Repurpose an old laptop drive as portable storage!
This is a good way to repurpose an old laptop drive as portable storage after an upgrade. The rugged construction makes it logical for, say, an older platter drive, which needs a bit more protection than a 2.5" SSD. Installation was very fast -- unscrew lid with included driver, drop in the drive, replace lid, plug into USB-C port -- and I was able to read an old WD Blue 2TB drive on both Windows and Mac. So yeah, good solution to keep an old drive around as a functional external, portable storage drive without overspending on bandwidth that the drive itself would not support.

Exactly as described
At first, I was a little skeptical about this product but after getting it and seeing it, this is a very well-made, product quality, exactly as described

Breathe new life into any old ssd/hdd !
This breathed new life into a Samsung QVO ssd I had from an old pc build. The ssd fit perfectly and the opening/closing process gives me confidence with its durability in the long term. My only issue was when I was running a blackmagic disk speed test it went a little past halfway and then errored out. It’s a bit concerning however I’ve put many large files with no corruption issues so I’m praying it’s just a fluke. It does run at the speed that my ssd is rated for so no issues there! Overall a really good enclosure for the price!

Perfect! Works with 8TB SSD.
Finally an excellent product. This is based on my initial impressions. I needed a case to house a raw 8TB SSD and most of the others I came across 4TB limits for some odd reason. I also needed something that can move data fast as this will be used for holding 4K drone videos & pictures. So with my very anemic micro-PC with a 17W TDP processor & 24GB memory, It maxed out at 320MB/s. I'm fairly certain it's not possible on my machine but this is good enough for me. I was worried about the built-in USB-C cable but it appears fairly durable and is adequately long enough to do the job with no frustration. And honestly, if it gets damaged I'll just buy another case at only $20. Don't waste you time with the cheap junk. Also, My Samsung SSD fit nearly perfect but had a bit of a gap to the removable top. They include a little piece of foam which does the trick. But I also had about a 1/4" gap on the bottom which I am slightly worried (probably unfounded) it might come loose with a tail strike so I took a thin piece of UHB tape, left the wrap on the top side, and just folded it over and jammed in in the gap. It's not anywhere now LOL. It does seem to be mostly waterproof so make sure the metal cover is tightened enough without stripping out the screws.

Just Impressive
I had an extra Samsung 860 EVO SSD that I wanted to turn into an external USB-C drive so I thought I'd give this product a shot - I'm glad I did. My main concerns when researching were the drive rattling around in the enclosure, durability, and speed. This enclosure passed with flying colors. I first noticed that it was extremely well-constructed and looked very rugged without being too bulky. putting the drive in was easy and when installed, it was very secure. One thing of note is that the SSD I put in is thinner than most 2.5" drives, so I was delighted to find a foam pad in the packaging that adheres to the inside of the silver casing to make sure it is secure. This was a nice touch. After I got the drive installed (took about 2 minutes), I proceeded to shake, rattle, drop and step on the enclosure. I am pleased to report that there was no rattle at all, nor any damage. The drive is very firmly held and I'm confident this enclosure will last a very long time and stand up to abuse from travel and drops. As far as performance, it is as fast as if the drive was installed internally in a SATA port. The speed test meets the drive's rated performance through sequential read and write tests, even with low block sizes and other rigorous tests. I was able to move a 10GB file from the desktop of my MacBook Pro and back in a matter of seconds. Lastly, the cable built into the unit is very high quality. It wraps around the enclosure very nicely and I don't have any concerns about the longevity or durability of the cable itself. Overall, this is an extremely high quality enclosure and I would recommend it to anyone. I'm excited to try out their NVMe enclosure soon. I will update if I find any issues with the long-term durability of the enclosure, but if there is not an update, you can assume it's performing as stated here.

Wow, this enclosure just killed my SSD.
I have an old ineo 2.5" hdd enclosure I got back in like 2010. Still works, but I wanted a new "rugged" type for my backup drive. I'm glad I tested this enclosure with an inexpensive SDD I had instead of my backup drive because this new enclosure just killed my SSD. First, I guess i overlooked the design on the product description, but I had assumed this was an aluminum casing with silicon wrapped around it. Nope, its a plastic enclosure, wrapped in silicone, with an aluminum plate on top. Just a plate, that screws in with 6 hex screws. Decided to give it a shot anyways, because the old ineo enclosure I have still works great. Pop in the SSD and decide to wipe/format it to repurpose it in another system. Write speeds are fluctuating between 25MB/s - 35MB/s. What? Mind you it's plugged into a thunderbolt port - since it's USB-C. Let it run for a while and then it gets disconnected. Drive didn't get wiped, it got killed. Swapped to my old ineo enclosure - can't access the drive. Tried another (newer UGREEN) enclosure, and yup - dead. Why? Did I get a dud? If so, wow. I had hoped this enclosure would be a worthy upgrade, but I was wrong. Sad my SSD is dead, but I'm glad I did not put my actual backup drive in there.

Installed a spare 1TB SSD and all is good. Using it for file transfers between Mac's & PCs. Nice build quality and having the permanent USB-C cable attached is a useful touch. Having purchased a number of cheaper drive cases with mixed results, I can say it's worthwhile to spend a little bit more on the Ineo.
