METAXA 7 Stars, The Original Greek Spirit, 70 cl

This is our favourite brandy. Its nice and smooth and doesnt burn and has a bit of a honey flavour. We can only get this in Greece or Amazon.

Tried when out in Greece and enjoyed so much I was glad to find it when I got back. Even better being on offer so great value for money. Smooth easy drink that goes down quickly!

Ordered this for my partner. He’s been going to Greece for nearly 30 years now, loved Metaxa since he first tried it. He never normally buys any at the airport as he’s always to generous buying for others. So thought I’d treat him this Christmas. He took a sip and the enjoyment in his face was worth it. Price is great.

If you like Metaxa you'll probably know that there are a few versions - I think at least seven - and I've tried a few. They range in price from just over £20 to well into three figures. The usual versions are 5,7 & 12 stars. The numbers signify the years of aging. Possibly the number of ingredients too. I don't notice a great deal of difference between the 7 & 12 but I'm not keen on the 5 as it's a bit harsher & has less alcohol. If you haven't tried Metaxa before, it's a brandy......but nothing like the French equivalent. Metaxa is very full bodied, rich, mellow & indulgent. Distilled from sun dried grapes, aged in oak barrels & infused with Muscat wine makes for a spicy, fruity & chewy mouthful with hints of chocolate. It's great at any time but, for example, a great alternative brandy at times like Christmas.

Good quality and good value

Ordered 4, as I need a huge brandy every night to get to sleep (tinnitus), so when this was on offer, I was very happy, as it is much nicer than my usual Three Barrels! I add a large dollop of raw honey and an hour later, I am sparko. I can't drink it (or any spirit neat) as it causes instant heart burn, but with 50/50 water and honey, this is nectar. Tinnitus is an expensive ailment to have - this four bottles is one month's worth of 'treatment'!

I first had Metaxa 7* in Greece in the early 1990s. Absolutely loved it and only recently found it available online. It is smooth as silk, tastes like sunshine - warm and delicious. It is a joy. I ordered the 12* at a premium - tastes like paint stripper. Appalled and couldn't send it back. This 7* is the one for me. Beautiful bottle, colour, aroma, taste. Heaven. The price fluctuates quite a bit and often so stick it in your basket and press buy when it below £20!

Ich koche sehr gerne Metaxa Sauce und dieser 7 Sterne Brandy ist perfekt dafür geeignet.
