut scent as it makes your hair smell divine! 20% Jerome Russell Punky Colour (1 good teaspoon will do it.) Mix well to blend it completely, scrape the bottom of the bowl and sides to ensure that it is all blended evenly. Apply! *** You can control the amount of hair dye ratio to suit your needs, such a lower amount for Pastel Hair, or a higher amount for brighter hair. I never put it on full strength because it wastes product as far as I am concerned and PLUS I do not want to be stuck with the same hair color for months. Want to keep it bright and vibrant? Here is how: DO NOT use harsh shampoos at ANY TIME or shampoo often. Get yourself some "Dry Shampoo" to control the oily roots only, it will freshen them and leave your hair smelling great after absorbing the oils. Use a shampoo which is SULFATE-FREE only. The vegan section of the grocery store should have a reasonably priced one or you can opt for purchasing a more pricey salon product. Don't like it? Here is how to remove: I have very porous hair so it "grabs" color easily and sometimes it does not want to let go! When I want it out the first steps that I take are using 'Head & Shoulders shampoo'. This stuff will really fade it quick within a few washes. You can't just massage it into your head and expect it to work though. You have to massage it well through your lengths by rubbing the lathered hair between your hands from top to bottom, one section at a time. Then you will see lots of dye rinse down the drain. Once I have it faded I then take a plastic mixing bowl and mix up either an entire packet or a full scoop (depending on which bleach you have on hand, a pre-measured packet or a canister) of hair bleach with a 30 or 40 VOL Creme Developer FIRST, blend and allow to sit for several minutes to activate, and then I add in several squirts of any shampoo - which for those who don't know - this is called a "Soap Cap" I apply this to my entire head (wet or dry) and massage quickly then let it sit for about 2 minutes or slightly longer. Usually before I even have a chance to finish getting all my hair covered with this mixture I can see the color just disappearing instantly! SO the same may be true for you and if it is WORK FAST to apply it. There is no need to keep bleach, even diluted bleach, on your hair for more time than it needs to be, specially if it is already damaged. Mine is damaged however these soap caps never hurt it :) Follow with a nice conditioner! Not something cheap. I love Hayashi 911 Emergency Pak Re-constructor. It cost's about 33 bucks for 33 ounces here on Amazon. I Squeeze the excess water out of my hair with my hands and then apply this conditioner, clip my hair up and cover my head with a plastic cap (you can use saran wrap also! or even a plastic grocery bag) and leave it on for at least an hour. It is truly a moisture quench for parched hair! AND THE SMELL IS DIVINE! ***About using soap caps for removing alternative colors: Soap Caps work best on faded Pink, Yellow, Orange, Purple dyes. They are pretty much instantly wiped out. Colors I have found which don't need to be faded first to be successfully stripped out quickly are: Pink Yellow Colors which I have found are super stubborn to remove with either Head & Shoulders or Soap Caps are: BLUE Colors which I have found to need substantial fading to be removed easily: Purple Green I love blue and purple but they are tenacious, especially blue. At least for my hair. I hope this review might help out some newbies! Please remember that ALL hair is different and dyes and removal processes are highly subjective to each individual! The above tactics just happen to work great for my hair so I thought I'd share.

I Love, love love this product! Every, one I've bought has the incredible scent of grapes, like candy grapes! My go to is Flamingo Pink. It is very potent and a little goes a long way. It stains, but if you use bleach cleaner wherever you are dying your hair it should come out. You def. NEED GLOVES! I always put petroleum jelly on the parts I don't want the dye to go. I usually color my naturalish color first and then do the punky color. It's so bold and statement fulfilling. It's a smaller jar, but Ulta doesnt sell it in my area anymore, so I get mine off here. The last 5 times. Did I mention a little goes a long way and it smells like candy grapes? Anyway. Buy it.

Let's start with the pros - this hair color is temporary, hasn't caused any problems for my hair (and I've been using it for about 3 years), is easy to apply with a brush, and produces fairly good results. It's very reasonably priced, and this little pot will last for many months, even with frequent hair washings. There's an extensive range of colors, and you can control the shade you get by varying the length of time you leave it in your hair before rinsing. The cons - if you want complete coverage, you will probably need some assistance (preferably from someone with a bit of skill), it can be messy (those drips and spills will leave permanent stains), and because it's applied with a brush it's not as easy as shampoo-in products. And it begins to fade with the first washing, so if your hair requires frequent washing, you will lose most of your color within a couple of weeks. And the color saturation definitely varies from person to person. My natural hair color is very pale blonde, and if I wanted that shocking pink shown on the label, I'd have to leave the product in my hair for at least 30 - 40 minutes before rinsing. Makes me wonder how long a brunette would have to leave it in... I have found that the easiest way to use this product is to go for a streaky look; that way, as it fades, the color will still look intentional. Even though I can't give this product an unqualified 5-star rating, I do like it, and I will continue to use it.

Grandson loves some pink in his hair. This works well. Doesn’t take long to apply and get good color. Last for several washes. Great price & since this was my first time to try this, I read lots of reviews. Seems great to me!

Imo this is the BEST semi permanent color on the market. Ive tried all of the popular brands, manic panic, arctic fox, etc and they all tend to wash out completely, ie back to blonde, within about 1 week. Punky color typically lasts me about 6 weeks. For reference, I have baby fine hair, naturally medium brown, I bleach with 30 vol developer first and then apply punky color (pink flamingo) and let sit for 30 mins before rinsing. I typically wash my hair about 3 times a week, I dont use color safe shampoo. I only do my bangs, and a tub of this color has lasted almost a year. I have let it sit for only 5 minutes or so, and still, the color lasted about 3 weeks. If its not lasting for others, they may not be super familiar with how to make semi permanent colors stay put (such as cold water washes, a long soak application, ensuring the hair is bleached prior to application). This product is amazing, affordable, smells great, long lasting, and ive been using it since at least 2021. Also I have very pink skin, and orangy pinks wash me out, this one is the perfect purple based pink! Photos below are 2/15/26 right after a fresh application and 4/1/26 when its mostly washed out.

I'm a huge fan of Jerome Russell's punky hair color. If I ever want shockingly bright locks, I will totally use it. Currently, my expertise is limited to coloring our mini horse, Fred's, mane and tail. Jerome Russell's hair dye is very mild and is super easy to use. I usually put some gloves on my kids and let them "paint" Fred's hair. It's never caused a reaction when it gets on our skin. Fred's lot in life went from being neglected in Baltimore City to living on a 185 acre horse farm. However, this trade off came with the price of sporting some pretty girly hair colors. Naturally, Fred has the self confidence to pull off wearing pink, rainbow, and just about any color hair we put on him. Mostly because my 6 year old loves pink. And because it makes me smile to look out the window and see him with his colorful hair. And because.... well, why not? It's fun. He could care less, and when I take him to the local elementary school the kids all love it. Perhaps when my 3 year old son has more opinions, Fred may sport more manly locks -- perhaps blue? maybe green? In any case, Fred's natural locks are featured in one pic to give you an idea of how the color works with his hair. I have been guilty of lightening Fred's hair just a tad to help the color last a little longer. We're careful not to get it directly on his skin (luckily his hair is really thick - so it would take a lot of effort to work it down to sit on his skin) -- however, I've gotten in on my hands and have never reacted to it. The smell is very mild as well. Since Fred does get rained on, it's hard to gauge exactly how long it stays in - really bright for 2 - 3 weeks, then fades slowly over time. I last dyed his hair at the end of October. As of Dec. 19, the top layer is completely washed out, but the under layers are still shockingly bright and colorful. The bright pinks seem to last longer than some of the other colors (blue, green, yellow) - but that's just my anecdotal experience from dyeing this pony's hair 2 or 3 times a year for the last 3 years or so. The only negative is that I can't buy bigger containers of this dye. It does take 4 - 5 containers to really get all of Fred's hair done - but the result is priceless!

FINALLY! found the perfect hot pink. it has a blue undertone which is really flattering and cancels out any brassiness from bleached hair. it even smells good; like grape jelly! it does stain, so wear gloves and apply petroleum jelly around your ears, on your forehead and neck. i didn’t and the colour took a couple of days to wash off of my hands. apart from that, the colour is very pigmented so dilute with conditioner or don’t, according to your needs. i mixed with a bit of conditioner (i recommend doing this) for better mixing and application. overall, really happy with this brand. it’s affordable and great.

Very bright in my silver grey hair. Doesn’t wash out for a very long time (although it does fade) so don’t expect this to be temporary.

Smells like chewing gum, has great staying power.
