NEEWER HD 85MM Telephoto Phone Lens Only for 17mm Thread Backplate, LS-59

Amazing lens for street photography, portrait and closer shots. Quality and construction of this lens is very good and on par with more expensive products. Highly recommend this lens - Works well with iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Bought it for iPhone 16 Pro Max for fun to see if it could improve background separation. TLDR: not noticeably. Pros: - well built (all-metal casing). - smart protective carry case. - 1x camera did actually still function. Cons: - absolutely massive. - very heavy (heavier than the phone in a case). - auto-focus hunting issues. - long minimum focus distance. - fiddly to attach. - difficult to handle once attached because of the weight. - you'll need to rig out your phone in a cage and handles to make handling more stable, or lock it off on a tripod. - only works on 1x camera (not macro, 2x, or 5x). - camera switching functions no longer work. - worse stabilisation than native 5x zoom lens. Conclusion: By the time you have all the kit to make it useful - cage kit with handles, lens, filters - you're almost at the price of a second-hand Sony APS-C camera (and you'll still be able to use your phone normally).

Incredibly overpriced for the quality obtained. Soft away from centre, and very soft with aberration in corners. A 2x digital crop will be better, and cheaper than this. Oh and it's also very heavy and very big. Very disappointed given the price

I briefly owned this lens, was giving amazing bokeh for portraits but the poor Neewer cage back plate locking mechanism could not hold on to the weight of this lens as it fell off while I was visiting a national park (with the backplate). Lens is very heavy hence reducing a star and it might seem as defeat the purpose of mobile photography with such heavy/huge gear. Image quality was very good for portrait, edge is a bit soft not that great.

This lens isn't suitable for the Galaxy S25 Ultra as it blocks the auto focus sensor. Manual focus is very difficult even on a tripod and the images are very soft with strong chromatic aberration.

This blue ring upgraded version 2 of the Neewer 60mm LS41-PRO is much better than the original. The 60mm along with the 18mm (LS42-PRO). They are both the sharpest lenses on the whole Set of this new "blue Ring" PRO line. On the iPhone 15 Pro MAx, they focus quickly and the image does not lose any quality on these two lenses. Also they are both nice and small. No counterweight needed on a gumbal. The 85mm (LS59) is bigger than most 50mm lenses for DSLRs. it weights as much as two iPhones. It works well from about 2 metres away when the light is good, contrasty and plentyful. Not for cloudy days. The image is good in the middle, however its considerably more soft than the 60mm. I believe that its a "moody" lens with a very nice and smooth bokeh, and thats its strength. Don't bother using the lens clip with this lens, you are gonna need one of the Neewer metal phone cases or a cage, they both work well. Even the Neewer Faux leather case made fopr these lenses struggles to keep alignment with the 85mm due to its weight. Its a nice portrait lens where its flaws give its character. I also bought the 7x Zoom lens (LS36PRO) with the blue ring and its much better then the original tele which was very hard to use. This lens works well in sunny days and thats about it, sunny days only. There is a manual focus that you need to use to put the lens in focus range, near or far, the autofocus will take care of the rest. The closer the the subject is more you will need adjust the focusing ring. Anything beyond 20 metres the autofocus will adjust automatically. These lenses offer great value for what they offer, I have tried SHIFTCAM and Moment LEnses and the image quality is about the same, however NEEWER offers these lenses at a much lower price.

Used it several times. Here are the pros-cons Pros 1) portraits comes slightly better which is excellent. 2) easy to use. Cons 1) too heavy, making the whole setup unbalanced 2) uncomfortable to carry around during a trip Conclusion: Even if the pictures come good, low portability made me decide to stop using it. I will definitely get it out from the drawer only when I’m gonna take any portrait photo at my place.
