Reliable video door camera
Really impressed with this doorbell camera. The video quality is clear, the setup was straightforward, and the battery life has been good so far. The app is easy to use, and I like being able to check what's happening at the door when I'm not nearby. A great upgrade for added security and peace of mind.

Amazing 2K doorbell
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely love this doorbell — it’s incredible! The Tapo D235 2K 5MP Wireless Doorbell Camera has completely exceeded my expectations and is far better than my previous Ring doorbell. I’ve now switched fully to the Tapo range, and this doorbell just confirms why — no more monthly subscriptions and a much better experience overall. The picture quality is outstanding — true 2K clarity that’s a big step up from the 1080p Ring I used to have. The wide 180° field of view captures everything clearly, and the built-in light highlights the doorbell perfectly, making it easy for visitors to see even in the dark. I also love the fact that it’s wired with a battery backup and has an SD card slot in the rear, so even if the Wi-Fi or internet goes down, it still records locally — something many other models don’t offer. The AI detection is spot-on too, accurately distinguishing between people, animals, and vehicles so you only get relevant alerts. The setup was simple, the app is intuitive, and the overall build quality feels solid and premium. For the price, this is a brilliant bit of kit — reliable, smart, and subscription-free. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase — excellent product and a huge upgrade over Ring. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a high-quality, hassle-free smart doorbell

Excellent subscription free battery doorbell
I’ve been using the Tapo D235 2K 5MP Video Doorbell for a few weeks now and I’m genuinely impressed. The 180° ultra-wide head-to-toe view is one of the best features — I can clearly see faces and packages left on the ground without any blind spots. The 2K 5MP resolution is crisp and sharp, both during the day and at night. Setup was quick and easy using the Tapo app. I chose the wireless battery option and the 210-day battery life has been holding up extremely well. It also came with the Ring Chime included, which is a nice touch. I love that there’s no monthly fee and the free AI detection accurately notifies me about people, packages, and vehicles. The two-way audio works great (I’ve had clear conversations with delivery drivers), and it integrates perfectly with my Alexa Echo Show — I can just say “Alexa, show me the front door” and it pops right up. No subscription cost if you put a micro SD card in . I personally would buy a endurance rated as card. Weather hasn’t been an issue either thanks to the IP66 rating. Overall, this is a fantastic, affordable alternative to more expensive brands. If you want reliable performance, excellent video quality, and zero subscription costs, I highly recommend the Tapo D235! Would definitely buy again

Great Doorbell
I had been comparing many doorbells and found this Tapo D235 doorbell which after a recommendation of tapo doorbells from a CCTV security company, having owned a previous indoor tapo camera and noting this doorbell can be powered from existing doorbell wiring, I decided to buy it. In the box comes the doorbell itself, a chime, 2 types of wedges and backing plate, charging cable, jumper cable to bypass the existing chime, wired to extend the doorbell wiring, adhesive strip screws and installation guide. Installing the doorbell can either be stuck to the wall using the supplied adhesive strip or in my case drilling holes and screwing in the back plate and wedge (optional). The doorbell then clicks onto the back plate. Before touching any wiring the doorbell needed to be switched off at the circuit breaker. Once the back plate was fixed on to the wall I connected the 2 existing doorbell wires to the 2 screw points at the bottom rear of the doorbell. Next I had to bypass the existing chime as I wanted to power the doorbell from the existing wiring. This was a bit tricky as the wiring for my chime didn't look like the guidance from tapo. After as few tries it was up and working and the tapo app does tell you if it is actively being powered from the hard wiring or the battery. The app is useful as it guides you through this setup and once done helps you configure the doorbell itself. Operating the doorbell over the last week I've found the doorbell was highlighting motion outside of the boundary areas I setup. What mostly fixed this had been reducing the sensitivity of this event type and found you can re-assign events it's found to re-train the doorbell AI. Other than that I've also managed to connect my Google mini and other phones to receive notifications from the doorbell. Note the Google mini also sounds the chime. The video quality both day and night is good and I can make out people, cars etc clearly. Few things to watch out for. The battery is internal and cannot be replaced like other tapo models. If hard wiring check your chime and online YouTube videos to see if you'll come across any issues. If you need extra chimes currently you cannot buy any and it's not clear the tapo hub which has a chime supports this doorbell. The doorbell needs a stable WiFi connection as my mobile 5G router didn't work well with it but the broadband one did. Overall I'm happy with the doorbell and would recommend it.

Updated DO NOT BUY.
I got this one to replace the d21 I am returning as it simply missed quite a few events, identified a small garden water feature as a person, failed to catch postie, failed to catch several people we saw by our gate. so given that the much cheaper d21 is every bit a not so good as this one, I am returning the tapo d235 and getting another which hopefully will put and end to this, 3 doorbells have failed here, 2 of the them tapo. I am going to order another one and if equally as bad then it's very much the brand knocking out inferior products which I find hard to accept given all the positive reviews this model has had, fingers crossed the replacement is as good as everyone says it is, and if it is I shall come back and alter this review. Update, the new one is a country mile better than the one they sent out claiming it was a "Black Friday Deal" from where I am sitting it was a "get rid of the crap stock deal and lets pretend they are getting a bargain deal" this one cost me almost £30 more than the "black Friday" one, is it worth it? not sure but be wary of any alleged deals. Overall I am happy with the camera after comparing it for 3 hours to the previous one and so far doing what it should do. Update 4th Jan 2026, the doorbell is proving to be just as useless as the previous one, not picking up motion, people walking down the path, missing events entrirely, so now it is being returned an BE WARNED, we the customers here at Amazon will have to PAY to send faulty goods back, no free Amazon return unlike the black friday sale one which was picked up by the postman the next day free of charge. I WILL NEVER buy this brand again nor will I deal with this seller again. this review was originally 3 stars to give the benefit of the doubt over a faulty previous one, this now is an accurate review of what to expect.

Thank you, Tapo, for creating the best doorbell camera.
The doorbell I had before was okay, but the app was hard to understand, and a lot of times it failed to ring or send phone notifications. Since I installed this one, I have no complaints. Image quality is really good, and that includes the night vision. The app works without any issues, and it sends a notification to your phone immediately. It was easy to install, and the battery lasts a long time if you intend to use it on its own.

No subscription charge, comprehensive installation instructions, good camera, reasonable price.
Quick set up guide is clear and straight forward. Before installing any brackets, etc you have to charge it for 6 hours using the special C connecter- you need an adapter plug - not supplied. I looked at several battery doorbell products before I decided on this one- it has 2 advantages over the rest. 1. The installation bracket is only 5cm wide - just enough to fit on my wooden doorframe without sticking out. 2. No monthly subscription- except for the One off yearly subscription offered by Tapo - but it's not mandatory like similar products and you can always cancel it at any time. Once you have synced the doorbell and chime to your home WiFi - look at the back of your sky router, installation is straight forward providing you are careful at placing the 3M sticky template supplied- best to dry fit it first then stick to template. I didn't use the wedge templates supplied as the depth of the doorbell unit + template thickness was enough to make the wide angle camera lens stand proud of the neighbouring brickwork. You can set various bell tones on the chime by pressing a button on the side. When the chime is synced with the doorbell the red light goes green permanently. If you subscribe to the cloud you get instant video storage on your synced phone which you can back check. All in all a well though out product and at a reasonable price for the amount of installation prices in the box. Only negative is the night camera is in black and white but the picture is sharp as are the recorded videos. No warning sticker for visitors in the box? Perhaps it's not mandatory in the UK. Remember to set the anti- theft button on the Tapo app and switch it on - button on back of doorbell before you click it into place on the bracket - secured with two wood screws after sticking to doorframe. Review update: if you have recently had a sky router update you will have changed your WiFi settings. The doorbell will now not work even if you reset it- flashes red - it's searching for your new network. After much searching I found the answer. If you have an Internet TV eg Samsung like me, switch it on,press the source button on the remote, sky, home, settings, status, network connection, network setup, advanced settings, check that your 'WiFi hotspots' is set to 'on' and press ' return' . This enables your router to connect to all devices within the house which will include your red flashing tapo doorbell! It will respond with ' doorbell connected' and will flash red and green alternatively to show a connection. Took a bit of thinking out but doorbell works fine now. Hope this helps for those of you who've recently changed their WiFi settings.

Fanatic, love this
I've had this now for a couple of days and it's a brilliant device, larger than an average video doorbell but it's easy to set up you just download the app and follow the steps. The image is very clear both day and night, I've watched it through heavy rain as well now. You can either hard wire it or leave it wireless. The battery isn't removable but you just remove the device from the wall bracket to charge it, I charged it to 100% before I installed it, you may need to do a full charge once a month so you can leave that on charge overnight and then slot it back into the wall bracket in the morning. It's hard to remove it from the wall bracket but I'm not bothered about that because it means it's staying in place whilst it's mounted. You remove it by inserting a small pin, much like removing a SIM card from a phone, that takes some pressure to push the pin in but it does come lose, it slots back in easy though. You can either use it as an Intercom style where you just talk through the doorbell and and when someone comes and not have it record but have live footage, you can set up a cloud storage that's less than £30 a year, or you can buy an SD memory card that will record and save it on there. To use it as the intercom style the app allows you to record and screen shot interactions very easily and it will save to your device so then it's not recording everything coming past your house, or you can set up the cloud storage that it's constantly recording or you can set it up for motioned sensor and person detection. All of this is the same easy set up and options on the app are as easy as following phone settings so it won't take long to figure out. The audio is clear, don't worry if you try the audio out in your house first and it echos, that doesn't happen once it's outside away from the bounce back of signal from your device you're using the app on, the audio is just as good and clear as any ring camera or intercom. This is a doorbell that's very flexible in terms of how you want to set it up and use it, either 100% free as an Intercom with you screen recording, buy an SD card with either constant recording or set up via the app to record certain things and times and you control the SD memory from the app all for free or you pay for the cloud storage that does it all for you. I'm very happy with this device, I got it because we have someone wheelchair bound who can't always get to the door and it's been brilliant. You also get a smaller device that you plug in that sounds the chime of the bell into the room it's plugged into when the outside bell is pressed, you can change the volume and sound between a few settings from both the phone app or the plug it's self. I've left mine wireless and stuck to the front door using the sticky pads that come in the box and even in heavy rain it's reminded solid in place. Highly recommend this little thing. You do get notifications for what you choose to set up so for everything or just a person or motion, pets, packages etc but those notifications only go into the app if you have the free version, if you want the app to send it to your phones main screen then that's part of the paid service, however you can just open the app if you're not at home and the notification is there. The camera range is great and very clear. You won't have any issues seeing or hearing from the app. Finally don't worry if you can't find the flat wall bracket that you need for installation, so in the box you get three brackets and two of those and for if you need to install it at a tilt, slant or angle. The other is just the flat bracket that you definitely need to stick or screw in (your choice, the sticker works great) and that flat bracket is what holds the doorbell, I couldn't find the bracket but it was clipped into on of the tilted ones in the box, just unclip it and problem solved, takes seconds. It connects fast and easy to both internet and Bluetooth by using in app steps, the app is compatible with android and apple without issues, the lighting is great and you can chose to have it off all the time, on all the time, the colour of the light or you just turn the light on yourself via the app or have it motion centered. I can't be happier about this product, especially if you have someone (or yourself) at home with disabilities that struggles, this is perfect for them, if they can use the app then they have a great product.

Pontos a melhorar: O principal inconveniente é a questão do armazenamento cloud.

No ongoing fees.
Replaced a Ring doorbell with this unit, no ongoing fees, great wide angle lens. No comparison in my opinion.

Helpful Video Recording
The video doorbell has helped in hearing when someone is at the door as well as identifying when Amazon makes a delivery by capturing the video to the cloud. So far, it also has helped in stopping nuisance children from knocking on our apartments doors and running away.
