The pointy kind. I solder really small wires to really small pads or holes on pcbs or printed circuit boards. The small pointy tip is ideal when you want heat transfer to a very small area only. Soldering on circuit boards means you must not transfer heat to ANYTHING other than the joint to be soldered. Otherwise you can accidentally unsolder something else. There is a “deluxe” version that comes with like 12 or 16 other tips of various shapes and sizes to cover a wide range of heat transfer options. Hope that helps. **Q: What is the power output from the power supply? What’s the maximum temperature with the power supply?** A: To get the max potential output. I strongly recommend you get the 24v 3amp power supply. Otherwise you'll just run into problem that it's not getting up to temperature fast enough. The cable is detachable, connecting via usb-c at the back of the iron. It does appear to be silicone, but i'm not willing to put it to a test! Add to that the ability to run from a battery and customize-able firmware make this a versatile and "geek friendly" tool. My only big complaint is that the handle is small and slippery with no collar between it and the hot parts. Also, because there is no collar on the handle, this soldering iron doesn't work well with most iron holders designed for more traditionally sized soldering tools.
