Great subscription free Doorbell
I was after a new Doorbell to replace my existing one with an expensive subscription, trying to find the one with the best reviews I opted for the Tapo D235. First impressions are it's a good replacement and within 2 yrs it'll of paid for itself. Easy to set up, picture quality on a par with my previous doorbell, but it has a much wider angle showing further down the street. At first it wouldn't connect to Alexa, but just did a fresh install of Alexa on another android device and it now works fine accross all my devices. I read on another review that you can only have the one master account on one device, this is easily resolved by using the same log in details over a number of devices. App seems ok, no adverts like reported on some other apps apart from it asking you use the cloud storage. Time will tell if this is a good investment but first impressions are good. Edit...A week on, after a few tweaks I've now managed to stop all false alarms without missing the notifications that matter. Would give It 6 stars if I could.

No subscription charge, comprehensive installation instructions, good camera, reasonable price.
Quick set up guide is clear and straight forward. Before installing any brackets, etc you have to charge it for 6 hours using the special C connecter- you need an adapter plug - not supplied. I looked at several battery doorbell products before I decided on this one- it has 2 advantages over the rest. 1. The installation bracket is only 5cm wide - just enough to fit on my wooden doorframe without sticking out. 2. No monthly subscription- except for the One off yearly subscription offered by Tapo - but it's not mandatory like similar products and you can always cancel it at any time. Once you have synced the doorbell and chime to your home WiFi - look at the back of your sky router, installation is straight forward providing you are careful at placing the 3M sticky template supplied- best to dry fit it first then stick to template. I didn't use the wedge templates supplied as the depth of the doorbell unit + template thickness was enough to make the wide angle camera lens stand proud of the neighbouring brickwork. You can set various bell tones on the chime by pressing a button on the side. When the chime is synced with the doorbell the red light goes green permanently. If you subscribe to the cloud you get instant video storage on your synced phone which you can back check. All in all a well though out product and at a reasonable price for the amount of installation prices in the box. Only negative is the night camera is in black and white but the picture is sharp as are the recorded videos. No warning sticker for visitors in the box? Perhaps it's not mandatory in the UK. Remember to set the anti- theft button on the Tapo app and switch it on - button on back of doorbell before you click it into place on the bracket - secured with two wood screws after sticking to doorframe. Review update: if you have recently had a sky router update you will have changed your WiFi settings. The doorbell will now not work even if you reset it- flashes red - it's searching for your new network. After much searching I found the answer. If you have an Internet TV eg Samsung like me, switch it on,press the source button on the remote, sky, home, settings, status, network connection, network setup, advanced settings, check that your 'WiFi hotspots' is set to 'on' and press ' return' . This enables your router to connect to all devices within the house which will include your red flashing tapo doorbell! It will respond with ' doorbell connected' and will flash red and green alternatively to show a connection. Took a bit of thinking out but doorbell works fine now. Hope this helps for those of you who've recently changed their WiFi settings.

Excellent subscription free battery doorbell
I’ve been using the Tapo D235 2K 5MP Video Doorbell for a few weeks now and I’m genuinely impressed. The 180° ultra-wide head-to-toe view is one of the best features — I can clearly see faces and packages left on the ground without any blind spots. The 2K 5MP resolution is crisp and sharp, both during the day and at night. Setup was quick and easy using the Tapo app. I chose the wireless battery option and the 210-day battery life has been holding up extremely well. It also came with the Ring Chime included, which is a nice touch. I love that there’s no monthly fee and the free AI detection accurately notifies me about people, packages, and vehicles. The two-way audio works great (I’ve had clear conversations with delivery drivers), and it integrates perfectly with my Alexa Echo Show — I can just say “Alexa, show me the front door” and it pops right up. No subscription cost if you put a micro SD card in . I personally would buy a endurance rated as card. Weather hasn’t been an issue either thanks to the IP66 rating. Overall, this is a fantastic, affordable alternative to more expensive brands. If you want reliable performance, excellent video quality, and zero subscription costs, I highly recommend the Tapo D235! Would definitely buy again

Consider what you want to use it for.
This is larger than I expected but the adhesive has kept it stuck. The picture is very clear with full colour at night too and it is very sensitive to movement and the view is extremely wide. These are great but in the first few days of use it had about 100+ activations. It took a while to find the right settings and it works well. I also have a Tapo camera and that records for longer but I cant position it to capture my front door (the path is covered but not the door). The doorbell clips are usually 15 seconds so only saves image when the person or animal are right at the door and it cuts off before they have turned and left so if you're using the doorbell for general security I'd recommend a camera instead. I haven't used the 2 way chat and dont have notifications set. I got it during Prime week so it was reduced. Battery life will last 2 months on current use. Easy to set up and it joins the camera on my app. If the functions are what you're looking for I definitely recommend it

Updated DO NOT BUY.
I got this one to replace the d21 I am returning as it simply missed quite a few events, identified a small garden water feature as a person, failed to catch postie, failed to catch several people we saw by our gate. so given that the much cheaper d21 is every bit a not so good as this one, I am returning the tapo d235 and getting another which hopefully will put and end to this, 3 doorbells have failed here, 2 of the them tapo. I am going to order another one and if equally as bad then it's very much the brand knocking out inferior products which I find hard to accept given all the positive reviews this model has had, fingers crossed the replacement is as good as everyone says it is, and if it is I shall come back and alter this review. Update, the new one is a country mile better than the one they sent out claiming it was a "Black Friday Deal" from where I am sitting it was a "get rid of the crap stock deal and lets pretend they are getting a bargain deal" this one cost me almost £30 more than the "black Friday" one, is it worth it? not sure but be wary of any alleged deals. Overall I am happy with the camera after comparing it for 3 hours to the previous one and so far doing what it should do. Update 4th Jan 2026, the doorbell is proving to be just as useless as the previous one, not picking up motion, people walking down the path, missing events entrirely, so now it is being returned an BE WARNED, we the customers here at Amazon will have to PAY to send faulty goods back, no free Amazon return unlike the black friday sale one which was picked up by the postman the next day free of charge. I WILL NEVER buy this brand again nor will I deal with this seller again. this review was originally 3 stars to give the benefit of the doubt over a faulty previous one, this now is an accurate review of what to expect.

Reliable video door camera
Really impressed with this doorbell camera. The video quality is clear, the setup was straightforward, and the battery life has been good so far. The app is easy to use, and I like being able to check what's happening at the door when I'm not nearby. A great upgrade for added security and peace of mind.

A fabulous video doorbell, especially for the hard of hearing.
I'd had this bell in my list for a while due to the excellent reviews. Hubby bought me one as a surprise and I am so thrilled after setting it up today. One reason for wanting a video bell is that hubby & I are both deaf, so we were missing callers if we weren't in the room with the flashing bell we had before. Also I have Rheumatoid which means I'm slow to get to the door. So we got this bell and I have to say from the first moment of opening it, it was a breeze to set up. The app is very intuitive and easy to use, the bell fixings are clear and easy to use. So bell charged, app and bell plus chimer all connected and working. My daughter drilled the holes for the bracket and we fitted it to the wall. I fiddled with a few settings, we opted for an SD card so we could avoid the subscription and then I waited for my little grandson to arrive to test it out for me. It worked perfectly, also for the Amazon delivery man a short while later. Hubby will be home in a few & I've locked the door so he has to ring the bell! I also want to add how cristal clear the video is and how clear the two way audio is, even being deaf (hearing aids wearers), we can use it beautifully. It's a fabulous bit of kit and good value to boot, with absolutely everything you will need in the box. Quick tip, check out the qr code videos while it's charging up, it's super clear how to get things up & running.

The Real Deal 9.5/10
all bells of such type are nearly the same and there isn't much difference. they are all nearly very good. I went with this one because I am already in to the tapo eco system. tapo is the next best system after Philips hue in uk and its damn affordable . so why did I put 9.5 /10.. well its got 10,000mah internal battery which is one of the biggest in such bells. its got 180 degree views which are also very good for both vertical and horizontal viewing. so you can technically see packages on your door steps. the defining feature of this bell is its ability to connect to a tapo hub . the micro sd card can either be used inside the bell or in the hub. I use my micro sd card in the hub and hence if ever the bell gets stolen I still have the footage stored indoors on the hub. the hub also saves battery energy as the bell can connect to hub instead of power hungry wifi. the detection etc is also very nice. when the bell button is pressed your phone rings as if receiving a phone call and you can talk to the person on your door. the included chime also works alongside the hubs own inbuilt chime so you can hear the bell ringing in different rooms at the same time. though not a good point yet the volume can be adjusted from full to silent on either individual chimes and chimes are all synced up and ring at the same time if needed. . the only downside of this bell is that tapo doesn't sell a direct wall charger of their own and other chargers from Yale or ring wouldn't work with this bell. so you have to buy aftermarket cheap charger for this bell. without direct power the bell is going to only record events . if you need 24/7 recording then you need direct power to bell. as I said earlier . I already have Yale lock and the bell from Yale would have been better however for this ones price point nothing in the market is better. tech changes every 5 to 7 yrs and instead of investing 3x the money on a similar bell I can easily throw this one out after 5 to 7 yrs and get latest tech in that time. not that this bell is going to fail in 5 to 7 yrs. its just a perspective. the assurance that you will not miss someone at your door is reassuring in it self. however not one person has ever ringed this bell since I installed it despite the bell icon lighting up when someone approaches my front door. I don't know why people still perfer to knock on the door. the bell is large and good sized and heavy however this is a good sign . on an end note nearly all bells of similar tech are now a days similar in most actions and my advise would be to go with the eco system you already have in place and the app you are already signed in to . I am awaiting matters integration on this bell. the hub does say matters compatiable and the hub is added to apple HomeKit however there is no use of the hub in apple HomeKit till now.

Pontos a melhorar: O principal inconveniente é a questão do armazenamento cloud.

No ongoing fees.
Replaced a Ring doorbell with this unit, no ongoing fees, great wide angle lens. No comparison in my opinion.

Helpful Video Recording
The video doorbell has helped in hearing when someone is at the door as well as identifying when Amazon makes a delivery by capturing the video to the cloud. So far, it also has helped in stopping nuisance children from knocking on our apartments doors and running away.
