Really nice radio
The radio is really only for someone who knows about radios. Don’t get me wrong the radio is really nice, super sensitive fm reception. Great sound quality, it’s amazing for its size. But it has loads of interesting and useful settings, I don’t think you will get the best out of this radio unless you go into settings it up how you want to use it.Not good battery life warning, it says the battery is full then without any ramp down in displayed power, it displays almost empty!!!Don’t attempt to just switch on and use,Read manual first, or not much will happen.I think that the default settings could do with tweaking, depending on where it’s being sold.Personally I am really enjoying using it.

Excellent value for money.
Great little DX radio. Very sensitive with loads of features.Sound quality is very good considering the size.A joy to use outdoors.Even better indoors with a decent shortwave aerial.

Transistor Radio that does it all!
Great value radio, Its small but loud enough for where it lives(in the loo) Its very sensitive, picks up stations my big radio can't and holds a charge well. If I was going camping its the radio I would take, as its the lightest radio I own, yet captures stations I've never heard before. Definitely One of My better buys!

Big radio in a tiny body!
This Radio was highly recommended to me by "Fred in the shed" on Youtube!First impression: it is very well made, feels & looks a bit like the Sony mini radios of the 80's and 90's, (Icfw 55/100) compact, massive, solid and nothing looks or feels cheap! Quite the opposite in fact! All in all a really nice set. FM is a treat, I can suddenly hear stations I never heard before! MW & LW is not of much importance here. But SW is again excellent, right up there with my big SW-receivers which are of a high quality - incredible! You will need to work with the manual, don't underestimate this radio! Not so great: no battery, but you can get these easily. One detail I am not all to happy with: I had to pay €22.- in customs charges. I ordered this radio on the amazon uk website thinking, I would get this radio through the UK ( like most of the things for Ireland) and thanks to the customs agreement UK/Europe ( For goods up to €150 no customs charges occur) would not be confronted with customs charges. I still think the radio is well worth it , no question. But the fact that customs charges will apply need to be highlighted on the Website. Otherwise all in all: an exceptional product and one hell of a Christmas present! Thanks Fred!

Excellent Radio
An excellent radio in terms of sensitivity, selectivity and clarity. To get the best results you do need to study the manual carefully and remember the various settings. Overall the DX-286 out performs most other world band portable radios and offers amazing value for money.

Excellent radio, highly recommended
I've only had this a few days and I'm comparing it directly to the Tecsun PL-330 which I've had for a few years now.The Qodosen lack of SSB aside which IMHO is awkward on this Tecsun due to tiny recessed buttons for 'step' and more is for me at least far superior on LW, MW and even SW. Pretty much the same where I live on FM although perhaps on headphones FM sounds slightly better on the Tecsun. As for the speaker Qodosen is far superior as is the action of the buttons on the radio. Operating ease wise is a matter of preference although I'm getting to prefer the Qodosen.Build quality is no contest with the thin and creaky plastic of the Tecsun together with its lack of a kickstand being vastly inferior. If you really need SSB go for the Tecsun otherwise 100% the Qodosen seems the far superior radio to me at least. LW reception is incredibly good for such a small radio and virually no existant on the Tecsun.

Qodosen DX-286 Multi-Band Radio
The radio was mailed in a moulded, padded plastic case with a snap seal plastic lid, which provided excellent protection, during transport. Very good sound quality from such a small radio. Has a lot settings to improve reception. Initially very impressed with radio performance.

Super sensitivity
This radio has a vastly improved sensitivity over any other radio that I have tested. I tested it with a passive Youloop and an active MLA-30+. The passive loop works best overall with the lowest noise. It took me a little time to determine that the supplied aerial lead is of inferior quality and needs replacement (see my image). I have removed the telescopic aerial completely since it is a noise and interference magnet when the external aerial is being used.

This is a must buy to add to your collection.
It started for me with the SR-286 from Ali Express. Qodosen seemed like a start up. No one heard of them. The radio became a highly praised curiosity, and was shipped in bubble wrap with no manual or battery. It does have engineering chops from Tecsun and the engineers did a great, no, a fantastic job with the original SR-286.I was impressed as were other radio geeks. It become an overnight sensation with its excellent sensitivity and selectivity, multiple bandwith selections. They sold a LOT of them and they became quite popular. It DX's quite well. It will pick things up that other radios struggle with.Qodosen grew up quickly and now packages the DX-286 up with a professional looking presentation box and a little hard case. My only disappointment was the cheesy velvet bag instead of the nice canvas-like Velcro soft case from the original. Not deducting for that. And no battery? Still? That's OK.Now called the DX-286 with the same internals, but two firmware tweaked keyboard combos to simplify turning off/on the internal MW antenna and on shortwave to disable/enable the internal RF amplifier. I see no other differences. The price drop is also quite welcome. The original SR version sold for $110 - $120.Tip - download the PDF version of the manual, there's a lot going on and the included manual isn't as comprehensive. To address others who say this other radio does this thing, and that other radio does that thing. That's true but all radios are different, that's why there are so many choices. If I want to listen to the ham bands with SSB, I'll use my Tecsun, Sangean, XHDATA, 1960's Zenith, etc... All great radios. Air band is a joke on all of these unless you buy a dedicated air band scanner, they are all too way slow and unusable. For a general coverage radio that literally kicks you-kow-what and fits in your shirt pocket, this really is a no brainer, especially at this price point. It also has fairy impressive audio for such a small form factor and shirt pocket size. Much better audio than an XHDATA D-808.Buy a 3000 mAh battery and you'll get a lot of listening time between charges.(I do not recommend buying any Lithium Ion from here. Look elsewhere, most sellers make outrageously false claims and wouldn't trust a single description or battery sold here.)

Amazing value for such an impressive wee radio
I've owned a lot of shortwave receivers and recently purchased a Tecsun PL-680 to replace my very old (and now dead) Sony ICF-SW55. This DX-286 was purchased after watching many rave reviews about its performance on AM and FM, and decent performance on shortwave. On opening the box I was impressed by the packaging, including a nice rigid plastic case, and the comprehensive English instruction manual. Also by the appearance and size of the radio. It's so little but not too tiny for human hands. A bonus is that it comes with the required 18650 rechargeable battery. While it was charging I installed one that I had on hand for torches. At first switch-on I loved the display. Sure, it uses a very "digital" font for text, but many radios don't have text at all. It took a minute or two to figure out the main buttons but reading the manual (or watching a YouTube video) is mandatory. I rarely listen to AM and FM radio stations, except to see what I can pick up. The DX-286 lives up to the hype about its FM sensitivity, even without the telescopic whip extended. AM sensitivity also exceeds my other radios although there's not a lot of AM in New Zealand. RDS on FM is very handy. I like how the radio enables stereo sound only when stereo headphones are plugged-in.Shortwave sensitivity is similar to the Tecsun PL-680, although the bands stop at 27MHz. It doesn't have SSB but, for the price, you can't have everything. While sensitivity is good, it was quickly apparent that strong signals will appear outside their actual frequency. This could well be a problem in countries where there are a lot of strong shortwave stations. It is however possible (but inconvenient) to combat this by adjusting settings.Sound quality from the speaker is much better than expected. It's not tiny and has bass.Even if you have other radios this one is worth buying. The Amazon price I paid was the lowest legitimate price I've found, and just a few days after receiving it I see that Amazon AU has it on sale at $20 cheaper! However I'd consider anything less than $NZ150 is a decent price. I mention "legitimate" prices because there are online stores (including within large web-stores) selling these radios at slightly lower prices. At least some of these are scams. Tracking with say the radio has been delivered to another location, but it's doubtful a radio has been sent. You'll likely get a refund, but I chose Amazon AU for this purchase because it is reliable.Buy this radio and I very much doubt you'll be disappointed.
