B13 - VISONIC POWERMAX WIRELESS BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEM PIR/KEYFOB/PANEL/SIREN/DOOR CONTACT

I bought this item after a friend showed me the same alarm kit fitted by a local alarm company and how good it was. Having done a little research I decided to buy and fit myself. Although advertised as a DIY kit the first thing I noticed when the box arrived was a bright yellow warning in various languages stating the opposite, that it should only be installed by professional alarm engneers! Undeterred I proceeded to un-pack and set up the various bits of the kit and read the instalation manual. It took a lot of reading and looking at the programming to fathom out the flow charts of the manual which I have to say are not great, but I eventually got my head round how the system and programming worked.So in summary a great price from New Forest Security for a fab bit of kit, which now installed works just great, is it a DIY kit I'd have to conclude not! It says they ( New Forest ) will supply help / support and after I emailed for their Tel: number the response was great within an hour I had it. Thankfully I worked out myself what I wanted to know, so didn't require their help in the end, but it clearly states that Visonic WILL NOT give support so if your likely to need lots of help, this kit may not be for you even if it is such a great price. I think you do need to have some knowledge and technical skill of alarms to fit this kit so not for the faint hearted, I hope this review helps.

Great item

Visonic no longer supply ANY parts for this unit/set except some batteries. This unit is obsolete and it has been relpaced with an identical looking unit which works on a different priciple and will not accept old beams, door contacts, remotes, siren etc. BEWARE as you will not have a usable guarantee. (This is information released by Visonic).

This is supposed to be a professional-only fit alarm, but it's actually very easy. I think the "professional-only" tag is probably so they can make the user manual as complicated and esoteric as possible. A bit of Googling will help with some of the terms.Installation took me about half a day as I had mains power to a previous unit so didn't have to run new cable.It's been working fine for 18 months but last night I got home at about midnight to find the proximity tag read has failed (sorry, neighbours). Neither of the proximity tags work and the unit will not recognise them when I try and re-register them. This is very disappointing as I find the proximity tags by far the easiest way to use the unit - they take up the least room on a keyring.UPDATE: The vendor got back to me and suggested a power cycle - disconnect mains and battery, then disconnect. This has worked and the RF tags are now working again!FURTHER UPDATE: A month later and the proximity reader has failed again. A power cycle has fixed it again but I'm not impressed at the prospect of clambering around in my loft every couple of months just to keep this thing working.

Got this unit professionally installed less than 18 months ago . Has now stopped working properly . Avoid avoid avoid !!
