Winnie The Pooh : The Complete Collection of Stories & Poems

What a wonderful book all the stories and poems in one and Shepards drawings bring back ones childhood for a reasonable second hand price.....

Bought mainly for the illustrations, I found myself reading the surrounding text and I was hooked. Result: I started reading it in earnest. I read it at bedtime to then drift off to sleep with the likes of Kanga and Baby Roo, Piglet (my favourite) and of course not forgetting Pooh, in my head rather than the stresses of the day. I haven't read it all yet (it is a very large collection which I've only had a short while) but have dipped here and there, marvelling, chuckling, occasionally worrying but never passive - always touched. So forgive me for doing a review before I've finished it but I want to savour every moment and that could take a long time; it seems important to share this discovery now so that others can see for themselves as soon as possible how wonderful this book is. As a taster, just the introduction to the Winnie-the-Pooh stories made me laugh out loud: piglet peering into the ink-pot at school. I was zapped back to my childhood when I innocently and in wonderment entered the world of science by repeatedly pressing my thumb over the opening of the inkwell set in my school desk creating a super geyser-like fountain of ink. So entranced with this (that and the fact that no-one knew at the time - including me - that I was rather short-sighted!) was I that I had no notion I was spraying the child in front with ink! Anyway, I digress. Or do I? There is a child in us throughout our lives which is often hidden for fear of scorn. Well, I'm proud of that part of me that is a child for it means I can enjoy these stories as much as, if not more than, a child as defined by society. Of those of you who don't know all these stories and poems yet either, maybe there will be some who wish this review painstakingly described them; to these people I apologize, but where's the fun in reading all that secondhand anyway? I feel readers of this book for the first time - the young and the not so young - will benefit as I am from reading it fresh without any of its story content being revealed. I hope that telling you about the inkwell whets your appetite. If not, then saying that A A Milne has a rare ability to completely draw the reader into the world of Christopher Robin and his toys when combined with E H Shepard's superb drawings, should be enough to tempt you. Then there's the funny, quirky, clever, delightful, ... poems. It's a veritable feast. Finally, for those of you who want to know each storyline (if there is one!) and/or punchline (again, if there is one!) before buying a book, maybe you're not ready to take the plunge and access the child in you - so buy it for someone who is, they will be forever grateful, and you will be forever peering over their shoulder.

This is a beautiful book. It not has every single winnie the pooh story and poem and all the original illustrations by E. H. Shepherd. Although quite pricey when bought new, there are a number of reliable second hand booksellers that sell the book quite cheaply. I did this and the book was in very good condition. This book is suitable for all the family: In terms of children it is useful in terms of getting them interested in reading while it allows adults to get all nostalgic and re-visit the simple happiness of childhood when we all thought our toys came alive when we weren't looking.

Over the years, I have given this to various children who have arrived to friends and family. For some reason, now I am in the later stage of life I decided to read it again myself. In this world of sometimes depressing events, this old comfort blanket is warm and welcoming. Maybe we should send this to some of the despots who make too many peoples lives a misery and see if they can learn some basic humanity from it? Oh, and Disney may be a great institution but E.H. Shephard had something they have certainly not been able to improve.....

Lovely pretty book, of very nice quality! Arrived quickly & in good condition. Hard back book which is quite large so small children may need help to lift the book. Beautifully presented inside & a perfect gift for a child to create memories of Winne the Pooh & friends. Given as a gift!

A review of the Winnie-the-Pooh books is probably unnecessary... anyhow, for those grew up with Pooh-bear, Piglet, Owl (and of course Eeyore, who always gets forgotten) and all the rest - here they all are again, in a solidly bound hard-cover edition, with the wonderful Shepard illustrations, now lightly coloured. And the poems....such a joy! the complications of the King's Breakfast (I only want a little bit of butter for my bread), King John's Christmas (they'd given him no present now, for years and years and years).. the memorable encounter between the King of France and Mr Edward Bear (and handsome, if a trifle fat, [they] talked carelessly of this and that... Superb condition. Arrived promptly. I wouldn't want to fault it and am very pleased I can't! Bought to read with my 6 year old granddaughter who loves Pooh. Creating memories for us both. Thankyou!

Beautiful book with complete original illustrations, though a little bigger for childrens' hands, this edition (ISBN 978-1856132428) is reasonably priced, collected all the pooh tales and poems complete with illustrations in solid Hardcover. Happy with the purchase.

This book is our very favorite. The illustrations are gorgeous, sweet and kind. This book is absolutely fantastic! We ordered as a gift a four volume Winnie the Pooh from Folio Society in UK and luckily they were sold out completely when we wanted to buy one for our children. We found this book and it is so amazing by far! Stunning book! Thank you!

What a wonderful edition of the classic which all the Pooh tales and the poems of A. A. Milne. And not to mention the wonderful all color illustrations by E.H. Shepard. The lovers of Pooh must have this edition. As you read on from the first story through the twentieth, you start getting involved in the characters : Pooh, Christoper Robin, Piglet, Eyore, Owl, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit and all. The humor in the story, the funny poems of Pooh, the essence of friendship and helping each other, all are perfect ingredients for children to enjoy and learn. My son just loved it.
