This item was ment to be ceramic no hard plastic on the base it does everything testing said item last night with having steak used steak knife and not a mark not one so I will keep using the plates only bought as disability I have I'm always picking my dinner off floor having sides make eating a whole new venture GREAT LITTLE PLATE WELL INPREST
