I loved this story as a kid and re-reading it as an adult its a really odd story. The children's mother lets her daughters sleep rough in the forest? Her cottage has top of the range flooring and the best of everything?! She lets her kids hang out with a bear who turns into a prince, this prince is wearing high heels and a blonde wig?!! She lets her daughter marry the Prince!!!Very impressive paintings to illustrate this story still impress 20 years on from first reading it. Very odd but highly recommended.

Fabulous book, the exact same version as I had as a child and bought it in a reminiscent moment! Lovely fairy story, wonderful traditional Ladybird colour drawings to illustrate the story. Just great to have it back again after losing my childhood copy and the family enjoyed having it read to them.

This was bought knowing that it was very worn and torn but it was a little disappointing as it was for a gift. All tha same lovely classic story.

Perfect and as described.

Although some of the poses of the figures in the pictures look a tad unnatural and the perspective is sometimes a little skewed, this is one of the great Ladybird 'well-loved tales' books and made a great gift for my partner. It's also a great tale with some odd things that happen that are only tangential to the plot but that set up a feeling of magic and mystery over the story. Fab.

So happy to find this. I have been looking for this book since I had children, it was a book my mother read to my sister and myself and means a lot to me since she passed thank you.

Stunning book just as I remembered as a child.the illustrations and fabulous story.brought me back to my childhood.so enjoyable.
