The Charging Dock is pricey, for what you see, but it does come with some value attached. One, it provides a VERY sturdy pedestal for your Pixel Tablet, weighted well, and strong magnet mounting gives the tablet a nice viewing angle. First time your Pixel is attached to the Charging Dock, your Pixel tablet will ask for special settings to be set, which I have found only after the Pixel is introduced to the Charging Dock. Two of these are: Home Screen setups & Screen Saver settings. The screen saver provides something on the screen when you aren't using it, I like the animated frog. If the tablet is blank (still powered on), or shows the time, or the screen saver, touching the screen will bring up your Home Screen, which can be changed to what you prefer to "quickly" see, I find, the default pretty useful; time/date, weather, timer controls, a stock market ticker, and network info, plus a customize button. Small footprint, as a base, especially with or without the tablet attached, easily makes for conversation on what is that? Every time I go to put my Pixel on it is surprising, as the Dock, nor the Tablet have ANY locating recesses, they are both smooth, I just slowly move the tablet around where "I think" it should be until it "ZAP" the magnet takes hold. The speaker sound quality isn't too bad either, it may not have four speakers like the tablet, but I've played a few movies & favorite TV shows, and it isn't shabby. Compatibility is surprising, having had a few versions of Fire Tablets, you have to ensure you get a Show Display/Charging Stand for you exact model, with the Google Pixel it just seems to work, I guess as long as you order a Google Pixel Tablet Charging Dock, it doesn't seem to matter (or maybe, the Pixel doesn't have as many versions as the FT?). Final thought, you don't need the Charging Dock, it is pricey for what you see, but it does provide features that the Pixel takes advantage of, and makes your Pixel Tablet more useful, visually displayable on a desk or counter, and provides a cordless alternative to keeping your tablet plugged in. I find, the price for it, worth what it provides.

I love this docking station. I don't use it for anything audio, but the sound of the speaker does work and it works just fine. Don't plan on blasting out music with it. I bought it mainly to have a standing station for the google pixel tablet while I use if for my astrophotography equipment. (Seestar 50). It stands up nicely and I watch the camera do it's thing. Then I can grab it, go make adjustments, or even process my pictures after it's done stacking. The docking station allows for very nice 'photo frame' feature in Hub mode and I love the stock pictures it comes with.

Works well. Very handy. With a portable keyboard and a mouse there is the convenience and app availablity of a tablet and the simplicity of a laptop plus a smart display/charger.
