Moto tag (4-Pack)

For years I've had another brand of device finder on my indoor cats both to help find where they've hidden in the house and in case they get out. They were mediocre at best. I could be standing six feet from the cat and the app would tell me they're nowhere to be seen. The more popular brand is the gold standard, but we're an all-Android house so that was not an option. These mototags have been terrific. They connect quickly and have an animation basically showing "hot/cold" as to where the tag is. This is especially useful for cat finding as the noise scares one of my cats. I have Google Home devices throughout the house and sometimes the app will even show which room the cat is in, based on which Home it's connected to.

Already owning both Airtags and Smart tags, I couldn't wait to try out the new Moto Tag. Only 1 didn't pair right away, and I tried it again which paired perfectly. For new users of any trackable tag, please be patient, especially if you live in a semi rural area. While these tags ping off other phones, not all phones are new enough (ultra wide band) and not all older phones have the find my feature enabled and running. First thoughts is that it is nearly identical to the air tags disc shape, only slightly smaller, and android compatible of course. I attached all three mentioned brands to my wife's key chain as a test and she took them shopping with her and the results were very accurate and fast. Of course my intent on buying these is not to track anyone, as I could do that better with life360. My main reason is to keep track of my wallet, keys, even pet, and most any valuables such as side by side, 4 wheelers and anything valuable. Just tape the tag with super sticky black tape to anywhere such as the under side of the dash, and you will never lose track of your items again.

The item was received in good condition. The setup was straightforward and the Find My Device app immediately detected the tags as soon as the plastic tab was removed and the battery was activated. It works great with my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Samsung Galaxy S24 FE handsets. The Motorola app did not work at all so I was not able to configure the button on the tag. I attached one tag to my keys and the rest were placed on 3rd-party cat collars for my pets. Location accuracy was very broad but that is to be expected since I was not able to make use of the UWB functionality of the device. Worked great for a week but one of the tags stopped updating. I tried replacing the battery and resetting the device but the tag appeared to remain dead. Contacted Amazon Customer Support and the agent refunded my single defective tag for $20 (felt a bit shortchanged since the 4 pack sold for around $100).

The Moto Tags themselves work as intended, still waiting to hear about when Ultrawide Band gets enabled on them for precise finding. However, Google's "Find My Device" network is nowhere near competitive against Apple's, or even Samsung's. Google doesn't automatically enable the location data to be used on "Find My Device" network, unless people opt-in to use it. I guess it is "privacy conscious," but in reality unless other people with Android devices opted-in to the service then your tags won't be updating their location when away from you. It has nothing to do with the tags themselves or Motorola, but it is upon Google to figure out a way to have their users either: incentivized to opt into allowing to use their device's location to locate other devices; or make it enabled by default and have users opt-out if they don't want to participate in the device location network like Apple has. Search radius on the map indeed is too big. I understand that it is limited by data from other devices, but it still seems too big to be useful in public spaces as is. Perhaps with more Android devices nearby they get a more accurate location? Pairing them took a bit of figuring out because you have to make sure device scanning is enabled in Google Account settings.

I wanted something better than Tile for tracking items, and this seemed to fit the bill, based on all the reviews I read. Plus I was supposed to be able to use it as a remote for my phones camera. Unfortunately these are useless, and Motorola customer is atrocious. 1. They rapidly drain my phone's battery. Prior to activating these tags my phone would go from 100% to 50 to 69% in twelve hours. After activating these rates my phone went from 100% to 20% in less than two hours. 2. The camera remote only works for still photos, not video. I called Motorola customer service several times, and spent more than 2 hours with 6 different people. Three "Tier 1" representatives, 2 "Tier 2" representatives, and finally, after 2 hours total, I spoke to a "Tier 3" representative. The T3 person said the camera remote won't work for video, yet NONE of the Motorola marketing says that, Also, because I'm not using a Motorola phone, the T3 person would not even try to address the phone battery drain problem. Further, no one in the previous 2 hours worth of calls ever said that, about the camera remote or only helping if I was using a Motorola phone. It shouldn't take multiple calls, and insisting on escalating the problem, to get that information. I made it clear to everyone, including the T3 person, the ONLY change to the phone, was the use of the tags, and they advertise them for use with all Android devices, but the T3 rep refused to troubleshoot the phone battery drain problem, because I'm not using a Motorola phone. Also, the remote camera function is straight up false advertising, as.they don't specify it will not work for video, only stills. TLDR: These trackers will kill your phone battery, Motorola is using false advertising, and their customer service is trash.

Having used Airtags I was thinking these would work the same to track my kid's location. I put 2 on a backpack and a necklace. Upon leaving them at school, i was unable to find them via android's find my device at home. Having talked with motorola i decided to test the other 2 but pairing and leaving them right by my wife's android 14 phone (thinkphone) and go for a bike ride. A mile down the road and they would not pick up the location of either of the other 2. This is against the product description in that it would use any android phone to find the tags. I realize this product is new but if's not going to do the description at all then it doesn't work and is false information. I wanted this to work and maybe IF google updates their UWB it will but as it stands they are only good for locating your keys in your house if you leave them within your nearby vicinity. Total fail so far on my beta testing of Moto's device. I'll give them a few days if they don't magically work I need a refund/return of my money. UPDATE: I'm tracking them as a test as I returned them. They somehow someway are now working it seems. Will continue to update as they go back to Amazon. I did factory reset them all twice then attached them. Maybe I sent them back too soon. We'll see. UPDATE 2: So it did track all 4 of them from Tampa to a distribution center in Jacksonville. There it lost them I guess maybe they were reset. Better result and maybe they work but I'd still hold off until Android updates uwb and a discount appears on them before I'd give them another shot.

I bought the Motorola Moto Tag 4-pack for a solo trip and it ended up being one of the most useful travel items I brought. I used one so my family could keep an eye on my whereabouts for safety/peace of mind, and I also used another to track my luggage while traveling. It made me feel a lot more relaxed knowing I could quickly check where my bag was, and it was reassuring for my family to be able to confirm I was where I said I’d be. Setup was straightforward and once they were paired, they were easy to use day-to-day. Having a 4-pack is great because you can dedicate one to your luggage, one to a backpack or purse, and still have extras for keys or other valuables. If you travel solo or just want an extra layer of reassurance when you’re on the move, these are absolutely worth it.

I am so impressed with these Moto Tags! Setting them up with my Android phone was a breeze, but the real standout feature is the battery life. Knowing I can get up to a full year of power on a single replaceable battery is such a relief—I don't have to worry about constantly recharging them like other gadgets. They are slim, durable, and the peace of mind they provide for my keys and luggage is well worth it. If you're looking for a reliable tracker that you can basically 'set and forget' for months on end, this is the one!

Bad product out of 4 tags, only 1 managed to be successful. Having difficulty connecting to moto tag and also having difficulty having connected to find my hub. Tried many solutions to fix it 1) reset WiFi and Bluetooth. 2) clear cache 3) reddit forums Still didn't work. Go look through the forums and you will see lots of people going through the same problem. Do not buy until both companies Google and Motorola get their things together

Work really well, first time using tags like these but so far the only Keys I've lost are the ones I didn't put a tag on. Also good to put in a car to help find it is a carpark. So far battery life seems good.

Les doy una estrella, porque no se puede dejar en blanco, pero los tags no sirven, no se conectan. Algo que debería ser súper sencillo, ya que incluso mi teléfono es de la misma marca, no lo es. Y con motivo del problema investigué más, y ví que muchas personas tuvieron el mismo problema. Definitivamente los voy a devolver.

Not cheap but work well and great peace of mind

Whilst these do work, the software is functionally very lacking. The app has minimal information and links to the Android app "Find My Device". However when selecting the find option from the Moto Tag app the tag doesn't display in the list of devices available. To access the tag it's necessary to go into Bluetooth and under saved devices select settings on the device which has been tagged, and chose "Find device" from there. Once this is done any other tagged device also appears. Edit: These are still working fine, but I have just had to replace the batteries in two of them, so they lasted about seven months with a decent quality (Duracell) CR2032 battery. That said, it at least shows where your car/cycle/other expensive item is provided someone is close by with an Android mobile. And we find one useful for tracking our car so that when one of us is away from home we can check where they are on the journey back. The hundred pound price for four was good though.
