Can this product be used as an alternative to brushing in the case of elderly persons?

No not really it does not have the ability to remove plaque, only physical brushing can do that, I use this purely as a medicine in that if I get a mouth problem I use it, otherwise I use standard mouthwash, Like all medicated things if you use them all the time they lose effectiveness,

I think it is, it doesn't have the harshness that others with alcohol do. However, I am out of stock so I can't check the ingredients list.
