I liked the black cast iron (we have a gas stove top and lots of black cast iron, so this would just add to the collection), I liked the black cast iron base, and I liked how it has two small side handles rather than one large long one. It looks like a regular cast iron pot. So I figured we could easily use it for non fondue needs. And, just more visually appealing to me. Well, then I saw that the shipping arrival date would bring this to a few days after actual anniversary (I could still get the other original option in time). BUT, I decided to go with this one anyway, because ultimately I liked it better. I was sure our marriage could handle a belated gift. However, it just happened to arrive a few days early ON our actual anniversary. Just a fun little detail that added to my experience. The pot is as great as I anticipated. I think I will do an extra coat of seasoning to get it extra slick. I clean it like I would any other cast iron pot- with course salt and some oil. Then wipe it out, or rinse then add oil for added protection. Can be used on stove, and of course can be used with base and the fuel. I bought extra fuel from them. If you arent used to cast iron, know that it can take a little extra time to heat up, but once it does it hold heat longer than other vessels. So far quite happy with this purchase.
