It writes well on normal paper, so no need to buy special paper for it. It's a fairly light pen. You may prefer a heavier one. It comes with two small cartridges and a converter. The cartridges fit snugly, which makes them difficult to load into the pen. I haven't yet used the converter. I own many fountain pens--too many. I'm glad I bought this one.
