This is the tool you want for siping and regrooving!
Awesome tool. We'll crafted in the USA. Worth every cent if you need to regroove or sipe tires.I used this to make a set of Goodyear RV tires (245/70r19.5) highway tires into an all terrain tire for an f450. It's a substantial amount of work to sipe and regroove a set of six tires (took about 30 minutes per tire) but saved me from spending an absurd $450 each on Michelin mud and snow tires. Siping is much faster then regrooving.I'm not sure if I'd attempt to regroove or sipe a passenger car tire where there are many tread options but it works great on medium duty tires since the tread pattern selection is so limited.Remember if you intend to do as I did and change the pattern... The rubber compound means a lot when it come to traction, regrooving and siping does not change the compound itself. Meaning, if you need a snow tire for a car... Buy a snow tire. If special purpose tires are not available in your wheel size, this is an option. The tool itself is fantastic and I certainly would not attempt this with a Chinese tool. In six tires, I only used 1 blade, it came with multiple. Caution... Gets extremely hot but surprisingly does not create much smoke or a terrible odor. Very pleased!

Works like a charm (whatever a charm is??)
Finally got a chance to use this and when you follow instructions to a "T" (totally no fun, but...), it works like magic. Takes some pressure, but letting it heat up good and hot is key, along with slow, steady, firm pushing, not trying to rip right through. Works, gets hot, REALLY hot, and cuts a lovely groove that looks factory. Also, the package said it was made in U.S.A., I looked at a map of China and couldn't find that town? Odd. No matter, quality built and works just as it says. Before, during and after pics with the groover.*6-year update: Still works just fine. Don't use it a lot, but make mudders out of AT car tires, AT's out of motorcycle road tires, etc., this thing just keeps working. Using the little break-off razor blades as a siping blade (clamped in, sharp face out) as another reviewer suggested is brilliant. You can also turn the grooving blade around (round part to top, open blades down) to sipe also.

Have no fear when considering this tool, it works great!
I admit that in my younger years, I was part of a race team in the Sports2000 class. Later in various SCCA club level, run categories. That means that this tool is nothing new to me. I have cut hundreds of race and DOT tires over the years. I was pleased to find that this new version is quite possibly, exactly the same as the one I had used so many times back in the 80's.This tire groover still feels and cuts great. Heats up in ten-ish minutes and keeps the heat up as long as you need it. The included blades are still awesome, even better that they used to be. They keep an edge seemingly forever. At least until I plow into a stone imbedded in the tire. Try to avoid that, in makes a noticeable difference in the ease of cut. Don't rush the first cut, wait till it is really hot, don't rush while cutting, and you will see wonderful clean cuts.I purchased a new Jeep Wrangler and it came with Goodyear HT tires, basically a deep tread, highway tire. This tire groover allowed me to add sipes and grooves to the tread pattern, making the tire more like an all weather tire. I realize due to the harder rubber compound, it will never be a winter tire, but I am still please with the outcome.Have no fear when considering this tool, it works great.

Great cutter!
This hot cutter works really well. It's easy to use. I used it to cut grooves into some racing tires. Worked perfectly. It gets really hot! My only gripe about its functionality is that you have to hold it upright when not in use, but the handle is not built to hold it up in that way. I think the price may be a bit high for a glorified soldering iron, but that's just me. All in all, a great product at an affordable rate.

Awesome tool that gets the job done!
I've never owned or used a tire grooving tool but I found myself needing one to regroove a set of truck tires. The tool is solidly built, heats up quickly and cuts perfect grooves in tires. It does however take a moderate amount of muscle to push it through the rubber. I'm very pleased with the tool and the results.

This is a very well made product that works awesome! Used it to groove the R4 tires on a compact tractor. The only thing I am going to change on this is the square nuts that clamp the blades to the head. They are too small and when you tighten the blade clamp screw they turn and don't fit nicely up against the shoulder on the head. It takes some muscle to push it through the rubber and works best when the tires are at or above room temperature. Also, a tiny bit of rubber residue builds up on the bottom of the head which needs to be scraped off occasionally but it tends to not build up as much if you remove it promptly. I tried siping my truck tires by flipping the grooving blade over but did not notice any increase in traction on ice and snow as I had hoped. Might work good for race tires, but grooving R4's is where it really pays off with increased snow and ice traction.Would definitely purchase again.

Works great but takes oomph !
It took a lot of muscle for this old guy to groove his tractor tires. I broke the first blade immediately. Second blade I got through the rest of the job. I believe it was my technique that broke the first one. Hoping they have good grip next winter, but they look awesome !
