This product is intended to be a battery charger for various battery types, including lithium. The non-isolated Orion units are just voltage converters; they lack the multistage battery charging profiles necessary to precisely charge some types of batteries. If an unprofiled (brute force) voltage converter is improperly applied to the wrong type battery, it can damage your battery. That said, I do have a non-isolated Orion converter floating a LEAD ACID battery at 13.7 volts, and it's fine because lead acid is very forgiving. But to charge my LITHIUM batteries, which are much more picky (and dangerous), I very much needed this type of precision and this type of charger. So it's much more than a galvanic/ground isolation issue. It's a very precise battery charger. **Q: I already have an isolated 12-24 and im getting another 12-24 non isolated from a friend. can i hook them up in parallel to get more amperes?** A: I don't know for absolute but generally if you connect two 3 Stage (Bulk, Absorption, Float mode) chargers in parallel, one will "see" the voltage of the other charger and confuse this with the battery's actual voltage. This results in one charger typically immediately going to the Float step and effectively shutting down. You could ask Victron directly if there is a work around for this but probably? not. If you have two or more pairs of batteries (say, 2 pairs of 12 volt batteries in series / parallel like I have), you could use a Bat 1 - Both - Bat 2 Heavy Battery Switch to isolate both batteries when charging (i.e. leave the switch in either Bat 1 or Bat 2 position (not in Both except when using instead of charging). That way, you could use each charger to independently charge a series pair. Hope you get my drift.
