Good Movie! Underrated IMO.
It's a really good movie for the most part and I'm honestly a bit befuddled why this one gets a bad rap compared with the original.Yes, the original is better. But this one is actually not THAT far behind it in terms of entertainment value and the visuals are excellent, and often superior to what we get with No.1.This one is darker and does show some more 'blood' so its definitely a film less suitable for those under about 10 although it really depends on your kids tolerance really, as it's not that bad and is only mildly a bit more graphic than Jurassic Park IMO.The film for me starts to go a bit silly at the climax with the t-rex now unleashed on the mainland but that's really only a mild gripe from me. Overall its an entertaining sequel to Jurassic Park. Better than Jurassic Park 3 even though that film is also still a worthwhile watch.

Bit of a leap from JP1 to JP2
This review is written in light of having rented this to watch with my six-year-old, who had been entertained by the first film (what's not to like?) but found this more harrowing and it has patently stuck with him.First, the violence is more graphic: in JP1, people perish - but this film insists on illustrating this fact with the use of blood. (Someone chomped by a dinosaur behind a waterfall sends the cascade bright red; another character attacked by a swarm of bitey little reptiles stains a stream red.) Thus far, all a bit too "slasher" for my parental taste.Perhaps the biggest issue for me comes half-way through the movie when one of the group of "good" characters, working hard to rescue the others from a perilous dangling over a cliff, is snatched up from his car by two T.Rex and ripped in half. It is a graphic but not gory despatch...but it is unexpected, not least because he is a blameless character seeking to assist other people in jeopardy. (This is the sort of jolt that broke the cinematic mould when Hitchcock had Janet Leigh's character done for at the back end of the first reel of "Psycho".)Admittedly, it is a PG certificate, so I have learned that I should stick to my unwritten rule of just renting U movies for him. Beyond that, mind, the movie is just somewhat dreary, an unengaging re-tread of the excellent original - and they kept stretching the franchise to no good purpose thereafter!
