ArtDot Blue Putty, Review & Tips
Personally, I LOVE this putty! I have purchased 3 tins of the blue putty (1 for my daughter and 1 as a backup). I do 120 color - 200 color canvases and this stuff lasts FOREVER! I LOVE the firmness of it and how it never sticks to my canvas or my drills, no residue whatsoever. I thought I was missing out on the "fancy, scented" puttys on Etsy so I ordered a couple to try. Needless to say, they went in the trash and I pulled out my awesome ArtDot blue putty and will never look back. The trick is to keep it cool (some people in hot, humid areas use the crisper drawer in the fridge), in Maine that isn't a problem and do not overfill your multi-placer. Really smash it in the multi-placer and realize the first couple of placings will end up pushing a little out on the sides. Remove the stuff on the sides and put it back into your brick of putty. Every once in a while I will rub my finger over it to smooth it out but not that often. When it gets dirty or starts to feel stringy to me, I take it out, roll it around my fingers, put it back in my pen and we're off to the races again. I use glue dots in my single placer but will only use the ArtDot blue putty in my multi-placer. It lasts forever and I NEVER have residue on my canvas or my drills. When placing AB's with my single placer using glue dots, I wet the tip with a damp paper towel and AB's won't stick (need to re-wet after about 8-10 drills). Everyone paints differently and all environments are different but I highly recommend this putty and give it a chance. Learn how to work with it and I think you will love it. I know I do. Plus, you get SO much of it. For the price, you can't beat it. I put my whole square in a ziplock sandwich bag and then put it in the tin so that it will stay fresh. When I do a 50x70 painting in 120 colors, I usually only have to fill my pen once and rarely have to take it out to roll it around with my fingers (depending on the weather). I do like to smooth it once in a while though. Be sure to get it even (especially both sides) so that you can get a full line for the size of your placer. I hope this helps others who have had issues using this putty as I have tried MANY different things in my multi-placer and I will never use anything else again after purchasing this putty.

Sticky
This was too good of a deal to pass up at 6.99. I've never used it before now, but I love it. I pinched off a tiny piece and got it warm and it worked great. It's super easy to use. It's get sticky, you barely have to touch your drills to get them to attach. The size and storage capacity of this tin are great. Its literally the size of my hand and it holds the tool as well as the wax. The tool is a nice addition!

For the price you really can't complain
I'm pretty sure this is just blue sticky tack but it works well. I like the little tool that comes with it. I do have some trouble with this sticking to ABs. It also seems to keep squeezing out the sides. Sometimes one side will get warm and start stringing and sticking to pieces. Other putties do that too though. This restored my faith in Artdot supplies. Rarely the quality is poor, but usually I can trust artdot to deliver. This container is huge. I expected a very small amount like the lip gloss containers from the 90s. It's actually about the size of your hand and decent thickness. The tool is worth it all by itself. I use it for several of my putties and waxes. Really great deal. Probably won't ever run out. I doubt I'll need to purchase again. For this price in the fancy brands you would get a tiny square that's half the thickness and 1/6 the size of this one. It's a great deal.

Long lasting
I love this putty. It lasts in your pen for a long time. So far this is my favorite.

Way too sticky, tin is awesome
I LOVE the tin and cleaning pen. However, I don’t care much for this purple putty. I thought it would be like the other one I have, it’s not. And I LOVE the one I have. It does hold the drills good, but too good. I had issues getting all the drills off my pen onto the canvas.

Good but not great
Seems like a great product. Best when used cold so it’s not super sticky. If you’re in a dusty area it’s not the best but it does seem to work. I don’t care for it much.

Do not like Believe messier than wax
After reading some reviews and watching videos about this type of product, I decided to try some. I’ve had this a few months, but just tried it for a few times. Maybe I’m using it wrong, but do not like it. It seems to stick to the top of the drills, and smear. If the wax smears, or falls off of the drills, I can just wipe it away. Not with this putty. It smears and sticks, and seems to leave a duller finish to the drills. A relative, who had introduced me to Diamond painting, had mentioned this as an alternative to the wax. So, without telling her of my thoughts first, asked her what she thought of using putty instead of wax. She described the very same thing I had experienced. This I cannot recommend the putty over the wax. It could be the type of putty or how I am using it. I know that others have mentioned preferring it to wax. But I will probably give my fairly new tin of putty to someone who does like it.

Super sticky but still places drills easily
I looked at a lot of putties before choosing this one. I made the right choice! It's very grippy and I can throw out all those cheap ones that come with the paintings now. I haven't tried it on AB drills yet but so far so good. No more drills falling off the pen onto my sticky canvas, I count that as a win.
