Beautiful, quality book.
I bought this as a gift for my son, who is an avid DnD player. I don't know much about the game myself, but this is a beautiful, quality book, and seems very detailed, with some gorgeous illustrations. My son is very knowledgeable in DnD, and I believe that there's many articles in this book to interest and delight him. Very happy with purchase. 😊

D&D through the Ages
This book, in essence a stonning visual walk through the history of D&as throughout the decades, is a must have for all fans of Dungeons & Dragons. It want help you plan your game session but reading it will greatly enhance your understanding of D&D and many of the settings available for those games to take place in. A must have companion for anyone wishing to explore the rich and vibrant history of the world favourite role play game.

Great for DnD fans
I bought this for a friend for Christmas and they love it. I had a little flick through as I was wrapping it and it looks awesome, loads of cool info.

Nicely Printed, but Disappointing content
The book is printed really nicely, and this finish looks really premium. Unfortunately, the size of the book doesn't reflect the amount of content contained inside it. The majority of the mages feature one photo page, with the other page featuring a few paragraphs of text about the images - this wouldn't be an issue if the book was about half its size as the amount of information would suit a smaller print format. I did decide on returning this book unfortunately as, while in theory, it would have made a lovely gift, it's size isn't proportionate to the actual info in the book.

Excellent - Recipient of gift was delighted
Bought for my daughter who plays DnD with her friends and she was delighted. I was informed about a lot of funny sections in the book and that it is beautifully illustrated, informative and fun.

Disappointing, skewed, view of 50 years of D&D, with errors.
You have to work quite hard to find the author credit on this book: one Craig Jelley whose previous literary output has been restricted - in so far as one can tell - to Minecraft sticker books and the like. Here he presents a perspective on the history of Dungeons & Dragons, but it is a perspective tilted heavily - and perhaps predictably - towards computer games and the most recent online iterations of what has always been a tabletop experience. The author’s knowledge of early editions of the game seems limited. He skips quickly over AD&D as though it were an unimportant development in the history of D&D - for which he irritatingly seems to need to invent the term OD&D - jumping in at 2e, but giving the game little space before directing the reader to the formats of computer consoles available in the 1990s. Similarly, 3e, 3.5e, and 4e receive perhaps a few pages of actual content each: a Whigish view of developmental history persists, viz., that everything was leading to the pinnacle of publishing glory that is 5e. Many long-term players and readers like myself would have hoped for a more balanced overview. At times this work feels rushed - there are typographical errors aplenty, and more than one incorrectly identified picture. Some pages ooze an enthusiasm that doesn’t really seem directed at the game itself; other pages could almost have been put together by AI. I was left wondering whether this was little more than a cynical cashing-in on the 50th Anniversary; certainly to describe the book as a ‘Museum’ felt misplaced. And the worst of sins? Why the oversize hardback? We all know what size D&D hardbacks should be… and a true fan writing a book to celebrate their passion would surely not have created this anomaly on my bookshelf.

Lacking Content
This book should be so much more than it is. Not a very in depth history of Dungeons and Dragons, but a history none the less, or less the less, because this book should have so much more than it does . Information is accurate, just lacking in quantity. It's a Beautifully printed book. The Oversized format is great. The Very basic information describing the game, and it's iterations , makes for a fine coffee table book.
