Review: Bulletproof and a decent finish - Good stuff. Use 3 light coats and you get a decent finish. I used this to cover a worn tub faucet and it has held up very well. I also have used it on an old truck frame. I'd recommend it for door handles, faucets, metal gates, and more. Don't waste time and money on other products for this type of application. If it needs to be bulletproof, use this.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be used on chrome?**
A: Sure, but it won't stay there. Chrome is extremely dense, and unless you are willing to sand it to the point where you can achieve mechanical adhesion, any paint will flake right off. If you need to cover a plated surface, sand it with 80 grit sandpaper with a DA sander, use an appropriate epoxy based sand-able primer, sand the primed surface with 220 grit, then apply the black epoxy. This produce is quite durable, but as with all paints only if the surface is prepped properly.

**Q: can this be used on wood?**
A: As a model maker I could see using this on some boats or, planes. I would however first use a good sander filler, sand to the desired finish required prior to spray painting. Depending on the hardness and porosity of the wood second and sometimes even three or more coats of sander filler may be needed prior to apply this top coat. If you are painting a previously varnished or painted surface you should test spray to see if there wil be any reaction between paints. There are some basic rules concerning enamels vs lacquers vs epoxies you should know.

**Q: will this paint go on over previously painted surfaces without removing the underlying paint?**
A: Yes, but like using any paint in this situation you should first sand the old paint to break the surface, this gives a better bond and use a good cleaner/degreaser to wipe the part down with to remove any contamination that might hinder the bonding of the new paint to the old surface. I like to add a good self etching primer first. This gives an even better layer of protection and clean bonding surface.

**Q: Is this paint UV resistant?  I am worried that it may fade if frequently exposed to direct sunlight.**
A: It’s not UV stable (epoxy paint in general is not UV stable without a top coat). I used the gloss black to paint the fold away tongue and a few parts on the axle. The durability is amazing if prep’ed and painted right. But the tongue, which gets direct sun, has faded. The axles parts have not.  I emailed VHT for a recommendation if I were to repaint it and they said “You can use our Wheel Coating Clear over that product to add UV protection”.  Even though it’s faded it’s not bad and it hasn’t effected the durability.

I’ve been using VHT products for years on bikes—especially Harleys—and this black is very close to the factory powder coat look. It’s perfect for small parts that don’t take a lot of abuse or aren’t worth sending out for powder coating—things like washers, bolts, brackets, and small trim pieces. I’ve had parts coated with this on bikes for years with no issues. It holds up well and keeps a clean look. One thing I do is keep a light coat of wax on the painted parts, and that helps maintain the shine and finish over time. If you’re looking for a quick, cost-effective way to match that Harley black and clean up small parts, this is a great option.
