Review: Both came alive - Pleased with purchace - When I first received these plants, I was questioning whether they were even alive. They were wrapped in bubble wrap with a bare bulb. No leaves, nothing. It requires a bit of patience but I did some reading up on this plant and did the following. 1) I let them sit out in a semi lit area for a couple of days after I unwrapped them from the bubble wrap. 2) I'd read that they needed quick draining soil. For all of my house plants, most of which are hoyas, I use a base of FoxFarm Ocean Forest Organic Potting soil, however, depending on the plant I mix other things in that are specific to whatever plant. For planting these desert roses I mixed in the Fox Farm, and put in approximately 1/3 of the mix with perlite. Also, I added a small amount of black sand and a small amount of aquarium activated charcoal. I'd read that they need fast draining mix as they don't like sitting in water drenched soil. 3) After potting them up, I didn't water them for a few days to let them acclimate. Also, gradually moved them towards the brighter light by the window. In their permanent place, they now sit in a window that gets bright sunlight basically from morning till late afternoon. 4) After letting them sit in the dry mix for about 4 days, I watered them with Maxsea 722250 Plant Food. Please note, I use Maxsea on all of my houseplants (tropicals, hoyas, mostly, but some cactus type plants, as well) with wonderful results. However, I do NOT follow the directions on the container for mixing. On the container it directs people, that feed houseplants every watering, to use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. I've learned over trial and error, with all fertilizers, this is too strong for my plants and cut it in half. I use every watering, 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. I also soak my plants in the fertilized water for about 20 minutes. All of my plants require quick draining soil, so they're only saturated for about 20 minutes, and then I let them drain. I must say, after a couple of weeks of waiting to see some signs of life, I was starting to wonder if I'd just planted some duds. I'm trying to remember but I don't think I even saw the start of sprigs coming out of the bulb until 3 or so weeks after the planting. It's now the last day of May and I'd received these on April 6, so my pictures probably reflect the growth I've seen in the last 4 weeks after I first saw the sprigs start to develop on the bulbs. My suggestion would be to be really patient with waiting for the first signs of life. I'm really looking forward to seeing flowers on these plants. I'm pleased with this purchase.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you grow this indoors**
A: Better late than never. Mine is strictly indoors and has been growing beautifully since the day I got it about 8 months ago. The only light it gets is from a small skylight. It is effortless to take care of.

**Q: I need to know when it will have flowers ?**
A: I have one and I give it miracle grow every April and by mid June there are more blooms than you can count. I've had mine for over 7 years. I bring it indoors during the winter and it goes dormant. It will look like its dead but as long as the bulb is alive the plant is alive. In spring I move it back outdoors and all new leaves form.

**Q: What is the life span of this plant?**
A: My mom has one she got in 1999, but she is very good with plants.

**Q: I got mine last May and it has no flowers yet, do you guys know when it supposed to bloom?**
A: during droughts from my understandings make sure it isn't being over watered but i've only read about it i have got mine to bloom yet myself

Leaves are falling

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ See Desert Rose Grow, Watch It Grow
*by S***E on June 3, 2020*

I purchased one of these desert rose root stalks. I must admit I was a bit reluctant when I received it. I guess I was expecting a ready made mature plant which would look like the picture shown on the site. I was wrong however, it has been a joy to watch it sprout and grow daily from a bare stalk to green leaves coming off of each branch over the past month! I have pampered the plant just as the enclosed instructions directed, in addition to viewing an excellent YouTube video on caring for the desert rose. I purchased cactus soil from Amazon as directed, which i planted the bare stalk in. Additionally, I give it a scare amount of 1/4 part Miracle Gro and water mix for its every one and half to two weeks watering. I pour just a small amount of the water mixture to wet the top soil. And the pot does have a drain plate at the bottom of it. I am pleased and amazed at its growth rate! Ready to see its beautiful blooms soon! Updated pic: 6/26/2020 - no blooms yet but several green leaves!
